Reborn as Mr.CEO's Fat Wife-Chapter 877: Ex-boyfriends Are the Most Annoying Creatures
Chapter 877: Chapter 877: Ex-boyfriends Are the Most Annoying Creatures
Catherine Ford was busy preparing the script in the afternoon and didn’t see Grace Clarke at last year’s conference venue.
She asked Lewis, but even he couldn’t provide an answer. Instead, Rita Pansy who she thought had just skipped work was there, her face tense but her actions were quick. She poked Lewis, "What’s going on?"
"What else could it be? After losing so much face, to still show up, shows that the young people these days really have strong mental resilience," whispered Lewis with a sigh.
Bang!
"Instead of gossiping, you’d be better off getting some work done!" Rita Pansy, although not knowing what Catherine and Lewis were talking about, didn’t let that stop her from losing her temper, and she threw the box she was carrying onto the ground.
Seeing this, Catherine just shrugged her shoulders, observing the young girl’s stubborn and arrogant demeanor, and suddenly found her kind of cute for wearing her emotions so openly on her face.
After the afternoon rush, Catherine still hadn’t seen Grace Clarke.
In the next two days, the entire logistics department was extremely busy. After asking Carol who told her Grace had taken leave, Catherine didn’t think much of it and focused wholeheartedly on her work.
By Thursday afternoon, the company had approved Catherine’s suggestion, and had instructed the leaders of each department to pass on the notice.
On Friday, Director Hopkin personally led the logistics staff to distribute masks and material packs.
Since Rita Pansy refused to go back to Universal Law Firm and Grace Clarke had not yet returned, the task fell onto Catherine.
She and Lewis were carrying two large boxes of masks. Since they had not been in communication with the firm, and did not have Secretary Noah’s contact information, they couldn’t take the elevator directly to Universal and had to go downstairs to wait for the person in charge from the other side.
However, Catherine never expected to run into Kyle Carter and Nancy Newman first, before meeting someone from Universal.
Since their last conflict at the dance class, Catherine hadn’t seen the two for a while. As they met, she instinctively looked around, relieved not to see Foster Newman.
Although after their last encounter, Catherine’s fear of Foster had diminished significantly, this was still her workplace, and she preferred he not appear and expose her private life for all to see.
Fortunately, after scanning the area and not spotting Foster, Catherine still felt a bit uneasy and whispered to Lewis, "Let’s wait over there, it’s less in the way."
After saying that, Catherine moved to the side first, and Lewis followed up, grumbling, "Why is Universal so slow?"
"They’re probably just really busy," replied Catherine absentmindedly, then noticed Kyle and Nancy talking with the security guard. After they finished, they stood in place without any intention of leaving, her brow furrowed. Were they blocking her way?
Just then, Grace Clarke who Catherine hadn’t seen in days suddenly walked in, heading straight for Kyle and Nancy. Catherine was stunned—how did Grace know them?
A huge question mark popped up in Catherine’s mind, and before she could figure out what was happening, Lewis was already heading outside quickly. Catherine panicked, "Lewis..."
But it was already too late.
Lewis’s movements drew the attention of the three people at the door. They all looked towards him and also saw Catherine trying to stop him.
The atmosphere at the scene froze for a moment.
It was just too bad that Lewis, this ironclad straight man, was completely oblivious to the weird atmosphere. He approached Grace Clarke, "Grace, no one’s seen you at the office for two days, we couldn’t even reach you. Everyone’s been really worried, and about the masks..."
"Catherine Ford!" Lewis’s words were suddenly interrupted by Kyle Carter’s voice.
Lewis looked over in surprise and saw the fairly handsome man who had just been standing at the entrance, "You know Catherine?"
Hearing Lewis call Catherine Ford so affectionately, Kyle Carter looked him up and down with a scrutinizing gaze, then sneered, "Is this your new man?"
He had thought it was strange last time that such a refined man as Lawyer Jones would fall for Catherine Ford, whom he considered second-hand goods.
Lewis’s expression shifted slightly, "Who are you to spout nonsense here!"
Grace Clarke also looked at Kyle Carter and Nancy Newman in surprise. They knew Catherine Ford?
Catherine’s face turned grim; she had noticed that quite a few people were looking their way.
The departments were much more relaxed with the annual event happening tomorrow, not as busy as usual. Plenty of people were now watching the commotion; Catherine didn’t want to get entangled with Kyle’s family and didn’t intend to pay them any mind. She turned to Lewis, "Let’s not bother with them. Let’s go to Universal first." After speaking, she remembered Grace Clarke was there, "Grace, go back to the office later. I have something to discuss with you."
Grace Clarke’s feelings towards Catherine were complicated. She had a sour spot for her, yet she relied on impersonating her identity to purchase the masks. She reluctantly hummed a reply and looked toward Kyle and his wife, "Where’s the rest?"
"They’re in the car; this is just a sample." Although Nancy Newman had not expected to run into Catherine Ford here, and was even less expecting for Catherine to seem like she was doing better after leaving Foster Newman, she couldn’t help but notice that Catherine seemed much prettier than before. This might just be her imagination, but coupled with Kyle’s obviously jealous questioning, it made her feel very uncomfortable. However, compared to Kyle’s loss of control, she was much more rational.
Because compared to dealing with Catherine, she was more concerned about the task that Kyle’s cousin had entrusted to them.
Upon hearing this, Grace Clarke immediately opened the box and looked inside, only to find it exquisitely beautiful, and her face lit up with joy, "Where’s the rest?"
"It’s in the car outside. We would like Miss Clarke to take a look," Nancy Newman said earnestly, her eyes showing a hint of uneasiness and calculation.
When Catherine Ford heard the two conversing, she furrowed her brows slightly, "Grace, what did you buy from them?"
In Catherine’s opinion, Kyle and Nancy Newman were of questionable character and not the type of people to cooperate with. Moreover, looking at the box in Nancy’s arms, she had some suspicions and wanted to stop Grace Clarke.
The company had a budget for the annual event expenses, and since they couldn’t return last time’s masks and still needed to use them, ordering another batch would cause an overspend, and not by a small amount.
Grace Clarke was just about to reply when Nancy Newman, worrying that Catherine would spoil her plan, shot her a cold look, "It’s certainly a fine item, but what does it have to do with you?"
Catherine was about to say it did indeed concern her, but before she could speak, Grace Clarke’s phone rang. She quickly made a shushing gesture towards Catherine and explained softly, "It’s a call from Director Hopkin."
Catherine had no choice but to swallow her retort aimed at Nancy, just as the latter raised her eyebrows provocatively at her. Meanwhile, Kyle had a sulky look, as if she owed them a million dollars.
Lewis couldn’t help but ask in a low voice, "Catherine, who are they?" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
Catherine didn’t want to speak on behalf of Kyle and his wife, but Lewis had just taken a verbal hit because of her, and it would be odd not to explain. She could only softly say, "Ex-boyfriend."
Lewis instantly understood, and his view of them soured. Although he was a man, he knew how annoying the creature that is an ex-boyfriend can be. He decided not to give them another look, turning to Grace Clarke instead. But to his dismay, he found Grace hanging up the phone, her face pale with rage as she yelled at Catherine, "The company has found a solution for the masks issue, why didn’t you tell me?"
Catherine was stunned by the outburst and looked at Grace momentarily forgetting how to respond.
