Standing Next To You-Chapter 264: Holding Hands
Chapter 264: Holding Hands
The class ended, and the hallway was full of lively students. Some students passed by the library area, laughing loudly, only to halt their laughter after noticing a certain individual in the corner.
Bei Sangyun leaned on the wall across the library door, holding a brown paper bag and a drink, earning looks and whispers from the passing students.
The tyrant was very famous, and no matter where she went, she would always be the topic of discussion. At this moment, her strange appearance made another headline on the students’ forum.
If only they were not afraid of offending the tyrant, they would have stayed longer and waited to see who Bei Sangyun was waiting for. However, everyone already had a guess in their hearts of who it could possibly be.
A few moments later, the library door opened, and Fei Chuan came out with his laptop. The moment he looked up, he saw Bei Sangyun.
Approaching him in a good mood, Bei Sangyun passed the drink to him. Fei Chuan dazedly accepted it.
She then took his laptop and handed the brown paper bag to him. "You haven’t eaten lunch yet, right? This is not a cookie, but I heard their bread is insanely good. Try it."
Bei Sangyun’s series of actions were so smooth that Fei Chuan only blinked and found himself holding the paper bag instead of his laptop.
He blinked at her, stunned. "How long have you been waiting?"
"Not long. I came here after the class ended."
Finding the class boring without her seatmate, Bei Sangyun left halfway through the class and went to the bakery she had researched before. She noticed that Fei Chuan not only liked cookies but also enjoyed pastries such as croissants and cannoli.
So, she researched famous bakeries with good reviews from buyers. After a two-hour round trip, she got the bread for him.
Fortunately, she arrived just before the bell rang.
Fei Chuan was taken aback by Bei Sangyun’s gesture. He hadn’t expected her to wait for him and even bring him snacks. Indeed, he hadn’t eaten lunch because he was too preoccupied with his work. Only now did he feel the hunger gnawing at him.
Under Bei Sangyun’s persuasive gaze, Fei Chuan opened the brown bag, and the aroma of the freshly baked croissant wafted up to his nose. It was still warm, its comforting warmth seeming to reach his heart.
Although he hadn’t tasted the bread yet, his heart felt a mixture of sweetness and sourness.
Bei Sangyun must have noticed his fondness for pastries, and she had specially bought his favorite.
Aside from Grandma Pei, no one had ever brought his favorite food to him before.
Fei Chuan wasn’t used to being treated so special, so he didn’t know how to respond. To conceal that he was affected by her sweet gesture, he lowered his head and took a bite of the soft croissant.
The flaky layers crumbled softly, the buttery richness melting on his tongue. It wasn’t overly sweet like a dessert pastry, but had a subtle sweetness that balanced the richness of the butter.
It was indeed a perfect croissant. Fei Chuan finished it in a few bites.
Bei Sangyun watched him eat and chuckled, "Slow down. No one is hurrying you."
Fei Chuan realized he had been eating as if he hadn’t eaten for two days. He slowed down and took a drink to help swallow the bread. He had forgotten how the croissant tasted, but it was surely sweet and warm.
"You’re really hungry, huh?" Bei Sangyun remarked. She tiptoed and wiped the crumbs from the corner of his lips with her finger. "If I had known you’d be this hungry, I should have bought more."
Fei Chuan stiffened. His heart, already feeling fragile from her gesture, suffered a major blow and began to race. His gaze wavered, and he found it difficult to catch his breath for a moment.
Bei Sangyun wasn’t aware of any of this. She noticed a group of girls forming a crowd not far from them, some of them taking photos.
Fei Chuan’s fans were truly amazing; they immediately figured out where he was.
Bei Sangyun held his hand and pulled him, "Your fans are here. Let’s go!"
She ran while pulling the stiff man behind her.
To be honest, Bei Sangyun didn’t need to run from them. With one threatening look, she could send them away. She also knew those girls didn’t have the courage to approach Fei Chuan while she was around.
But this was a good opportunity to hold his hand! She couldn’t let this pass!
While running, Bei Sangyun held his hand tightly, missing the time when she could hold his hand for three seconds every day. Since she couldn’t do that anymore, she might as well hold his hand as much longer as she could!
The two ran against the wind, their hearts racing crazily and their hands bound together. Spring was just around the corner, leaves were sprouting on the trees, flowers were starting to bloom, and the coldness was swept away.
Bei Sangyun only stopped running when she couldn’t breathe anymore. She didn’t let go of his hand as she took a break. freewebnσvel.cøm
"...T-they... huffed... g-gone... right?" Bei Sangyun asked between breaths.
Fei Chuan was also breathing hard. He hadn’t run as fast as this since he tried to escape from the bullies. He wanted to wipe the sweat from his forehead, but both of his hands were occupied.
The paper bag had blown off long ago, and the drink was still in his hand. While his other hand... Fei Chuan glanced at their bound hands.
As if stung, he immediately looked behind him pretending to check if they had been followed, his ears turning red.
"...They’re gone," he confirmed.
Bei Sangyun pretended to sigh in relief, "Whoo! We dodged a bullet!" She was still not letting go.
Fei Chuan nodded, "...Yeah." He also didn’t struggle out of her hold.
The two suddenly turned quiet. Without those people chasing them, there was no need to hold hands anymore.
But Bei Sangyun didn’t want to let go, and Fei Chuan... was still pondering about it.
"Bei Sangyun." Amidst the silence, a person suddenly spoke up, making the two jump in surprise.
Fei Chuan immediately pulled his hand away, and Bei Sangyun was surprised by the voice, causing her hold to loosen.
Before she realized she had let go, Fei Chuan had already distanced himself from her.
Bei Sangyun: "...."
