Chapter 160: Angry

Mari sat on her bed with her lips pursed as she replayed her conversation with Jax earlier, wondering what she said to piss him off.

He had walked away in the middle of the movie they were seeing and he had seemed quite upset. Although they had done more talking than seeing a movie, still she was perplexed because she couldn’t remember saying anything out of the ordinary.

She had picked out an action movie for them to watch as he asked her to.

Before the movie started, she had turned off the lights and drawn the blinds so that the living room would be dark and cozy enough, and then she had gone back to the couch and snuggled next to him.

"What are you doing?" He had asked, cutting her a sideways glance when she leaned against him resting her head on his shoulder.

"Finding a comfortable position for the movie," she said with a grin.

Jax used his forefinger to push her head away before moving away from her to the other end of the couch, "You’re something else, you know that?"

"I know," she said with a grin as she focused on the television.

"C’mon! Not again," she muttered, already unimpressed as the movie started with the camera panning across a destroyed cityscape.

"What?" Jax asked, wondering what she was complaining about.

"I guess we’re going with alien invasion story again. I’ve seen countless number of movies with this same storyline."

Jax raised a brow. "Didn’t you know that when you chose the movie? Besides, what’s wrong with that?"

Mari rolled her eyes. "It’s always the same thing. Either aliens are coming to destroy the planet, or some villain wants revenge for something, or a human robot or experiment was made and needs to be taken down, or some wild animal needs taming, or it’s Russia and America throwing punches in slow motion while the world burns."

He resisted the urge to laugh. "What more do you want them to act about?"

"I don’t know. Anything else!" she said, throwing her hands up. "I just want to see something new. They just keep doing the same movie with new faces in different outfits."

Jax hid his amusement with a snort and looked at her sideways. "The fact that you’ve seen countless numbers of movies with the same storyline and you keep choosing to watch them like you are doing now, should tell you it’s what viewers like."

"Nope. I chose to watch it because it’s the manageable choice from the long list of senseless movies," she countered.

"Then go become a screenwriter and come up with your own masterpiece," Jax muttered.

"Maybe I should. What do you think about becoming an actor?" She asked, and he frowned.

"What?"

"If I become a screenwriter," Mari said dramatically, placing a hand over her chest, "I’d be the heroine in my story, of course. And you..." she pointed at him, "you’d be the broody male lead."

Jax looked at her, slightly taken aback by how she had switched the subject. "That’d be a real horror movie," Jax muttered, eyes back on the screen.

Mari laughed. "Nah, it would be an x-rated romcom. With lots of moaning and groaning and dramatic kisses in the rain."

Jax slowly turned to her with a blank look and shook his head. "Is that all you think about? You’re crazy."

"Very," she concurred, adjusting on the couch. "Very crazy about you."

Without hesitation, she stretched her legs across the couch and wiggled her toes as she plopped them onto his thighs with a satisfied sigh.

Jax stared at her legs like they were fire ants before pushing them off with a grunt.

"Wow. For someone who explored my body so intimately while I was sleeping, you’re being real stingy with your thighs," she muttered, rubbing her feet together.

Jax glared. "What is your problem?"

"You," Mari replied sweetly, leaning closer. "You pretending to play hard to get when we both know you want me."

"I want a lot of things," Jax said coolly, turning back to the TV. "Doesn’t mean I go for them."

"But I want you to come for me. You see, that’s where we’re different," she whispered, her tone turning teasing. "I always go after what I want. And right now?" She placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled. "What I want is you."

"Too bad because you’re not going to get me," he said with a frown, his body stiffening under her touch.

"Wanna bet on it?" She asked as she traced her finger down from his shoulder until she felt his nipple.

Jax sucked in a breath and felt a twitch between his legs. "You’re crazy."

She nodded "Crazy in lust."

"What the hell does that even mean?" Jax asked in a husky voice as he grabbed her hand.

Mari cocked her head. "It means I want you. I want you to continue from where we stopped this morning," she said as she leaned forward and brushed her lips over his before he could stop her.

His jaw tightened. "That will never happen. Get that thought out of your head."

"Why not?" She asked as she swung one leg over his thigh and straddled him. "Do you really not want to have me? Even just once?" Mari asked, her pulse racing.

She wanted to turn him on, but she seemed to be doing a good job turning herself on in the process.

Jax gritted his teeth, his blood pounding in his ears as he felt the rising bulge in his groin.

Mari felt his reaction too, and she adjusted, sitting directly on it. Jax sucked in a breath at the movement.

"Tell me something," she said, voice low and playful, "how did you and Diva become... you know, fuck buddies?"

"That’s not your business," he growled as he gently pushed her off him and rose.

Mari’s gaze dropped to the tent that had formed in front of his sweatpants. "Why don’t we take care of that?"

"I don’t need your help to take care of it..."

"Okay. How about we become fuck buddies for the duration of my stay here?"

"Fuck buddies? Sex is all you want from me, isn’t it?" He asked, watching her closely.

Mari nodded. "Yes. After you set me free we can go our separate ways and forget we ever crossed paths," she proposed with a smile.

Jax’s expression turned dark. What was it with women only wanting sex from him?

"I have no intention of ever being anyone’s fuck buddy again, especially not yours. I’m not laying a finger on you.You can see the movie yourself or do whatever you want. Starve to death if you please. I’m out of here," he said, and Mari blinked. The anger in his voice caught her off guard.

Without waiting for her to say anything he walked away.

She had not seen him since then and it had been hours already.

Now Mari frowned, still wondering why he seemed so upset. What had she said to anger him that way?

She had been holding back from going to find him all day, but now she couldn’t anymore. She wanted him to tell her what she did wrong so that she could apologize.

Getting off the bed, she walked out of the room and went upstairs in search of him.

When she got to his bedroom, she knocked on the door but there was no response. She then turned the knob.

The door didn’t open.

She frowned as she twisted it again, but it was locked.

Where did he go? Mari wondered as she returned downstairs and headed for the outside door.

She had never stepped out of the house since she arrived, so she didn’t know exactly what to expect.

Mari opened the front door and stepped outside. The air outside was warm. For a moment, she just stood there in the doorway, looking around her.

She stepped forward, her foot landing on the first stone step, and then she noticed movement.

Two huge men stepped forward from the edge of the front porch on each side of the door. She recognized them immediately.

They were the men who had abducted her from her car.

They didn’t speak. They didn’t smile. They just stared at her as though they were waiting for her to make a move.

Seeing them made her feel like a hostage right now. She never felt that way around Jax, but with these two men, she felt like a real hostage.

"Uh... hi," she said, her voice small.

Neither of them replied.

"I’m not trying to escape. I was just looking for Jax," she added, glancing around the yard.

Two cars were parked in front of the house, and there was a garden to the left, full of tall green plants and flowers in beautiful colors. To the right, a small gravel path led away from the house and curved behind it.

The one on the left tilted his head, like he was waiting for her to say something else. The one on the right raised one hand and pointed back at the house.

Go back inside.

That was what the motion meant. It was clear.

Mari swallowed. "I just want to talk to him. You can tell me where he is or tell him I want to see him," she insisted.

She stayed still for a long moment, watching them and waiting for them to respond. When it was clear that they didn’t want to say anything, she returned inside, feeling their eyes on her as she closed the door.
