Standing Next To You-Chapter 358: Goal Achieved!
Chapter 358: Goal Achieved!
Grandma Pei gently took her hand.
"I am so happy to meet you again. I have a lot of things to say. The Young Master was very heartbroken when you left the village. So I am glad that you two met again and even have a better relationship. I am no longer worried about my Young Master’s future. Please take care of him."
Bei Sangyun was deeply touched by Grandma Pei’s warm and overwhelming welcome. It lifted the burden from her heart, easing her nervousness.
Fei Chuan felt flustered. It hadn’t even been five minutes since they met, and already many of his secrets had been exposed by his own grandmother. Ugh... so embarrassing.
Grandma Pei was exceptionally friendly and caring. Her warmth reminded Bei Sangyun of her own grandmother. How wonderful it would be if the four of them could share a meal together as well.
Bei Sangyun squeezed her hand back. "Yes, Grandma, I will take care of him."
Grandma Pei smiled.
The three sat back and waited for their order. Even though it took a long time for their food to arrive, they weren’t bored. Especially Bei Sangyun and Grandma Pei, who hit it off and began conversing passionately. Actually, it was more like Grandma Pei telling a lot of stories while Bei Sangyun listened and commented from time to time.
Meanwhile, the topic of their discussion sat like a decoration on the wall.
"You know how he was when he was a kid, right? He had such a bad temper back then. But when you left, he searched the entire village until he got sick. Then he cried the next day."
Bei Sangyun’s eyes sparkled as she listened. She did not know about that. Fei Chuan actually cried for her? She thought their parting was filled with hatred. Or perhaps... she was the only one who felt that way?
She glanced at Fei Chuan with mixed emotions, but he avoided her gaze, trying to minimize his presence. He had long gone offline.
"He cut off ties with his friends abruptly. He was deeply hurt by that incident. For a while, he blamed himself, thinking you left because of him. I’m relieved you two have reconciled in the end."
Bei Sangyun paused, her thoughts drifting back to the past. Fei Chuan had mentioned something about it at the graveyard. Suddenly, realization dawned on her, and the twinkle in her eyes faded.
Fei Chuan noticed her sudden shift in mood. He gently nudged her arm under the table.
Bei Sangyun snapped out of her reverie and looked at him, meeting his concerned gaze.
She smiled at him to not worry and then continued to listen to Grandma Pei with the same enthusiasm as before.
"When I heard the news from our driver that you and the Young Master got together, I was really happy..."
The conversation lasted for a long time. Grandma Pei only halted when the food arrived.
"Oh, goodness me. I’ve talked without a break, and my throat is parched. Forgive me, my dear. I’m just so excited to meet you again."
"I am very happy to listen, Grandma. If you have more stories to tell, I am ready to listen until the next day comes," Bei Sangyun winked.
Grandma Pei chuckled.
The three began eating. Although the two tried to keep down their habits of putting food on each other’s plates, Grandma Pei still noticed their dependence on each other.
She watched as Fei Chuan subconsciously put meat on Bei Sangyun’s plate, while Bei Sangyun put side dishes on his plate. Both of them paused when they realized what they had done, then shyly pretended that nothing had happened and continued eating.
Grandma Pei smiled deeply. Look at the Young Master she had taken care of since he was a baby, now all grown up and picking the best part of the meat to give to his girlfriend. She was starting to get jealous, ah.
Suddenly, the tender part of the meat was placed on top of Grandma Pei’s rice. Bei Sangyun smiled warmly at her. "I heard from Fei Chuan that you like this part the most. Enjoy, Grandma, and may you live a long and healthy life." She then added some vegetables to Grandma Pei’s plate.
Grandma Pei’s heart swelled with affection. What a thoughtful young woman.
"Grandma will live long so I can see you two get married."
Bei Sangyun: !
Her eyes sparkled with delight, her smile widening. Goal achieved! Hehe.
Bei Sangyun smirked at Fei Chuan smugly. ’How about that, Fei Chuan? You can’t escape this relationship now!’
Fei Chuan paused. Bei Sangyun’s expression was written all over her face. He would be blind if he did not understand what she meant. His ears turned red, and he continued to eat to hide the uncontrollable smile on his lips.
....
After the meal, Grandma Pei wanted to go to the restroom. Bei Sangyun accompanied her.
While Grandma Pei was washing her hands at the sink, she looked at Bei Sangyun’s reflection in the mirror. She couldn’t help but smile again.
The Young Master really chose well. Bei Sangyun was smart since she was a child. She was very lively, studious, and respected her elders. Now, she had turned into a stunning lady. Grandma Pei could sense the maturity and sharpness around her that no one could easily gain.
Grandma Pei’s only worry was that since Bei Sangyun was so impressive, she might receive marriage offers from other reputable families. She had heard from the driver that this child did not have a good standing in the Lin family, much like the Young Master.
Grandma Pei wiped her hands and faced Bei Sangyun. "Sangyun, my dear, I am very glad that you gave the Young Master a chance. The path you both take might be arduous, but as long as you two are happy, don’t give up."
Bei Sangyun understood Grandma Pei’s worries. She reassured her, "I won’t give up on him, even if he pushes me away in the future. I will make him happy and healthy, Grandma. And honestly, it’s Fei Chuan who gave me the chance. I am very grateful that he opened his heart to me."
Grandma Pei smiled, unable to suppress her memories of the past.
"That child has been through so much. He grew up unloved by his parents. And when that scammer told the Headmaster he wouldn’t live long, he was abandoned the moment he got sick. He was betrayed by those he loved, so it was hard for him to trust or open up to anyone."
Grandma Pei squeezed her hand. "The first person he allowed into his heart is you. I think he is slowly opening up to others too. My wish for him is not to grow up alone. With you by his side, I am no longer worried."
This was the first time Bei Sangyun heard all of this. Although the past Fei Chuan had slightly mentioned the reason why he was kicked out, she did not know that he was abandoned ruthlessly by his family for that kind of reason.
No wonder it had taken so much effort to win Fei Chuan over. No wonder he struggled to recognize and acknowledge his feelings. Was that why he proposed the one-month dating arrangement?
It must have been hard for him to control and admit his feelings. His heart wanted her, but he couldn’t completely give in, so he decided to compromise. He gave in to his feelings but put a limit on them as a safety net so that he wouldn’t get too deeply hurt if things went wrong.
Bei Sangyun finally understood. And couldn’t help but feel bitter and heartbroken for him.
