Standing Next To You-Chapter 550: No longer predicted
Chapter 550: No longer predicted
Zhong Cheng hummed as he walked down the hallway toward the conference room. He was in an exceptionally good mood—first, because his boss had been visiting the company more often lately, taking some of the workload off his shoulders; and second, because he finally had a vice chairman!
He had interviewed the new man yesterday and had immediately taken a liking to him. The newcomer’s personality, demeanor, and skills had far exceeded his expectations. Now, Zhong Cheng couldn’t wait to see how he would perform in his new role.
When he arrived at the conference room, his eyes landed on his new favorite person—a tall, handsome man with tanned skin—Xu Tian.
The other department heads were already there, waiting for him. He introduced Xu Tian to everyone, and each of them congratulated the new vice chairman.
"Familiarize yourself with the departments," Zhong Cheng instructed. "The other heads will show you around and explain their routines." Then, turning to the department heads, he added, "You guys have lunch with our new vice later. It’s on me."
The department heads cheered and thanked him.
Satisfied, Zhong Cheng nodded and left them to get acquainted. After all, these department heads would be working closely with the new vice chairman.
He then made his way to the chairman’s office, where he found Bei Sangyun still buried in work at her desk.
"The new vice is touring the place. Do you want to meet him?" he asked.
Bei Sangyun paused. The image of the tall, tanned man in her memory was slightly vague, but he had still left an impression on her. After all, he was one of the few people she had personally poached but got rejected.
"Later," she said. "Let him get familiar with the place first."
Zhong Cheng agreed. He had briefly mentioned to Xu Tian that there was someone above him—the sole owner of Phoenix Holdings—but he hadn’t gone into detail. It was better for the vice chairman to figure it out himself or wait until the Boss decided to reveal themselves.
He glanced at Bei Sangyun, who seemed engrossed in her work. Over the past few days, although he was grateful for her presence and the way she lightened his workload, he had finally calmed down enough to question why the Boss was here in the first place.
She was already busy managing the growing company she had established abroad. Yet here she was, taking on even more responsibilities. Zhong Cheng couldn’t help but wonder if something was going on. Usually, whenever curiosity struck him, he would ask Bei Sangyun directly. However, his instincts told him that this time, it was best to leave her alone.
Having worked under her for a long time, he knew that if she needed his help or someone to talk to, she would come to him. But now, she was deliberately burying herself in work—distracting herself from something she had no control over.
Zhong Cheng sighed. Sometimes, despite his role as her right-hand man, there was little he could do. Instead of dwelling on it, he picked up some work and got started.
The room fell silent again as Bei Sangyun and Zhong Cheng worked side by side.
Time passed, and Bei Sangyun finished her tasks for Phoenix Holdings. Over the past few days, she had immersed herself so deeply in work that her already remarkable efficiency had become even more impressive. She had managed to complete three days’ worth of work in a single day.
Now that her tasks were done and the rest was being handled by Zhong Cheng, she found herself with nothing to do. But she had no desire to rest—not when it meant giving her mind the space to wander. So, without hesitation, she pulled out another file. It had nothing to do with her company, but it was something she had been working on during her "breaks" over the past few days.
It was an investigative file—a compilation of every relevant piece of information that might lead to the "answer" the monk had hinted at.
In recent days, she had crossed out several names and events that had seemed like possible leads. However, as time passed, even as some were eliminated, the list of possibilities only grew longer.
But there were some things that took her attention.
Her gaze settled on a particular name—Bei Xingyun.
Of all the discoveries she had made, the events surrounding Bei Xingyun had been the most surprising.
After returning from Country C, Bei Xingyun had taken a vacation with her husband—the same sequence of events as in their previous life.
Bei Sangyun vividly remembered their conversation when they first met in the previous timeline. Just like in this life, Bei Xingyun had come to her, begging her not to reveal their relationship to anyone.
This had infuriated Bei Sangyun.
Bei Xingyun had abandoned her once again, choosing that false life over her. freewebnσvel.cѳm
Back then, she had followed her to that faraway country, not out of love, but out of curiosity—she wanted to see the life of the mother who had abandoned her.
Seeing Bei Xingyun happy with her husband and new family had consumed her with envy and hatred. So she had destroyed her husband’s company. She wanted to prove that, in times of hardship, her husband would abandon her. She wanted Bei Xingyun to regret her choices.
Of course, even if Bei Xingyun had begged to return, Bei Sangyun wouldn’t have accepted her.
She hadn’t wanted reconciliation—only to see her mother regret and suffer. What happened next, once Bei Xingyun was left with nothing, had never mattered to her.
However, despite all her efforts—despite crushing her husband’s company and even exposing her true identity—Bei Xingyun’s husband had not left her. He had accepted and forgiven her.
In the end, though their life had become much humbler, they had remained together and happy.
But this time... something was different.
During the vacation, her people reported that Mr. Kurt, Bei Xingyun’s husband, had suddenly left—without her. A few days later, he hired a lawyer and filed for divorce.
The two parties were still in negotiations, but this turn of events truly shocked Bei Sangyun.
