Chapter 124: CH 124: Not who we thought (WMR2)

As Dave walked through the city streets, with the Berad Beast’s massive strides devouring the distance, he eventually arrived at a large establishment with an imposing black gate. The gate seemed to loom over them, its metal bars adorned with intricate designs that seemed both elegant and menacing.

The three men tied behind him exchanged nervous glances. "He’s here. He’s really here," Kurt whispered, his voice trembling. "What do you think will happen? The leader is definitely going to kill us," Kurt added, his eyes wide with fear.

Peter shot him a stern look. "Is that your concern right now? I’m more concerned about what will happen to us and everyone else inside." He nodded towards Dave, his eyes fixed on his imposing figure. "Can’t you see this person? He doesn’t let go of grudges, not until he’s obtained his revenge. That’s why we’re tied to the beast like this. He’s revenging on us for almost killing him, and that’s why he’s only giving us a similar punishment. It’s also the reason why we haven’t died yet."

Dave’s eyes sparkled with amusement as he listened to Peter’s words, his lips curved with a smirk as he then turned around to speak.

"I must commend you," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "You’re really a smart person. Yes, I don’t plan on killing you guys, unless you provoke me otherwise." His gaze then shifted back to the gate, "Same goes for your fellow group members hidden behind this gate."

Dave’s expression turned serious, his voice firm. "What I’m here to do is to take back my own people, but if any of your people won’t let me, then I’ll have no other choice but to take them down." He said with his eyes narrowed, and a stern gaze. "And I also want to know why your leader, Kim Hyun, had taken them." The air seemed to grow heavier with anticipation. It hung down like a palpable weight.

The three men’s eyes met, and they exchanged a look of confusion and amusement. "Our leader’s name is Kim Hyun?!" The words hung in the air, and their reactions were palpable. It wasn’t just surprise at learning their leader’s name; there was something more to it.

Kurt’s brow furrowed. "It couldn’t be a coincidence, right? Maybe it’s just someone with a similar name?" His tone was laced with doubt.

Jeff’s expression turned thoughtful. "I don’t think so. If it’s really Kim Hyun, then there’s no doubt it’s the same person." His voice was low, his words dripping with a mix of feelings.

Peter’s eyes widened, and he shook his head. "His traditional way of dressing, his way of acting... I can’t believe we’ve been following that brat all this while." His tone was a mix of disbelief and disgust.

He paused, collecting his thoughts. "Perhaps it’s due to the apocalypse, but everyone has been brainwashed, including us. Besides, what could we have done against someone like him. There are no cops to help us."

Dave’s curiosity got the better of him. "What’s going on?" he asked, his voice interrupting their conversation. Kurt turned to him, his expression serious. "Our leader, he’s not who we thought he was. We’ve been following a criminal all this while." The words spilled out, and the men’s faces reflected a mix of emotions - shock, anger, and regret.

The air inside the large establishment buzzed with restrained energy. Lights lined the roof of the paved corridors, casting an illuminating light across the dark walls.

Kim Hyun stood at the center of it all, a red mask concealing his face, leaving only the sharp line of his jaw and the cold glint in his eyes visible beneath its lacquered surface.

He issued silent orders to his men with the tilt of his head, and with a flick of his fingers. And instantly, they had all moved without question. They were given a task to do, and that was to gather the rest of the members to go tame as many beasts as they could outside the gates.

It was already nighttime, which means, it will be easier for them to hide in the shadows without any of the beasts spotting them. Unlike Dave’s way of taming beasts, they had to touch the beast for about two seconds before they could be able to tame it.

Sometimes, it results in failure, ultimately leading to their death. But as time goes on, with many people joining, they were able to aid themselves and also minimize the deaths of many people. Moreover, taming beasts was nothing but a conquest to them, and it signifies strength, so doing this had become a common task for them in this desolate world.

After giving his order, Kim Hyun didn’t watch them leave as he turned around and started heading towards a different direction. He has something to do, and it was an urgent matter. His long black coat brushed against his legs, as he strode down the corridors, making his way towards a certain room.

Although he was able to tame beasts, he still has a longsword that he would frequently hung by his side everytime. It had become an out of habit of his, as he would also use it to slay down any opponent he comes across.

He moved deeper into the building with the grace of someone who’d already mapped out every corner in his mind. He walked past doors no one else would dare open, and then approached a secluded room which he had eventually entered.

The scent of old incense lingered faintly in the air, sweet and cloying. This was his room, his personal sanctum. He closed the door softly behind him, but the sound struck like finality.

It was silent, except for the soft clink of chains that were used to bind the hands of a woman.

The woman was none other than Kim Sun. She lay on the bed, with her wrists and ankles bound in iron cuffs, their chains bolted directly into the frame. Her eyes met with the man that just entered, who had a mask covering his face.

He tilted his head, studying her as if she were a painting in a gallery, a pretty and wonderful painting. His eyes lingered on her body not just with lust but with something more potent; a carefully aged memory, and vengeance.

"My pretty wife," he murmured, each word soaked in mock affection, "you’ve grown even more exquisite than I remembered."

He stepped closer, the weight of his sword shifting slightly as he moved. "It’s funny," he continued with his smooth, tempting voice, "I still remember the day you walked away. Left me to rot behind bars while you bathed in sunlight."

A smile touched his lips, one that never reached his eyes. "It plays in my mind like a melody. I can still remember the day as if it were yesterday. And yet here we are finally. Face to face."
