Chapter 115 -110: The Third Demon
It was morning, and the rain had stopped, but after being soaked overnight, a chill hung in the air, bringing a sense of winter back suddenly.
“It’s time to wake up, she’s already left,” the Red Demonic Spirit mentioned.
Only then Ye Chen rose, heaved a huge bag and went downstairs to eat breakfast. He also prepared some food for the road, with the main priority of satisfying his hunger.
Ye Chen cast a glance at himself and said, “I need to change into some better-looking clothes.”
“You look just fine this way, people are likely to mistake you for a beggar.” The Red Demonic Spirit said with a chuckle.
“Can I use this silver?” Ye Chen headed towards a clothing store.
“Don’t show off too much, be careful of robbers.”
“Thanks for the advice.” Ye Chen had already entered the shop, bought two clothes, packed one and wore the other. When he came out, the outside world was already bright, and the fog had dispersed somewhat. Even though it was still heavy and the sun seemed influenced by the last night’s rain, like a shy girl, it was still not willing to fully show up.
Ye Chen led the horse towards the city gate; he had an agreement to assemble at the city entrance.
As expected, a large group of people gathered at the city gates, with horses and camels laden with goods. These were traders ready to transport these goods to Wasteland City. While traveling, they also took people into the Wastelands, making a bit of extra cash along the way.
A large, fat man, who looked particularly Mongolian, weighing around 300 pounds, was briefing everyone with heavy breath, “On the road, make sure to stay close to us. If you don’t keep up and anything happens, it’s not our responsibility. The Wastelands haven’t been peaceful these last few years, and there might be robbers on the road.”
Ye Chen was taken aback, and asked, “I thought the Wastelands had been fine in recent years? Why are there still robbers?”
“The last couple of years have been unstable. Several groups of bandits have appeared, but as long as you stick close to us, you won’t run into any major issues. They’re just small groups. We can protect you.” The man continued, “I hope to safely escort you to Wasteland City without any accidents.”
More and more people kept arriving. The man spoke a bit more, primarily about how to be cautious of sandstorms and what to do if one occurred. He droned on about these necessary pieces of knowledge.
They quickly set off with a group of around two hundred people. Not a small crowd. Following the caravan, there were still many others like Ye Chen, some riding horses while others only had bags.
Looking at the long line of people, Ye Chen murmured to himself, “Quite a lot of people are going to the Wastelands! It seems the Wastelands aren’t as bad as they say, otherwise, not so many people would choose to go there.”
He noticed some swordsmen and wondered why these people from the Realm of Immortals and Demons were also going to the Wastelands.
It was then he realized that many sects in the Wastelands were currently expanding and recruiting new disciples. They felt that there were great opportunities, so they chose to leave the Central Plains and strive to make a name for themselves in the Wastelands.
After riding on horseback for a while, he felt a little restless. Seeing a group of sword-bearing people talking up ahead, he decided to listen in on their conversation.
He led his horse forward. After all, he was about to enter the Wastelands, he needed to learn a little more about them.
He learned that after the Third Demon unified the Wastelands, it had split into three territories. Although these territories still belonged to the Third Demon, their ties had weakened over the years. The Third Demon was essentially in name only and there wasn’t much cooperation between them. The territories were each controlled by the Heavenly King, Earth King, and Sea King.
Heavenly King Wei Sisan had the largest territory among the three and was the Alliance Leader in name and fact. The other two Kings gave him face, considering that the people in the Wastelands still recognized the Third Demon. However, with Wei Sisan’s current health, both the Earth King, Gua Zhengnie, and the Sea King, Zun Yu, harboured ambitions to become the new Alliance Leader, or even raise the banner of the Third Demon anew.
Just then, a new sect called Sky Domain Sect emerged, led by a man named Yuan Menhai. Even though this sect had not been around for long, it had rapidly expanded and its forces were no lesser than those of the three Kings.
A man declared, “I think it’s better to join the Sky Domain Sect, it’s more promising.”
Another person heard his words and said, “The Sky Domain Sect has plenty of talents, they don’t need you. It would be better to join either the Sea King or the Earth King. They’ve been constantly recruiting new disciples to strengthen their forces.”
“Well, I think they’ll just end up fighting amongst themselves, those two big sweet potatoes won’t achieve much.”
“Whatever their internal strife, they’re still people of the Third Demon, and their strength is undeniable.”
Someone else added, “They all want to become the new Alliance Leader. If they succeed, they will lead the three sects, something the Sky Domain Sect can’t compete with.”
Yet another person scoffed, “I still prefer the Sky Domain Sect.”
“Yes, the ascent of the Sky Domain Sect indeed is quite fast, taking advantage of both Kings’ infighting, and the Heavenly King neglecting affairs. That’s how they expanded so fast. Now there even are bandits; something that would have been unheard of in the past, now they are not even being dealt with.”
Another person proposed, “I think the Heavenly King should give up his position as the Alliance Leader and choose one among the Sea King and Earth King. He can’t manage matters on his own anymore, he should just hand over his position to someone else. Why does he want to cling on to it so desperately?”
