‘The Great Wall Frontier Guard? An official power’s name? Has he mistaken me for someone who came to support?’
Colin pondered, and only after the other’s breath had steadied did he ask:
“Who are you? What happened here?”
He didn’t directly answer the other’s question, and such an attitude, in the other’s eyes, amounted to an acknowledgment of identity.
“I am a local cleaner, Chen Hu; I was ordered to come here to deal with something, and then…”
The middle-aged man in a gray shirt, who claimed to be Chen Hu, paused, noticing the people behind Colin.
Compared to the calm-faced Colin, the haggard-looking young men were obviously ordinary people at first glance.
A cleaner? Do “orders” and “investigations” have anything to do with being a cleaner?
Another term representing a special identity?
“I rescued them along the way; it’s alright, carry on.”
Colin did not elaborate further, waving his hand to signal Chen Hu to continue.
Soon, he learned from Chen Hu that they received a commission about a civil construction in the town that unearthed a sinister underground temple. Everyone who approached the temple disappeared for unknown reasons…
Not a single one of the construction workers on-site was spared, all vanishing without a trace, whereabouts unknown.
Then, notified local health station cleaners immediately took action but quickly realized the danger at the source was beyond imagination, no longer within their ability to handle.
While evacuating the local populace, they simultaneously called for assistance from higher authorities…
By coincidence, members of “The Great Wall” seemed to be passing by and immediately came upon receiving the request.
They were confident everything would be resolved smoothly.
However, the so-called elite “Frontier Guard” squad suffered heavy losses after entering, with only a few individuals making it out. Then the town’s situation further escalated, and everyone found they could no longer escape…
No matter which direction one walked towards, one would inevitably end up back inside the town, as though trapped by a ‘Ghost-Hitting-the-Wall’ phenomenon.
“The situation is currently contained, but we’re unable to resolve it and can only wait for support.”
While speaking, the pale-faced Chen Hu looked again at the people beside Colin: “Are there any other people? Where are they now?”
A standard “Frontier Guard” team usually comprises at least thirteen members, but here there was only one person.
Other people? Where did any other people come from; it’s just me… Colin grumbled in his heart but calmly stated:
“They’re in other places; after we arrived, we split up to gather information…”
“Split up to gather information?” The middle-aged man was taken aback. Wasn’t that a big taboo for dealing with anomalies without knowing the specifics?
Weren’t protocols and regulations strictly against such disorder…?
Colin glanced at the half-set sun: “Since there are problems when it gets dark, take me now to those ‘Frontier Guards’ who escaped, so I can understand the situation better and also arrange for the survivors.”
“I can do that, but the others…”

“I’ll notify them to come over in a while.”
“Alright…”
Chen Hu said no more, aware that each “Frontier Guard” has their style; perhaps this one had some special means to dare send people away like this?
Afterward, he started leading the way, taking Colin toward a certain direction in the town.
“For safety, everyone in the area has been placed in the large factory building to the north, and members from another ‘Frontier Guard’ team are also there…”
Watching Chen Hu, who led the way a step ahead, Colin narrowed his eyes slightly; of course, he did not completely trust what the other said.
Because from the beginning to the end…
In his eyes, the thing speaking in front of him was by no means a normal human; instead, it was a strange creature wearing a human skin, with no telling what truly lay inside.
“Perhaps there was a Chen Hu, but certainly not this one before me, or perhaps he had long been parasitized by it.”
“Is this the anomaly of this place? A monster that speaks while wearing human skin?”
“It seems to have a decent level of intelligence. If it didn’t have some tricks up its sleeve, it really wouldn’t be easy to detect. But what’s it planning to do by luring me here?”
As thoughts flickered through his mind, Colin’s hand reached into his pocket, ready to use the “False Powerhouse” sticker at any moment.
If danger arose, he should be able to obtain five effective certifications immediately.
Adding the Golden Card, Bone Spur, Yukionna… Colin was confident in his own strength, enough to handle the trouble in front of him.
But if it were only this one unknown creature…
He might be able to easily settle it with just a swing of the blade, not needing any other tactics.
Of course, before that, he had to gather enough information to kill the other party.
At that moment, Chen Hu, seemingly struck by a thought, quietly asked, “Mr. Lin, would you be at liberty to disclose which aspect of the three great arts your team primarily commands?”
The three great arts? What’s that? Some sort of power system within the related departments?
Colin’s mind was filled with question marks, but his face showed no expression as he stated, “That’s not something someone of your level should be concerned with.”
From the previous conversation, he was certain that the level of a “Cleaner” should be lower than that of a “Frontier Guard.”
“I understand.”
Worried that Colin might see through his true identity, Chen Hu didn’t inquire further and continued to lead the way.
Less than ten minutes later, Colin saw the large factory building mentioned by the other party, with its grey and white stone walls, blue-painted metal, and the empty interior of the factory.
Inside, there were no people to be seen, but there was a considerable number of the same non-human scents hidden within.
Colin could generally tell through the scents that these people weren’t significantly stronger than the “Chen Hu” in front of him.
There also didn’t seem to be the distinctive smell of gunpowder in the air.
Assured of this point, Colin walked in with confidence.
As they entered, the large factory’s doors suddenly slammed shut with a bang, and a force instantly sealed off the area.
“What’s happening?”
Colin raised an eyebrow and looked at the “Chen Hu” in front of him, “Where are those other survivors you mentioned?”
“Mr. Lin.”
Chen Hu suddenly turned around, revealing a sinister smile, “It seems we are in luck, to have intercepted the backup first, fortunate to capture a ‘Frontier Guard’ who was alone.”
“Too bad you didn’t call everyone, or our gain would have been greater…”
“I believe that offering your flesh and blood to ‘Mother of the Red Moon’ will make her very pleased!”
As he spoke, from various positions inside the large factory, as many as ten to twenty people stood up all around.
At the same time, Chen Hu’s body began to contort in a weird posture, crouching on the ground, arching his butt high into the air.
Then, his buttock split open, and a blood-red tumor rapidly grew, quickly becoming a strange creature with twitching tentacles and an odd form.
It wasn’t just him; other people also grew grotesque, enormous tumors on various parts of their bodies.
