Chapter 109 -109: Feed Him

Ding.

The elevator doors opened, revealing a bright corridor. Standing atop, Lin Zhiyi could look through the glass walls on either side, offering a high vantage view of the building’s interior.

At the end of the corridor was a double solid wood door, simple but imposing.

Assistant Chen carefully pushed open the door, revealing to Lin Zhiyi a two-story, 200-square-meter office.

A whole row of glass walls allowed an almost complete view of the surrounding buildings.

A spiraling staircase led up to what must be Gong Chen’s private area.

Lin Zhiyi looked at the tiles bathed in sunlight, still somewhat overwhelmed.

This was, in fact, her first encounter with Gong Chen’s work realm.

Beside her, Gong Shiyan, who was at a small conference table, immediately stood up upon hearing the noise.

“Zhiyi, you’re here.”

Lin Zhiyi snapped back to reality and handed over the insulated bag, “Uncle, I brought you some food.”

“Always the thoughtful daughter.”

Gong Shiyan’s face lit up with a smile as he took the insulated bag from her.

Just as he was about to sit down, he noticed Lin Zhiyi was still holding something else.

“What’s that?”

“These are clothes for Little Uncle. He thought I was dressed too lightly yesterday, so he lent me his to wear. Since I was coming to bring you food, I brought these along too,”

Lin Zhiyi said, looking around, but she did not see Gong Chen.

Gong Shiyan noticed her searching eyes and said, “Lao San is upstairs getting an IV.”

Here?

Working so hard?

Lin Zhiyi paused, feeling a mix of complex emotions.

But reason told her she mustn’t waver.

She placed the clothing bag on the sofa, casually walking over to Gong Chen’s desk as if admiring the view.

The desk was tidy, with neatly arranged files labeled on the side.

She searched twice, but couldn’t find the project President Yu had mentioned.

She even thoroughly searched the bookshelf.

It had to be here in Gong Chen’s possession.

Given the upcoming contract signing and his cautious character, he would definitely be keeping a close watch.

Could it be…

Lin Zhiyi looked upstairs.

By then, Gong Shiyan had finished his meal and was cleaning up. He saw something else in the insulated bag. “Zhiyi, did you come to see Lao San?”

Lin Zhiyi immediately retorted, “No!”

Gong Shiyan picked up the medicine bag. “Then what’s this?”

Silence, as Chen Jin entered carrying hot porridge and did a double-take upon seeing Lin Zhiyi.

Gong Shiyan put the medicine bag and the porridge in Lin Zhiyi’s hands, “Go ahead.”

Seeing the steaming porridge, Lin Zhiyi decided to bravely head upstairs to see if she could find the project contract.

“Alright.”

Upstairs, standing at the door of the room, Lin Zhiyi’s palms were sweaty.

As she hesitated, a hoarse voice came from inside.

“Come in… Lin Zhiyi.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Zhiyi nearly dropped the tray.

She felt invisible in front of Gong Chen; could she really match him?

But she wouldn’t admit defeat, even if it ended in failure, she had to try.

Lin Zhiyi took a deep breath and pushed open the door.

The room was simply decorated, primarily in gray.

In front of the floor-to-ceiling window, white sheer curtains blocked the harshest light, casting a soft layer that landed perfectly on Gong Chen.

Despite one arm still attached to an IV drip, there was an indescribable sense of lazy luxury in his bearing; even his usually cold and handsome face seemed a bit softer.

She couldn’t look away.

Gong Chen lifted his eyes to Lin Zhiyi, who realized she had been staring at him for a long time and belatedly shifted her gaze to the bedside.

“I brought Uncle some food, and thought I’d bring your clothes too since Assistant Chen brought food. I offered to help.”

“Did I ask you? Rushing to explain?” Gong Chen spoke in a low voice.

Lin Zhiyi bit her lip and forcefully sat down the tray.

Gong Chen glanced at the tray and noticed a medicine bag from City Express Delivery.

“You didn’t come to see Gong Yan but brought medicine to me?”

“No.”

Lin Zhiyi reached out to grab it, but Gong Chen was quicker.

“I’m hungry,” Gong Chen glanced at the porridge.

Lin Zhiyi handed it to him, “Here.”

Gong Chen raised his arm that was getting an IV.

Lin Zhiyi pointed to the spoon beside the bowl, “You can use either hand.”

“I don’t have the strength.”

Gong Chen watched Lin Zhiyi, not believing she didn’t understand.

Lin Zhiyi got the message, but it was intentional.

She leaned close to Gong Chen and whispered, “Little Uncle, aren’t you just wanting me to feed you? If you want that, just say it. I don’t mind.”

Gong Chen narrowed his eyes dangerously.

Lin Zhiyi knew he wouldn’t admit it, so she stood up, intending to look around.

But before she could straighten, the man in front of her pulled her down, forcing her to sit by the bed.

“Feed me.”

His domineering presence made Lin Zhiyi lose her composure, her eyes wide.

He slightly gathered his expression, capturing all her reactions. Although still expressionless, there was a discernible warmth tinting his eyes.

“Afraid now? Don’t play games next time…”

“Who says I’m scared?”

Lin Zhiyi picked up the bowl, stirred the porridge, and then scooped up a spoonful, blew on it, and held it to Gong Chen’s lips.

Gong Chen didn’t move; under the warm light, his eyes seemed to gleam with a subtle halo, noble and surreal.

“It’s not hot,” Lin Zhiyi shook the spoon.

Then Gong Chen opened his mouth and ate.

Neither spoke after that, but his gaze made Lin Zhiyi feel odd. It wasn’t as cold as before, and mixed with an unreadable expression.

Gong Chen had quite an appetite, defying the common wisdom that sick people lose their appetite.

After finishing, Lin Zhiyi put down the bowl and took the chance to look around for a possible place to keep files.

Suddenly, Gong Chen began to cough violently, and Lin Zhiyi instinctively went behind to pat his back.

Without thinking, she blurted out, “Did you make loquat leaf water? You always need to drink that to recover quickly when you cough.”

The next second, Lin Zhiyi’s wrist was seized by Gong Chen, forcefully pulling her in front of him, forcing her to look at him.

“How do you know? I never told anyone.”
