Chapter 128: What are you looking at me for?

The wolves moved like ghosts through the snow, silent, swift, and with eyes that shimmered like blue ice under moonlight. At least a dozen of them had already emerged from behind the rocks and ridges, their fur blending almost perfectly with the terrain.

But it wasn’t just their numbers that made the group tense up. These weren’t ordinary monsters. They were not the dire wolves’ counterpart of the snowy mountains. Each of these wolves was terrifyingly more powerful than the simple direwolves.

More importantly, they were more than capable of using mana and magic.

The lead wolf stepped forward, taller than a warhorse and layered in dense, crystalline fur that sparkled like diamond frost. Its breath misted out in a vapor trail, and frost bloomed wherever its paws touched the ground.

A system notification blinked across everyone’s vision, and for a second, the party froze.

Damon naturally noticed these beasts even from afar, but he had no plans to interfere. He wanted to see just how the members of this elite group handle themselves when tossed into a difficult situation.

It was also a good opportunity for him to get some ice affinity and ice resistance. Why would he let such a golden chance slip by?

The group instantly burst into action, and Damon along with them. However, he only revealed his shadow and blood abilities. The current popular theory was that he was a rogue class vampire, and he decided to go with that.

His shadow flickered across the frozen ground like an ink stain, splitting into two as he activated Shadow Clone. Right off the bat, he went all out and engaged with four of the wolves, and his shadow clone targeted another couple of wolves.

From the looks of it, the Frozen Throne elites also did not hold back. All sorts of ice attacks started raining down on the wolves. Sylvara conjured a long ice sword and dashed towards four elite wolves of the pack, her sword play nowhere close to that of a noob’s.

Damon had to acknowledge her skill after a couple of seconds of observation. However, except for her, the others seemed to be only slightly above average.

Damon had already asked Kate and Mark to play it down, so the two of them only handled two wolves each, and that too only barely.

Mira and Aurora, on the other hand, were clearly in a league of their own. The fire goddess had a fiery aura around her that melted the snow around her feet, her staff dancing in circles of flame.

Every time she swung it, a burst of fire bloomed outward, searing the wolves’ icy hides with blistering heat. She didn’t just cast; she commanded the flames like a warlord commanding an army.

Aurora, on the other hand, stayed in the backline, but even there she radiated power. Her staff glowed with a soft, celestial light, weaving shields of gold around her allies.

When one of the wolves lunged too close, she flicked her staff, and a burst of light seared the wolf’s face, sending it yelping back. Her movements were graceful but deliberate, and even Damon felt a chill as he watched her.

That woman had the look of a predator in a priest’s robe. This part of her definitely hadn’t changed.

As he watched her, suddenly their gaze met, and the woman’s eyes widened in shock. But the next moment, she quickly looked away, her attacks quietly becoming even more powerful.

Damon once again felt the same chill run down his spine. He definitely needed to be careful of her! This woman wanted to kill him! He was sure of it!

Shaking his head, he finished the wolf currently lunging at him, quickly absorbing its blood essence.

"Pun intended." Damon laughed at his own bad joke and continued slaughtering the other three wolves, taking his sweet time with them.

Soon, the number of wolves started slowly dwindling, and there was yet to be a casualty. On the outside, it might look like the team was skilled, but Damon clearly saw that it was only because of Aurora’s superior healing skills that everyone was getting by.

"Was the old man and Sylvara the only talented people in the entire damn family?" Damon clicked his tongue in disappointment. His gaze then fell on the guy who had fought with him the other day. He was actually not doing that terribly.

On second thought, there were a couple more men who were well above average, though nothing exceptional.

In the end, the group ended up ganging up on the Frostfang Alpha and finishing it while barely breaking a sweat. At the most crucial moment, when the rare elite boss started sending out ice spikes like miniature javelins, three out of the eight failed to move in time, and Aurora bailed them out with a divine shield.

Damon did not want to miss out on the rare elite, so he made sure to snake his way to the boss, and when its health tanked, he grabbed the beast and absorbed the blood essence, bleeding out the last of its health.

The few of them who fought the thing from start to finish glared at him angrily, but Damon immediately reminded them. "What are you looking at me for? We are all in a party anyways. Experience points get divided equally. I am not kill stealing or some shit."

He did not bother with them any longer and even swiped away the loot before moving on to the next wolf.

The cold wind howled through the mountains as the rest of the pack was quickly put down.

Sylvara cleared her throat, bringing the attention back to herself. "We move in ten minutes. Everyone, get your breath back. This is only the first wave."

She swept her gaze over the group, lingering on Damon for just a heartbeat. "Especially you, Blood God. Don’t slack off. We don’t have all day to waste just because we slaughter a pack of wolves."

Damon smirked and gave her a casual salute. "I wouldn’t dream of it."
