The air was electric with tension as Elian and Kael stood frozen, their eyes locked in a fierce stare. The silence between them seemed to stretch on forever, until finally, they both sprang into action.
With a fierce cry, Elian and Kael rushed at each other, their fists clenched and their powers at the ready. The courtyard around them erupted into chaos as students scrambled to get out of the way.
But just as it seemed like the two boys were about to collide, a voice rang out across the courtyard. "Hey, hey, hey! What's going on here?"
A figure stepped forward, a short, slim thick girl with ponytails and a lazy grin. Her name was Zain, and she was known for her ability to manipulate gravity and force.
With a flick of her wrist, Zain sent a gentle wave of force flowing through the air, effortlessly stopping Elian and Kael in their tracks. The two boys stumbled backward, their chests heaving with exertion.
Zain's eyes narrowed as she looked from Elian to Kael and back again. "What's going on, guys? You've been at each other's throats all week. What's the problem?"
Elian and Kael exchanged a wary glance, neither of them willing to back down. But Zain's calm, gentle tone seemed to diffuse some of the tension, and eventually, Elian spoke up.
"It's just...Kael and I have a difference of opinion," Elian said, his voice tight with restraint.
Kael snorted. "A difference of opinion? That's rich, coming from you."
Zain held up a hand, her eyes flashing with a warning. "Hey, hey, let's not start that again. Whatever it is, we can work it out. But first, you've got to tell me what's going on."
