Suddenly, I Am Rich-Chapter 28: A Lancaster, After All
Chapter 28: A Lancaster, After All
"So do you understand what I said?" Gray adjusted his hold on the tablet that was in his hands. His eyes squinted as he glanced at the whiteboard, full of written words.
The afternoon sun filtered through the tall windows of the Lancaster estate's study room, casting long streaks of light across the polished floor.
"Yeah," Chloe briefly nodded as she scribbled down some notes in her notebook. She had been learning a few new things with the help of Gray. It's just the 3rd session, but she could say she had improved a lot.
Chloe was happy with it. Her session with Gray also helped a lot in making her recall all the lessons that she has learned over the last months.
She was very thankful for it.
"That's good, then," Gray said as he placed the tablet on the table. It has been an hour since their session started, and they have already discussed a few things.
"That's good then. It seemed like you're not as hopeless as you claim to be." Gray's lips turned into a playful smile. He sat down and lay his back gently on the couch.
Gray knew that learning continuously would be too tiring, so every hour or then, he would stop his lesson and talk to Chloe for a moment.
"I never said I was hopeless." Chloe gave Gray a joking glare.
Gray playfully shrugged her shoulders. Their moments like this allowed him to get to know Chloe more.
Chloe was kind, that's for sure. She also liked joking around, so it wasn't that hard to be comfortable around her. Though Gray also knew that behind that, there was something more to Chloe.
She can't be just kind and a joker when she grew up in a household that was known to be serious and powerful. There was more to it than the eyes could see, and he wanted to discover what it was.
Chloe sighed and shook her head. She sat still for a second before leaning forward, her elbows resting on the table.
"By the way... what happened to the investment? Weren't you asking me about it last time?" She raised a brow and stared at Gray with great interest.
Gray gave a soft chuckle, relaxing further into the couch.
"I actually listened to what you said. I took your advice seriously since it was helpful."
"You did?" Chloe blinked, slightly surprised. Her heart thumped a little. She could feel a smile forming on her lips, knowing that Gray followed her words.
"Yeah. I figured if you were willing to talk about it, then it was probably worth checking out. So, I went for Velmora Tech." He nodded.
"Velmora?" Her eyes widened slightly.
"Mhm," Gray confirmed, watching her reaction carefully. "That's what you mentioned, remember? You said there was going to be a big move soon. So, I trusted you."
Chloe let out a short breath, nodding.
"Ohhh... that's good. They're a solid choice. Don't worry. I'm sure they'll rise soon." But despite her smile, her thoughts drifted elsewhere.
"Good then..." Gray slowly nodded. He frowned, noticing how sure Chloe was.
Well, maybe the rumors that their company would support Velmora Technology weren't just rumors.
After their talk, Chloe didn't say much. The conversation naturally quieted, and she simply flipped through her notebook without a word. Gray noticed, but he didn't press about it since she was really like that sometimes.
Just like their previous session, they took a short rest, letting a few more minutes pass as they did their own things.
Eventually, Gray stretched and stood up, catching Chloe's attention again. "All right, let's continue our lesson."
With what he said, the two of them continued on their tutoring session immediately.
The atmosphere in the study returned to its earlier rhythm. It was quiet, focused, and filled with the sound of the occasional scratch of a pen or the sound of a page turning.
Gray stood in front of the whiteboard again, explaining a few advanced concepts to Chloe. He occasionally turned to check on her, if she could follow along.
Chloe responded with brief nods and small smiles as she jotted down key terms and numbers.
The two of them continued like that for the next couple of hours, Eventually, Gray glanced at his phone and sighed.
"That's three hours already. Time flies, huh?" He lert out a small laugh and smiled at Chloe. "I guess our session for today is done, then."
He stood up and began packing his things. "Anyway, I'll see you next session. Same time?"
Chloe stood up as well, her usual bright smile returning to her lips. "Yup. Thanks again, Gray. Be safe on your way home."
"Of course. I'll see you tomorrow, Chloe," Gray said, giving her a quick wave before walking out of the study.
The moment the door clicked shut behind him, the smile on Chloe's face vanished. Her expression shifted into something unreadable. She looked serious and composed. Her posture straightened as if a switch had been flipped.
Without hesitation, she stepped out of the study and made her way down the hallway of their mansion. A maid who had been quietly dusting near the staircase noticed her approach and immediately stepped aside, lowering her gaze.
"Tell my father I'd like to speak with him," Chloe said, her tone was calm but firm. It was different from the sweet and soft tone she'd use when talking to Gray.
"Y-Yes, Miss. Right away." The maid straightened, clearly startled at the sudden command.
Everyone in the household knew that Chloe was kind and playful. But when she gave an order, there was no room for questions.
She was a Lancaster, after all. And the Lancasters weren't known for their softness—they were known for their power, control, and money.
Chloe didn't wear her dominance like a crown. Well, she didn't have to. Everyone who works with their family knows that she wasn't one to be messed with.
Chloe wasn't always kind. She was just simply smart enough to know how to treat people.
