Reincarnated as an Energy with a System-Chapter 1721: Taken Over
Ning suddenly felt the pain that came with a vengeful spirit forcefully taking over his body. It felt like his mind was being torn away from two sides.
One side was him pushing away the spirit, and the other side was the spirit taking over him.
He barely managed to dodge one of the sword attacks and quickly ran out of the battle, his body turning into iron and back to flesh over and over as he couldn't control it properly.
Unlike Overtakers, he did not have the power of Spectral Battle, a power he could use to fight a spirit trying to take over someone.
Regular humans, let alone Spirit Detectives were strong enough to mostly fight against regular spirits on their own. But in the case of a vengeful spirit, the situation changed.
The more powerful they were, the harder it was. And this Earl was as hard as they came.
Ning fell to the ground, his spear tossed elsewhere as he rolled around, his mind growing with pain. He didn't even know if the ringing in his ear was from the system or just pain in general.
He rolled around, trying his best to hold onto his sanity. He heard the crazy laughter of the Earl in his mind, spewing out things that he could not hear.
"Damn you! Get out of my body!" Ning shouted out loud. He knew there had to be something he could do right now, even if not himself, maybe someone else. But the pain overtook every ability he had for thought, making nothing be of sense to him.
All he did now was roll on the ground, screaming, unable to do anything else.

Shara made her way to the woman atop the carriage. She had made her way directly toward her, not hiding in the slightest. She showed no fear as she arrived before the woman, Altunia, Commander of the 7th Battalion of the Emperor's army.
The woman gave a small smile, lowering her bow to look at her. "Little Reaper, are you ready to get captured and taken to be judged, now?" she asked.
"Do you think you can take me?" Shara asked, holding her spear tightly next to her. She wasn't here to get taken away. She was here to fight.
Altunia raised an eyebrow. "Whatever do you mean?" she asked. "Do you think you can leave like you did last time? Don't worry. I have brought an Overtaker along with me today and his spirit can find you no matter where you run off to."
"Does it look like I'm running?" Shara asked, staring directly into the woman's eyes.
Altunia frowned at that moment. "If you're not here to give yourself in, and you're not running away, then what are you doing?" she asked.
"I'm here to fight you and release those soldiers from whatever ability you have used to keep them running around this long."
The woman smiled slightly. "Fight me? You?" she asked. "You're what, 16? 17? When I was the same age as you, I was training with a master swordsman. Learning from the best of the best. What have you done?"
Shara looked at her spear for a moment and turned to look back at Altunia. "I've learned from the best as well," she said. "I will allow you to give up and leave us if that is your wish to do so. If not, I ask that you fight me right now."
Altunia was stunned by the young girl's response.
"You really want to fight me," she said softly.
"That is only honorable," Shara said. "But I can kill you with your back turned to me if that is your wish."
Altunia couldn't help but smile at that response. She walked up to the horse and placed her intricate blue bow atop it before pulling out a sword from the luggage the horse was carrying.
The sword looked simple thankfully, nothing intricate like that bow. Shara hoped this meant the sword was not a Spirit Artifact.
"We are supposed to take you back to be judged properly to see if you are a reaper or not," Altunia said. "But since it is more or less confirmed by now, in his Emperor's name, I shall deliver the judgment upon you."
"Immediate Execution."
She raised the sword and swung at Shara.
Shara could tell at a moment's glance that Altunia was not lying at all. She had been training from some of the best. It was apparent in her stance and her swing.
Compared to the leader she fought just earlier, she had so much more control. And yet, none of it mattered when it couldn't hit her.
The sword passed right through Shara, as though it was passing through an illusion. Shara stabbed forward, hitting the side of the woman's chest.
Her armor clanged when she hit her, but it did not wound her at all. Her spear was too weak to wound her properly and she herself was only a weak girl.
'I can't fight her with power alone,' Shara thought. 'I need to find the proper angle of attack.'
Shara had the power to turn only part of her body intangible, but that required a certain amount of focus from her. During a high-intensity task like an actual battle, she could not bring that amount of focus to turn only part of her body intangible.
As such, it either had to be all intangible or none of it. freēwēbnovel.com
She pulled back her spear, moving away from the woman to create some distance.
Altunia was stunned at the moment, looking down at her chest where the spear had struck. Had she not had armor at that point, she would have been stabbed through her breast, and maybe into her heart.
That had been so very dangerous just now.
'Thank the Emperor her body is frail and there is no power in her stabs,' Altunia thought. 'Still, I will have to be careful. Both in my attacks and her ability to completely make my attacks worthless.'
