Chapter 19 - The Little Maid's Lap Promotion

The Little Maid's Lap Promotion

The sun's golden light seeped through the study, lighting motes of dust that floated lazily in the still air.

Orion moved farther into the room, the door clicking softly shut behind him. Aria raised her head from the parchment, her slender fingers still holding the edges as her violet eyes, widened, locked with his.

He smiled.

Not the smile of a lord, not that of a warrior.

But the kind of smile that promised trouble—teasing, dangerous, irresistible.

"You're always so diligent, little maid."

Aria blushed, her breath hitching slightly. "I-I... just doing my duty, Lord Orion..."

She didn't step away as he approached. Her gaze lowered shyly, but her body remained rooted to the spot. She had grown used to his presence—perhaps even longed for it.

Orion halted inches before her, their bodies inches from one another. His hand extended slowly, intently, caressing a lock of hair from her cheek. "You resemble someone who's going to flee again."

"I—I'm not," she breathed, even as her hands quivered ever so slightly. Her pulse was racing, her flush deepening.

He inched forward, his lips tracing the curve of her ear. "Liar."

She could not reply before he kissed her—tenderly at first, then harder.

Her lips shuddered at his touch, but she did not move away.

She never did.

Her fingers clutched his robe as the kiss grew hotter, their lips parting just a little. His tongue slid in—soft, teasing, then insistent—searching for hers in a dance of control. She responded uncertainly, shy yet hungry, their tongues winding, probing, tasting.

A low rumble emanated from her throat, her knees growing weak.

Orion's fingers moved down to her waist, holding her broad hips. He squeezed lightly, then rubbed, feeling the warmth that came from her skin. She trembled against him, her breathing interrupting the kiss for a moment.

"Haa. Lord Orion..."

He leaned into her, panting like her, a slight smile on his lips. "You blush so easily. So soft. So warm. I wonder if I might just bend you over my desk right now."

"Ah—!" Her entire body shocked, her face turning red.

She stepped back, obviously trying to get away, but his arms closed around her waist, holding her in place.

"Don't run," he breathed, rubbing his face against her neck. "You always attempt it, but you never actually want to."

"I-I don't know what to say..." she whispered, lashes flickering.

"Then don't say anything. Just sense."

But her hands held firm against his chest, not in denial, but with intent. "L-Lord Orion... I must report something of significance."

He blinked, relaxing his grip enough for her to be able to speak.

"Yes, little maid?"

She glanced down, mustering courage. "Lord Darin visited yesterday. I... I attempted to inform you, but..." Her face turned beet red, obviously remembering the passionate sounds that had prevented her from entering his chambers.

Orion leaned his head to one side, his smile softening a little. "So?"

"He informed me... there is a suspicious group roaming around the outer ruins of the city. They have been seen near the ancient site east of Moonspire."

That caused him to hesitate.

His brow knit, ruminating over memories of his earlier life. The ruins of the east—he recalled their fallen stone spires and broken archways, but none of significance. Only old structures from a bygone era, lost to age.

"I don't remember anything important..." he grumbled, releasing his grip and facing away from his desk. He settled into the chair with a considering sigh.

At his back, Aria waited silently, still a bit pink.

But her face changed—there was a hint of disappointment on her features, as though something had been removed from her.

Orion saw.

"You wish to summon Darin here?" he said, his voice steady.

"Yes, Lord." She nodded, attempting to suppress her tone.

He shook his head. "No."

Aria's eyes flashed with doubt. "Then, my lord, what should I—"

He reached out and took her hand, offering a gentle pressure.

Before she could struggle, he drew her onto his lap.

She emitted a shocked gasp, her body stiffening. His hands shifted her position, her soft body seated sideways against him. Her breath caught, her chest rising and falling quickly.

"Now that's better," Orion whispered.

"L-Lord Orion!" she gasped, attempting to rise, but he held her firm, one hand on her waist, the other wrapping around her back.

"Where are you going, little maid?" he teased, voice low and playful.

"M-M-My position... if someone comes—if they see—!"

She gazed up at him, eyes glinting with nervous uncertainty and something more. Want. Desire. She didn't want to go... she just needed an excuse.

"My position... being seen here like this..." she breathed, blush coloring her cheeks. "It would be... improper..."

Orion leaned in, his breath hot against her lips. "I think this is the most proper position for you."

Her lips parted, eyes wide, but no words escaped.

He cradled her face in his hands and kissed her again—slow and deep.

It wasn't starved.

It was claiming.

She dissolved into it, letting her body unfold in his. Her lips shifted with his, slow and languid. Her tongue hesitated to meet his once more, and he enfolded her, guiding her, tasting her.

When finally they broke apart, both of them panting, Orion gazed into dazed eyes and whispered:

"I feel comfortable and good when you're here. So from now on... I'll change your position."

She blinked.

"From my side... to my lap."

Her blush deepened, hands clutching his robe. "Lord Orion... that's..."

"That's final," he said, grinning. "Now, sit still. I'm not done enjoying this."
