Scarlet Descent-Chapter 44 - The White Ghost Knights
"Ah..."
Captain Ouyang looked at Wei Wei, who was gripping his gun tightly, and then gazed at his still somewhat youthful face.
He sighed deeply without saying anything else, grasped the motorcycle handles with both hands, and used his legs to push the damaged bike backward, away from the wall. Wei Wei helped by pulling it, and the bike’s front was realigned towards the hospital.
"It’s very dangerous here, Little Wei," he said in a low voice, looking at the surprisingly quiet hospital.
Upon reaching the hospital entrance, all twisted shadows and air distortions vanished, and even the demonic murmurs that filled the district were silenced. Only the quiet streetlights and neatly parked vehicles were visible, with the "Emergency" sign flashing a red glow, giving off an eerie feeling.
The entire district was affected by the demon power field, twisted and chaotic.
The quietness here contrasted sharply with the chaos outside, making it even more unsettling.
"It’s precisely because it’s dangerous that we’re here," Wei Wei replied with a smile, turning to Captain Ouyang.
"The demon power field is spreading outside. Even Uncle Gun and Little Lin, with their exceptional abilities, can only slow it down, not eliminate it. We must deal with the source inside."
Captain Ouyang looked at Wei Wei intently and asked: "What state are you in?"
"Second."
The captain didn’t ask about the system, so Wei Wei answered without hesitation.
"Not enough, but since you’re here..."

Captain Ouyang pondered for a moment, then turned to Wei Wei:
"Inside or outside?"
Wei Wei thought for a moment, took a step back, and said: "You choose first, leader."
"This is truly polite..." Captain Ouyang looked at Wei Wei’s fearless expression, feeling both surprised and that this was reasonable.
He turned to look inside the hospital, sensing that the entire area was becoming increasingly quiet.
It seemed that no sound could penetrate this area; even if you entered, it would be swallowed up. Under the lights, no danger was visible, but in the shadows, you could hear the faint sound of gun mechanisms and eerie laughter.
This unsettling intuition made one suspect that an army was waiting inside.
This was a trap, an obvious one, set to lure people in.
Inside the hospital building, a power was rising in a frenzy, like a vortex absorbing nutrients and expanding at an unreasonable speed.
…
…
"As the captain, I should choose inside," Captain Ouyang said, taking a deep breath and turning to Wei Wei. "But I met some acquaintances outside."
"They should be more difficult to handle."
"..."
Wei Wei nodded immediately: "Then you deal with them, Captain. I’ll go inside."
He began to retreat, disappearing into the shadows outside the reach of the light.
"This is really considerate..." Captain Ouyang couldn’t help but glance in the direction Wei Wei had disappeared.
Though he knew this teammate had issues and wasn’t simple, he felt genuinely comfortable with such a respectful and aware team member.
"I’ll have to talk to Little Wei later..."
Captain Ouyang muttered to himself, then looked up at the empty hospital area.
He pulled out a cigar from his pocket, also borrowed from an old friend known for his refined lifestyle, and a small, exquisite box. He opened the box, used the professional cigar cutter to trim the cigar tip, and lit it with a small cigar lighter.
As he exhaled the dense smoke into the hospital area, it suddenly encountered an invisible barrier.
The smoke was instantly tangled into chaotic masses, even forming a demonic face that growled at Captain Ouyang.
He narrowed his eyes and spoke towards the empty hospital area: "You dare to cause such a commotion in the city? Have you forgotten I’m still here?"
"..."
"Hahahaha..."
A woman’s voice echoed through the silent hospital area: "Of course, we know you’re here.
The White Ghost Knights, once roaming the wilderness, now hide in this small city on the edge... But it seems you’ve forgotten your responsibilities..."
"..."
"Responsibilities..." Captain Ouyang’s face darkened, his expression terrifying: "Who would forget their responsibilities?"
The next moment, he kicked the damaged motorcycle away.
The bike transformed into a flexible, independent body, and with the handbrake released, it sped off, jumping over the hospital wall in an impossible leap.
Captain Ouyang’s windbreaker spread out, making him look like he was wrapped in a large cloak.
"I’m just here to settle your accounts!"
"..."
Endless wails rose, and the hospital area rippled like a unified space.
As Captain Ouyang charged in, a layer of eerie power emerged around him, creating a space that clashed and intertwined with the hospital’s.
"Clack clack clack..."
From the shadows beneath the hospital, dark gun barrels emerged, as if from another dimension.
Seven burly men, armed and covered in bullets, stood in the darkness.
In the lobby, a priest in a black cassock held a delicate religious icon, his eyes shining brightly.
At the corners, figures in black and white nun combat uniforms appeared.
Their pupils were a ghastly white, and each carried a terrifying rocket launcher.
Captain Ouyang, suspended in mid‑air, became a target.
But he burst into laughter, releasing the motorcycle handles and drawing a handgun and a submachine gun.
He stretched out his arms, pointing them to either side.
"Hahaha..."
"You didn’t inquire before entering the city? Back in the wilderness, who didn’t call me ‘Dad’ when they saw me?"
"..."
The air suddenly vibrated violently, as if compressed, and expanded wildly.
A powerful oppressive force descended from mid‑air, pressing down.
...
...
"What’s that?" Ye Feifei, sitting in Lucky’s sports car with a stream of little girls with pumpkin lanterns behind her, suddenly felt a dense and heavy air pressure, like a massive collision.
The car shook violently, and her hair stood on end as she cried out in terror.
"It’s the captain..." Lucky’s usually calm expression showed a hint of excitement as she turned to look in a direction.
"Is the captain angry today?" she asked.
Uncle Gun’s voice came through the communicator: "He shouldn’t be. He’s just having fun..."
Lucky smiled: "Do you guys feel regretful? It’s been a while since we’ve seen the captain in action."
Little
Lin’s voice was concise: "I miss it."
...
...
"Is Captain Ouyang’s power really the third state as recorded in the data?" Wei Wei asked, surprised by the gunfire and terrifying demonic power clashing in the hospital area.
But he had been warned beforehand that these people weren’t ordinary, so he wasn’t too surprised.
After all, who writes true information in records these days? Not him, anyway.
He felt a bit curious about seeing Captain Ouyang in action, but considering the work at hand...
He suppressed his curiosity and quickly circled around to the hospital’s rear, jumping over the wall to enter.
He found it surprisingly quiet, with no signs of unknown dangers or even a single guard.
It seemed that the pressure from Captain Ouyang was so great that the others didn’t bother with the rear.
Or perhaps their ambush was always meant for the captain.
The people outside were tempting, given their numbers, but since they were the captain’s acquaintances, it was best to leave them to him.
The things inside the building were weaker compared to those outside, but their frenzied expansion piqued Wei Wei’s interest.
You can’t be too picky; make do with what you have!
...
...
He comforted himself, entering the hospital building.
Looking at the dark corridors where all the lights seemed to have lost their glow, Wei Wei concentrated his senses.
He moved cautiously, like walking on thin ice, and reached the back door.
It was locked.
Feeling relieved, he turned around, whistling as he strolled along, gun in hand.
