The table was once again silent.

Bei Sangyun glanced at the man who spoke. Seeing the familiar face that was not yet yellowish and was still healthy, she was silent for a moment. She stared at his face for a few seconds before looking away from him.

She nodded her head at Old Master Lin and casually greeted him, "It’s been a long time, old man. You look young and healthy."

Old Master Lin: "....?"

The men behind him: "!"

The stern middle-aged man’s face darkened, "Sangyun, what’s with your manner of speaking?"

"Pftt. Your daughter is just like you. Mannerless and rude."

"What will you expect from someone who grew up in a poor countryside? I don’t really comprehend why father insists on giving that wild child a chance. Although she is a bit smarter, her personality and way of thinking is the most important. But it’s clear she’s lacking those."

"Hey, don’t speak like that with Third Brother around. You might hurt his feelings."

The men snickered and mockingly laughed at the stern middle-aged man.

The stern middle-aged man’s face turned white and red. He clenched his fist as he endured their mocking. He was blaming Bei Sangyun inside. When he met her later, he would give her a good scolding.

And what on earth was Butler Xin doing? Why did he allow Bei Sangyun to leave?

"What are you doing bickering around like children? Is it fun to tease your brother? It is because of these childish attitudes that I can’t trust anyone of you as my official heir." Old Master Lin gave a stern glare at his sons.

The four middle-aged men lowered their heads as they hid their deep thoughts.

"I really hope that none of your children will resemble the five of you." Old Master Lin said. "I suddenly missed Yin’er and her child. At least Yin’er won’t act like the five of you. Having a daughter among sons is a wise choice indeed."

The four middle-aged men including Ginxian had bitter faces.

Old Master Lin glanced at Bei Sangyun’s father, "And Ginxian, take particular care of your daughter. I heard that she was sick a while ago. So don’t be too hard on her."

Ginxian, Bei Sangyun’s father, nodded. "Yes, Father."

But his clenched fist said otherwise.

Bei Sangyun left the messy Lin household and immediately bought a plane ticket.

As she was on the plane watching the passing clouds, her mind wondered about the faces she saw back in that house- the Lin family.

Seeing their young and healthy faces, which were different from the past, made Bei Sangyun feel a bit conflicted.

The last image she saw of the old man was in his dying moments. He lay sick in bed, thin and weak, trying his best to be a good grandfather to his chosen heir one last time. However, he was met with a cold and ruthless gaze instead.

That look haunted her dreams for a long time, making it difficult to forget that memory.

It wasn’t just the old man; the men behind him also left a lasting impression on Bei Sangyun. All of them were displaying their worst moments, so it took her a while to shake off those images and overlapped them with the people she was seeing now.

Bei Sangyun put her chin on top of her palm.

It seemed that...she had truly led a badass life. All the memories of those people held nothing but darkness and ugliness.

Had she been too harsh on them? No. They had been the first to make a move. She was simply seeking ’revenge’. A meaningless revenge.

Bei Sangyun sighed.

Regardless, there was no use in dwelling on those things.

She had a new life now. She wouldn’t squander this opportunity by living a miserable life once again or exacting revenge as she was done with it. This time, she would live as she pleased, fulfilling all her heartfelt wishes.

Bei Sangyun gazed at the drifting clouds and let out a faint smile. "Grandma, I’m on my way."