“No, maybe he doesn’t want to cling on to his position, but rather, he’s afraid. Both the Sea King Zun Yu and Earth King Gua Zhengnie think they have what it takes to be the new Alliance Leader. If the Heavenly King gives up his position, it could stir up chaos. They were never on good terms and perhaps Wei Sisan considered this and decided to hold on to the position for the sake of stability.”
“Either way, I think if this transition isn’t handled properly, the entire Wastelands will descend into chaos.”
“Maybe it won’t be that severe, we might just be overthinking it.”
Ye Chen was standing to the side, seriously listening to their conversation. He curiously asked, “Then, between the Sea King and Earth King, who is stronger?”
“It’s hard to say, the difference isn’t significant.”
“Can the Heavenly King suppress them?” Ye Chen asked again, curiosity brimming in his eyes.
“Definitely not, if he could, the Third Demon wouldn’t have split into three Kings. The Third Demon exists in name only now.”
Someone curiously asked, “If it only exists in name, why then is there a struggle for the position of the Alliance Leader?”
“People of the Wastelands still significantly recognize the Third Demon, after all, for all these years, it’s always been people from the Third Demon controlling the Wastelands. Although the Sky Domain Sect has emerged now, it still falls under the awe-inspiring force of the Third Demon’s glory from the past.”
An old man said, “In my opinion, it’s hard to say what will happen in this period. If a new Alliance Leader cannot be established, there might be a big commotion, or perhaps not.”
“Chaos would be good, it would give us a chance to shine.”
To this, a man responded with a cold laugh, “Don’t lose your life in the process.”
The crowd burst into laughter at his words.
Yu Yun returned to the Demon Palace. That day, her sister came to pick her up. Yu Qing spoke, “You’ve got us worried sick, you silly girl.”
Yu Yun approached, didn’t mention anything else and directly asked, “Sister, do you know a boy named Ye Chen?”
Yu Qing was taken aback, not knowing how this little imp could know about Ye Chen, she asked, “How did you learn about Ye Chen?”
“Do you like him?” she asked.
“Imp, what are you trying to say?”
“I like him.”
Yu Qing knew that this little imp liked to tease her, she didn’t think much of it and said, “So, you really know Ye Chen.” Otherwise, why would she suddenly bring him up.
“Indeed, I met him this time on the ship?”
“You met him, Ye Chen?”
“Yes, he said he knows you and that you really like him, I didn’t believe him at first, thought he was boasting, but later on, he said that he had stayed in Immortal City and knew a lot about you, then I started to believe him a little.”
“Where is he now?” Yu Qing asked anxiously.
“He ran away with the Red Demonic Spirit.” Guo Yuyun said coldly.
“The Red Demonic Spirit is with him.”
“Yes, I really wanted to bring him back, but he absolutely refused to come back with me and ran off, saying he didn’t want to become a pretty boy.”
“He ran off, where else could he go?”
“I don’t know, but he sure doesn’t want to be involved with any of us from the Immortal and Demon World.”
“Tell me more about how you met him and what exactly happened.”
“It seems that sister really does like him.” She noticed that her sister was getting somewhat anxious.
“Imp, can you stop playing jokes on your sister please.”
“Seems like you are more worried about him than me.”
“Yun’er, I do worry about you.”
“Then tell me, what’s the nature of your relationship with Ye Chen. Are you two secretly engaged?”
Listening to her embarrassingly, Yu Qing caught up with her and said, “What nonsense are you talking, imp? How can we be secretly engaged?”
“So, you don’t like him. If you don’t, I’ll go after him.”
“You two met at Earth Demon Island?”
“Yes.”
“Then how did he end up in Earth Demon Island?”
Yu Yun replied., “He said he was tricked there by a well-meaning dromedary, then he lost consciousness and somehow ended up on the same ship as me.”
“Then, how did he get possessed by the Red Demonic Spirit?”
Yu Yun said, “He was a good person, he got possessed by the Red Demonic Spirit to save me.”

“Didn’t the Red Demonic Spirit drain him?”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought too, but it seems like he was working with the Red Demonic Spirit.”
“Where is he now?”
“I don’t know, he ran off again. We found him at his old home, but he gave us the slip again. I don’t know where he’s gone now, but he must be in hiding. He doesn’t like Immortal City, considering what happened there, I doubt he would go back.”
“So, you also know what happened to him in Immortal City?”
“Yes, it’s not hard to figure out.”
“What else has he told you?”
“Why don’t you tell me, what’s really going on between you and him?”
“What’s going on between us?”
“Pretending again, huh?” Yu Yun said.
“Let’s go back quickly, Mother’s waiting for you,” Yu Qing informed her.
“I didn’t see her coming to pick me up.”
“Can you show a bit of conscience, she’s the one who loves you the most. She has been so worried these past few days.”
“I get it, I’ll go see her now, I suppose that’s satisfactory.”
“I’ve prepared something for you to eat.”
“I’ll eat when I come back from visiting, I want to have a good chat with you about what happened at the cliff cave.” Yu Yun then left.
