Chapter 97: CH 097: You lost
Dave and the twins faced off against each other, their fists were clenched as they locked gaze with each other. At that moment Aurora had decided to be the one to charge forward first, as her fist flew towards Dave’s face.
He tilted his head back, and her punch whizzed past his nose. Undeterred, Aurora swung again, aiming for his stomach, but Dave sidestepped the blow.
She launched a flurry of punches, each one aimed at Dave’s face or torso, but he dodged them all with ease, his movements were fluid and effortless. Aurora’s frustration grew, her breathing heavy, as she tried to kick Dave, but he evaded the attack with a slight shift of his weight.
Aurora’s face twisted in a snarl as she paused, her chest heaving. "Aren’t you going to attack, or will you just keep on defending all the time?" she spat, her eyes flashing with annoyance.
Dave’s expression remained calm, his voice even. "If I’m to do that, then this fight is as clear as over. But I want to see more of your attacks, that’s why I haven’t attacked myself." His eyes never left Aurora’s face, his gaze piercing as he waited for her next move.
Aurora shifted back into position beside Eldora, her eyes fixed intently on Dave. "If you’re not going to take this match seriously, then we can just conclude that you’re weak and can’t fight us," Aurora said, her voice laced with a challenge.
Dave’s expression didn’t change, but a hint of amusement danced in his eyes. "Really? You think I’m weak?" he asked, his voice low and even. "Everything I’ve done so far, including dodging each and every one of your relentless attacks, is weakness?" His tone was incredulous, and the twins exchanged a glance.
Without warning, Dave stretched out both hands, his fingers splayed wide. The air seemed to ripple and distort, and suddenly, beasts began to emerge from the shadows. They materialized out of the thin air, their eyes glowing with an otherworldly intensity.
The creatures stood tall, their fangs bared, and their eyes fixed menacingly on the twins standing before them. The courtyard fell silent, and the only sound was the heavy breathing and growling of the beasts.
Aurora and Eldora took a step back, their faces were pale with shock. The other women in the courtyard also gasped, their eyes wide with wonder.
"How did he do that?" someone whispered. "How did he summon beasts out of the thin air?" The questions hung in the air as everyone watched, transfixed, waiting for what would happen next.
Eldora and Aurora exchanged a glance, their expressions filled with a mix of fear and wonder. The others had told them stories about Dave’s abilities, but they didn’t believe them. Now, they were standing face to face with the reality of his power.
The beasts stood motionless, with their eyes fixed intently on the twins, waiting for Dave’s command. The air was thick with tension, and the twins knew that they were in for the fight of their lives.
That was when Aurora’s eyes widened as she came to a certain realization. She gazed at the intermediate beasts summoned by Dave. She could sense their energy, feel the power emanating from them. Eldora’s gaze was equally fixed, her face set in a mixture of awe and wariness.
The twins exchanged a glance, their minds racing with thoughts and discovery. They had merged with intermediate beasts themselves, and they knew the power that came with it. And these beasts, summoned by Dave, seemed to be on the same level as theirs. They were intermediate just as they also merged with an intermediate beasts.
All of a sudden, Aurora’s posture shifted as her confidence grew once again. She smiled, a hint of mockery in her voice. "It’s some nice power you got there. I just say I’m inpressed. But, know this, you may be able to summon these beasts, but you can’t order them to fight us." Her words were laced with challenge, her eyes flashing with amusement.
Eldora nodded in agreement, her voice firm. "Yeah, they’re just here for show. You can’t control them well enough to make them attack us." The twins stood tall, their eyes locked on Dave, waiting for his next move.
Dave’s expression remained calm, his eyes didn’t leave the twins’ even for a second. But then, a wicked chuckle had escaped from his lips.
His eyes narrowed, a hint of amusement dancing in their depths. "What makes you think I can’t make them attack you?" he asked, his voice low and even. He couldn’t help but feel that the girls were underestimating him, and he was eager to prove them wrong.
Aurora smiled, her confidence growing with each passing moment. "You may have been able to attack the rest of the faction members yesterday night," she said, her voice dripping with condescension. "But unlike them, the beasts we merge with are stronger. So, these beasts of yours can’t attack us."
Eldora nodded in agreement, her eyes flashing with determination. For a moment, she had her mind wavering with different thoughts and concerns, but hearing her twin’s words had bolstered her confidence. Now, she stood tall, her gaze locked on Dave.
Dave’s expression didn’t change, but a spark of interest ignited in his eyes. He decided to test their theory, to see if their claims were true. And then with a subtle gesture, he commanded the beasts to attack the girls.
The beasts responded instantly, a loud roar escaping their lips as as they launched themselves forward. With their jaws clenched hard, they keep on closing in on the twins. The sound of their paws pounding the ground echoed through the air, and the twins’ eyes widened as they realized their mistake.
The beasts’ eyes were fixed intently on their targets, their movements swift and deadly. And all Dave could do was watch as he await the result of the attack, a hint of satisfaction in his gaze, as the twins’ confidence began to falter once again.
The twins stood frozen, their eyes fixed on the charging beasts. They didn’t flinch, didn’t move, convinced that the creatures would stop just short of attacking them, just like all the other beasts they had encountered so far.
But what they didn’t know was that these beasts were different. They were driven by a force beyond their control, being under Dave meant they had to do everything he commands them, even if it includes going against the natural way of life.
As the beasts continued to draw in closer with their jaws snapping wildly, it was then that the twins’ confidence began to falter slowly.
But just as the beasts were about to collide with the twins, a pair of arms swooped in, pulling them out of the way. One moment they were being faced by the beasts, the next they were standing behind them. The sudden movement left them disoriented, their hearts racing with fear
It was then that a low voice had spokem to their ears, the words sending a shiver down their spines. "You already lost." The voice was calm, detached, and it seemed to carry a hint of criticism.
The twins turned to face the speaker, and their eyes met with Dave’s. He stood before them, a small smile playing on his lips. His eyes sparkled with triumph as he said, "You owe me a bet for losing."
The twins’ faces fell, their eyes wide with surprise. They had been so sure of themselves, so convinced that the beasts wouldn’t attack. But Dave had proven them wrong, and now they were left to face the consequences of their loss.
