Sovereign of the Ashes-Chapter 1082: Goddess of Music
Chapter 1082: Goddess of Music
By the time the situation on the battlefield spiraled further out of control, Sein had already been pulled to the rear of the demonic legion by the Succubus Queen.
The space around them was a blood-red realm that seemed to be created by the Blood Throne beneath the Bloodwar Monarch.
Even its atmosphere felt similar to Purgatory.
Sein had not expected the throne Thorstein sat upon to possess the power to warp and shift space.[1]
Of course, everyone had noticed Sein retreating from the battlefield with the Succubus Queen.
The Justice League deities had wanted to intercept them, but they simply could not.
Ysor, the God of Storms, who had already pulled back from the front lines, continued to keep an eye on Sein.
After spotting the crowd of powerful demons surrounding Sein, he could only look away in regret.
Compared to the divine relic of the Goddess of Waters, what drew most of Ysor’s attention now was the looming clash between the Bloodwar Monarch and the God of Radiance.
Ysor could tell that neither was using their full strength.
The Bloodwar Monarch had not even risen from his throne, and the God of Radiance had not gone to the trouble of unlocking the full might of his divine form.
Even with those restraints in place, this was still a valuable spectacle for Ysor, an intermediate deity.
It had been tens of thousands of years since a battle between greater deities had broken out in Faeloria.
The last time the Bloodwar Monarch had been seen fighting was over a hundred thousand years ago.
As the battle wore on, the irritation Ysor felt toward the Purgatory demons gradually gave way to something else—awe at their sheer, overwhelming power.
For all his poor reputation among the gods of Faeloria, Ysor’s pursuit of strength was genuine.
And now, getting to witness a clash between a supreme deity and a greater deity up close made up for leaving this battlefield empty-handed.
Meanwhile, as Sein made his way toward the rear of the Purgatory demon forces, his gaze remained locked on the Blood Throne beneath Thorstein.
The battle around him raged with intensity, but it failed to stir much interest.
Sein had seen plenty of fights between deity-level beings by now. But a clash on this level—between the Bloodwar Monarch and the God of Radiance—was still far beyond his understanding.
Unlike the God of Storms, Sein could not glean any insights into the use of advanced divine laws or high-level combat techniques.
In fact, he could not even follow the Bloodwar Monarch’s movements. Trying to force his understanding would only leave him frustrated.
While Sein remained largely unimpressed by the chaos unfolding around him, the Succubus Queen beside him could hardly contain her excitement.
This was her first time leaving Purgatory, and she had never really experienced a proper large-scale battle as an intermediate deity.
“What do you think of a melee like this?” she asked. “Come to think of it, this is the first time I’ve seen deities and demons fighting on this scale up close.”
“I have taken part in quite a few interplanar wars, but I did not get to witness a large-scale battle between Rank Four and higher creatures mainly because my life level was too low back then,” Sein replied.
He paused, then added, “But I have experienced several full-scale legion battles between lower-tier forces, with millions involved on both sides. To this day, I still remember the conquest of a medium-sized plane called Wild Gorilla World.”
The melee between the deities did not particularly stir him.
During the Avatar Crisis, even the gods had been suppressed to the strength of demigods. They could still tap into their Rank Five or Rank Four abilities, but only to a limited extent.
After seeing so many so-called “deities”, the novelty had worn off.
The shock value of this divine melee paled in comparison to what Sein had felt when he first joined the conquest of the Wild Gorilla World.
Of course, if every Rank Four and above creature here were to suddenly unleash their full strength—activating their divine domains, unleashing raw divine power, and clashing with divine artifacts—then Sein would definitely be paying a lot more attention.
His reply cooled the Succubus Queen’s excitement noticeably.
The calm, almost detached expression on his face only deepened her curiosity about the world beyond Faeloria.
Flipping her scarlet hair, the Succubus Queen pulled out her divine artifact—a whip—and asked, “Wasn’t your last experimental research focused on sonido elemental mysteries?”
“Do you want me to help you get the Goddess of Music’s divine relic?” she offered, casually twirling the whip in her hand.
Euphryne, the Goddess of Music, had already been targeted by several intermediate deities from the Dark Alliance and was now under siege by the Purgatory demons.
Her situation was becoming increasingly dire.
She had many admirers, but unfortunately, the Purgatory demons had little interest in music.
On top of that, her appearance did not align with the preferences of the demon race.
In contrast, the Goddess of Joy, whose circumstances were just as precarious, seemed to be faring slightly better.
Her old flame—Azael, a lesser deity among the demons—had joined this campaign under the Bloodwar Monarch’s banner.
Thanks to their past connection and Azael’s deliberate efforts to protect her, the Goddess of Joy managed to avoid being overrun by the surrounding demons.
Her previous protector, the God of Courage, was not nearly as fortunate.
Though a powerful intermediate deity, even he was beginning to falter.
The demons’ strength and ferocity were in no way inferior to his.
When the Succubus Queen entered the fray, Sein hesitated for a moment before deciding to back her up.
In his current physical condition, he could no longer sustain his Flame Demon form, let alone charge into close-quarters combat with deity-level opponents.
Instead, he fell back on the standard role of a Magus World spellcaster: long-range support.
Casting advanced spells like Penetrating Eye was out of the question right now, but he could still manage Rank One spells like Radiant Heart, along with a variety of offensive spells up to Rank Three.
As Sein began his chanting, a swarm of pyro elemental crows manifested in the air and headed straight for the Goddess of Music.
It was a standard area-of-effect spell.
Explosions rang out in rapid succession.
Amidst the sea of flames and swirling pyro-elemental energy, two things stood out: the Succubus Queen’s alluring smile and the muffled groan of pain from the Goddess of Music.
1. Author’s note: During the Avatar Crisis, Faeloria is only more closed off due to the fortified barrier in its outer regions. Spatial abilities are still usable within the inner world. Gondrath had performed short-range jumps using his Concealment Boots. Both Fenrion and Masque had also used their spatial skills in combat. ☜
