Standing Next To You-Chapter 31: Not A Ghost Anymore
Chapter 31: Not A Ghost Anymore
".....Lies."
Bei Sangyun murmured as tears strolled down from the corner of her eyes. Her eyes were hazy and out of focus. As if she was dreaming while wide awake.
She lay on the soft big bed as she was silently crying from a memory that happened so long ago.
But this memory was so vivid that she remembered everything so clearly.
From her life in the village to her arrival in the capital, the Lin family, her illness, and eventually her death. And.....Fei Chuan.
As if she relived this life and had gone through it. She remembered her separation from her grandma, her worsening sickness, and Fei Chuan’s lifeless body in front of her grave.
Bei Sangyun dazedly reached out her hands.
They said that people dreamed of something they hid in their subconsciousness. That parting must have stuck in her mind even after death that she even dreamed about it. But can ghosts even dream?
Thinking back to the life she had lived, Bei Sangyun self-mockingly laughed at herself.
She had lived such a tiring life but for what reason?
For her pride? For her promise? For revenge? For what?
She lived such an exhausting life yet the very people she cared about only suffered. Even she herself, who seemed to get everything in everyone’s eyes, was suffering until her death.
"Young Miss, your school is about to start. Mr. Xin asked you to prepare for the morning breakfast." A familiar voice sounded in the room.
Bei Sangyun recognized this voice. It was her maid’s voice who worked for her for a long time.
"Heh, I am still remembering some familiar voices. My memory is indeed good." Bei Sangyun stared into her stretched-out hands.
But then she frowned. She felt something was strange.
Then her eyes traveled to the ceiling.
This ceiling looked familiar.
Ah. She remembered it now. It looked very much the same as the ceiling in her room in the Lin mansion.
Was her soul no longer tied to her grave? Could she travel freely now?
But so what?
So what if she could travel? There was nothing in this world worth looking at.
All the people she cared about are dead. She lost interest in anything and just wished her soul to disappear. She even watched that foolish man’s death, so what was the use of staying in this world?
Was she truly a bad person that god did not want to get her soul back?
Even the merciful god rejected her now.
"Young Miss!"
A girl in her early twenties appeared in Bei Sangyun’s vision. "
You have to prepare now! Master Lin is already awake!"
Bei Sangyun blinked. Her maid’s face was a lot younger than her memory.
And why did she want her to meet her grandpa? That old man died a long time ago.
Could it be his soul remained in this world too?
"Young Miss!" The young maid did not hesitate anymore and pulled her arm to make her sit up from the bed.
Her shaking caused Bei Sangyun to feel the heaviness of her body. Her out-of-focus gaze went to normal.
She looked back at the young maid in shock.
"You....you can see me?"
"Are you still dreaming? Wake up! Mr. Xin will get angry and will punish me again if you miss your chance to have breakfast with Master Lin."
The young maid started to unbutton Bei Sangyun’s pajamas.
Bei Sangyun was still stunned. She asked with wide eyes, "You can touch me?"
The young maid: "...."
She looked at Bei Sangyun as if she was deranged. "Are you acting like this because you lost your taste again?"
Bei Sangyun was confused. She looked around and realized she was back in her room in the Lin mansion. The maid looked a lot younger than she remembered and her hands....
She looked at her hands, "...I’m not skin and bones."
She had some flesh. Not a skeleton before her death. Nor she was a soul or a ghost.
"I... I think I’m back," Bei Sangyun managed to utter, her voice hoarse and filled with astonishment. Her heart raced.
Would god be so kind and forgiving that he gave her a chance to live again?
Bei Sangyun suddenly stood up and held the maid’s shoulder. "How old I am?"
The maid blinked confusedly. She wanted to ask if the young miss had also lost her reason along with her taste. But since time was running out, she answered honestly.
"You are eighteen old years old. Young Miss, we don’t have time for this."
Bei Sangyun asked in shock, "I am eighteen?!"
The young maid: "...."
"Eighteen years old..." Bei Sangyun muttered. Then her eyes lit up. "There is still time."
She paced around like a mad woman. Then she laughed. Her eyes were glistening with tears as she put her hands together, "Whoever god you are, thank you. Thank you for bringing me back on this time." frёewebnoѵēl.com
The young maid: "..."
She was speechless by Bei Sangyun’s strange actions. She had been serving the young miss for quite a long time now and she had never seen her laugh or prayed like a lunatic. This sudden change of attitude scared the young maid.
"Young miss, I will tell Mr. Xin that you are not feeling well." The young maid immediately left the room.
There was definitely something wrong with the Young Miss!
Bei Sangyun was left alone in the room. She thanked the heavens earnestly.
It was funny that she was just thinking of disappearing earlier, but the heavens took pity on her. They gave her a chance to live this life rightfully.
In this life, she would not live meaninglessly. As long as the people she cared about were still in this world, she would like this world.
Bei Sangyun did not waste time and immediately changed her clothes. She would go back to that countryside and fulfill the promise that she was too late to accomplish.
