Chapter 147 -147 Tornado

After discussing, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng looked at their supplies while the remaining people split into two groups to search for each other’s bases.

An hour later, Fang Lanlan came back, reporting she had found their base camp, which was indeed filled with elderly and children, with only two young people.

Gu Pan turned to Lu Ruisheng, “Take some supplies and leave some for them too, having too much could be detrimental for them.”

Lu Ruisheng nodded and said, “Right.” He then instructed Fang Lanlan, “Go back and have our people bring back half of the supplies. Do they have a car there?”

Fang Lanlan nodded, “They have a car.”

Gu Pan continued, “Then go. Don’t let them see your face. There are children, who knows if they’ll become the stubborn, vengeful type in the future, and we end up with trouble.”

Fang Lanlan nodded in understanding and left.

As both parties had agreed on a signal with fireworks, they easily met up.

After a while, they returned, having taken back fewer supplies than expected and not many weapons, but it was still a decent haul.

They didn’t linger, dealing with the bodies, loading the supplies onto their vehicles, and hurriedly set off as darkness fell, to avoid further complications.

At dawn, they arrived at the next city, where cars were coming out, likely heading to their own bases.

Gu Pan and the team halted for a break here, a place bustling with people and thus relatively safe, since no one would set an ambush in such an area, and during the day it was even safer.

Having not slept all night and after a battle, it was now their turn to rest.

Today’s temperature was finally below 30 degrees Celsius, which felt comfortable, especially after several hot months, this temperature was truly uplifting.

They hit the road again past 3 p.m. but had no plans to travel through the night. They intended to find a place to rest by eight or nine and continue early the next morning.

Their journey was smooth, finding an abandoned factory to settle in.

The factory’s large metal door was still there, which made them feel safe inside, and the surrounding walls still had their protective wire netting.

Only after ensuring it was safe did they go in.

They were able to take stock of yesterday’s gains here, and everyone truly relaxed and rested.

The cooler temperatures meant they slept more comfortably, and Gu Pan slept till daylight.

In the morning, the temperature was a pleasant 25 degrees Celsius.

Meng Meng, wearing a little jacket, ran up to Gu Pan, “Auntie, is this what you meant by the apocalypse ending?”

Gu Pan was stunned for a moment, then patted Meng Meng’s head, “The apocalypse has not ended yet. The apocalypse seeks to test people, and only the brave will survive to the end.”

Meng Meng stated, “We are all brave people, we will surely survive to the end.”

Gu Pan nodded, “Yes, we definitely will.”

The morning sun, though not warm, was gentle. After the extreme heat, the sun seemed much more bearable.

After having breakfast, they continued on their way.

While crossing an empty plain, Gu Pan saw a horrifying scene through the rearview mirror—a tornado, large and approaching with incredible speed.

She quickly grabbed the walkie-talkie, “There’s a tornado, everyone find a way to protect yourselves immediately.”

As she spoke, the tornado had already picked up the last car. Its size and speed were unlike anything Gu Pan knew from the news, too big and too fast.

Without hesitating, she pulled Lu Ruisheng with her into the Space.

Inside the Space, Gu Pan massaged her temples, “In our previous lives, we were always in the city. We heard about tornadoes in many places but didn’t pay attention due to lack of energy, and I wonder if they’ll survive.”

Lu Ruisheng clasped Gu Pan’s hand, “Tornadoes are not like extreme heat or cold—they don’t cover everywhere. Who could have expected we’d encounter one? I hope they are all okay.”

Gu Pan looked at their car, “Most of our supplies are here, and they know our mission, so as long as we wait for them at the base, that’s enough. Once we get there, find a way to leave their information at the registration point. This way, when they arrive, they’ll be able to find us, or maybe we can post some notices outside the base.”

“There will always be a way to leave them a message, as long as they can make it there.”

“This is my first time seeing a tornado like this, much more terrifying than on TV.”

“Trees and stones, all were swept up, it was really huge.”

“When do we leave? And will we be in the tornado or back at our original position when we go out, in the air or on the ground? I don’t even know.”

Indeed, this was an unforeseen issue, so now there were elements of uncertainty.

Lu Ruisheng held Gu Pan’s hand, “Let’s open a crack and see what’s happening outside.”

Gu Pan responded, “That’s all we can do.”

She opened a small slit in the Space and found they were about three meters above the ground.

Gu Pan gripped Lu Ruisheng’s hand tightly, “Good thing we didn’t go out directly, or we could have broken our legs.”

Lu Ruisheng brought over the inflatable life cushion, “I never understood why Zhuang Jie prepared this, but now I do.”

Gu Pan remarked, “Speaking of which, Zhuang Jie’s supplies are really more complete than ours.”

After inflating the cushion, Gu Pan threw it down before they both made the jump.

Back on the ground and after re-entering the Space to confirm everything was normal, Gu Pan felt relieved.

They packed up the cushion and instead of pushing on, sat on the barren roadside.

All around them were large pits; the tornado had swept away all the roadside trees, pulling them out by their roots.

There wasn’t a single pebble on the road, even the ground seemed lower.

Gu Pan looked at the scene before her, “I never imagined that living through an apocalypse a second time, I’d experience a tornado.”

Lu Ruisheng commented, “It’s good we have the Space, otherwise…” He didn’t finish the sentence, because they had the Space, but the fate of their friends was unknown.

Both felt somber and unsure of what to say, so they just quietly observed their surroundings.

After a long while, they resumed their journey, the landscape void of any life or plant, desolate to behold.

In the evening, they came to a halt at a wide river, its bridge damaged by the tornado. The water level had dropped significantly from the extreme heat, but it wasn’t completely dry. Unsure if there were any dangers in the middle of the river and unable to float a speedboat, they decided against crossing and chose to detour. There was plenty of time; it wasn’t worth risking further mishaps just to speed up their journey. That would truly be a waste of time.

Now it was just the two of them, which made things easier. When resting, they simply entered the Space, where eating and resting were quite comfortable.

The next morning, the two continued on their way.
