Reborn ghost seeing lady is pampered by her ex husband-Chapter 584: Narrowly missing reincarnation.
One of the girls smirked dismissively, giving Phoebe an eye roll. "Lady, are you not listening at all? This has been happening for a few years now, selections are made years before death even occurs.
We were raised on the grounds of the Montgomery manor since our teenage years, and we have watched the families of the lucky virgin maidens that got to be buried with Montgomery's get rewarded.
Their families are much happier now with food, shelter, free education and money that is deposited into their accounts regularly. So yeah, we know exactly what we signed up for. Besides we too shall reincarnate in glory with our master's and live like queens, so our death now is a small price to pay." She clarified meticulously in an angry voice that faded into a dream like state.
"You sound insane, wake up." Maureen slapped the woman on the head.
The slap was surprising to everyone else except for Rekha. Senior Maureen had a habit of beating up people she considered morons.
"Definitely insane." Phoebe concurred with Maureen.
"Most human beings are really stupid mother, greedy and easy to fool. I highly doubt that there will be a reincarnation of any kind. First because Ravana and her demons are not winning the war and secondly because this witch whoever she or he is, could be consuming their souls for a purpose I am not certain of yet. But even that witch does not have such power to allow them to reincarnate together with their masters. It is impossible!" Star explained to Phoebe.
Phoebe received a phone call, and she excused herself first. She needed to answer Claire's call; it was the fourth one.
"Claire I will come and see you as soon as possible or...."
"Pheebs, I just got another body like the ones I sent you. This is the sixth case I have seen in three years. I searched old case files and found four more, spread out over the years. Some go back as far as eighty years ago." There was enthusiasm in Claire's voice.
"All men whose hearts have been scorched." Phoebe whispered into the phone.
"Yup! I don't know what I am looking at. How is a heart burned from inside the body without leaving a mark on the victim."
"Sorcery I suppose." Phoebe answered. "My guess is that all those men broke the hearts of the wrong women or woman. Look, I am going forward this to my aunt and she is going to send someone to take a look at the bodies..."
"Body. The rest have been buried or cremated." Claire informed her.
"Then I hope you protect the one you have because it is the only lead, we have. In case this involves sorcery, stay a thousand miles away Claire."
"No will do." Shark's voice came from the background. "A serial killer setting men's hearts on fire, sensational!! I have not closed a major case in a while Pheebs, you have got to give me this one."
She saw David pointing at the restless women, or Obed's unwanted brides who were getting restless. "Okay I have to run; we can meet at the cafe later."
Phoebe let out a long huff and returned to the rest of the group. Maureen was still berating the women, calling them every word in the dictionary that was a synonym for stupid.
Sweeping in like a grinch on the night before Christmas, she said, "I hate to be the bearer of terrible news my dear ladies but once that witch swallows your souls, there will be nothing like reincarnation for you. Your souls will be erased, and you will cease to exit. You were manipulated by the Montgomery's. Whoever pulled into this lied to you. The Montgomery's have knowledge on the supernatural, so I am sure that they know the truth." She broke the news hard--coldly.
"Ha-ha-ha, wow this must be disappointing for you ladies, now do you still want to die with your master." Rekha asked, her voice was coated with amusement yet sarcastic.
The girls traded gazes, then shifted their eyes to Phoebe. "You are bluffing! This is a trick to get us to change our minds. We were told to be on the lookout for people like you, demons that would try to confuse us. Our destiny is a secret known only to a few in the inner circle. How would you know such a thing?" The older one asked.
Phoebe's gaze bore into hers. "You can choose to believe me or not that is your business. All I know is that whatever deal you had with the Montgomery family has expired, go back to your homes. Find jobs like normal people, for crying out loud! you are both under twenty-three. How can you give up on life so fast?" She told them, firmly.
"No-no, they can't go back to their families right now. That crazy old woman Morgan might send someone to harm them to keep the secret. They could even be blamed for conspiring to steal Obed's body and arrested or something." Rekha stated her opinion.
David snapped his finger. "Have someone take them to the orphanage, they will be safe there. Keep them away from the children for now, put them with the caretakers." He ordered Sean.
Maureen stretched a hand in the direction of the women with a question. "What really was your role after you died? What did Shem and Morgan tell you?"
"W-we were supposed to escort the master to his final destination, that is all we were told." One of the women said. "Where our souls really not going to reincarnate?"
Phoebe nodded.
The women's hands met in a tight clasp. They were finally understanding their predicament. They had been sold hot air; there was no happily ever after waiting in another world.
Sucking in sharp breath, Obed came to a realization at how close he had come to miss reincarnation. "Shit! Why would my family do this? Perhaps grandma does not know! I have to save the others by warning them about this." His eyes danced within the sockets, a mixture of confusion and fear enveloping them.
"Apart from this did you notice any other strange things or when they started?" Phoebe asked. "Have you heard of a demon called Azur?"
Nodding, Obed maintained eyes contact with her. "Yes of course, I am a guardian, so I am aware of who Ravana's general is. He is mentioned in many of the books and stories told about the supernatural war." He replied swiftly.
"And you have not heard of his name in the corridors of your house? Maybe like twenty years ago after Bernard died? You were young but you could have seen or heard something. Think Obed." Maureen probed.
Obed's expression darkened, eyes flickering with some old terror. "I do not know....I am not sure because I remember nothing from that time, and I am afraid to remember." A shadow crossed his face like he was chased by grim thought.
