Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Everyone Starts to Slack Off

Li Sulan instantly became unhappy when she heard Sang Ning say that.

"Sang Ning, you’re not allowed to slack off! It’s your family’s debt; why do you get to start resting?"

Sang Ning glanced at Li Sulan: "Because I’m tired, and I just want to rest. Is that not allowed?"

"Not allowed!" Li Sulan shouted, "Didn’t that Sun guy say it? Your family’s debt to the production team has already become a shared group liability. Can you not drag down Xiao Xi and me? Pay back your debt yourself, alright?"

"Well, that’s just splendid!" Sang Ning clapped her hands like a seal, "One more person means one more effort. Thank you for joining in to contribute to this collective!"

Li Sulan felt suffocated, her face covered in a "Are you kidding me?" expression.

"No way! You and your brother have been slacking off for this long already. Next hour, it’s your turn to perform!"

"Perform my ass!" Hu Zhi stood by the large scale, pointing rudely at a basket full of yellow peaches.

"Take a look! You and Chu Xi only picked this much, at most 20 pounds. Who exactly is the one slacking here?"

Hearing someone call her out, Chu Xi, who’d been lazing under a tree, quickly pulled down her sunhat to cover her face.

She admitted she was slacking off. Picking peaches with her hands up and down was exhausting. Out of that 20 pounds, she probably contributed at least 15 pounds herself, while her dainty mom only managed to pick 5 pounds.

Li Sulan tilted her face at a 45-degree angle to the sky, scoffed, and acted like she didn’t hear Hu Zhi’s remarks as she continued venting her frustrations.

"I don’t care. Since Sang Ning said we’re a collective, for the next hour, everyone must put in the work. No one is allowed to slack off!"

She didn’t want to owe the production team so much money. The more peaches they could pick, the better. After all, the Sang Family had three members, so they’d shoulder most of the workload. Meanwhile, she could just feign picking a few for show.

"Nope, we’re a collective. For the next hour, we’re collectively slacking off. Nobody will shortchange anyone," Sang Ning said with an entirely serious expression.

[Li Sulan: When I want to give up, you insist I hustle. When I want to hustle, you force me to give up. Can we get it together?]

[I’ve figured it out. Li Sulan and Sang Ning are totally incompatible. Whatever Sulan doesn’t want to do, Sang Ning insists she do.]

The situation didn’t develop as the production team expected. While several people argued, Director Sun hurriedly interjected to remind them.

"Mr. Sang, I must remind you again. If your team doesn’t repay the debt owed to the production team today, it will double tomorrow. Four days later, we’ll arrange punishments based on your debt status. And let me tell you, the punishments are extremely scary, so don’t take this lightly."

"It’s only the first day. I’m not worried; what are you so anxious about?" Sang Ning replied calmly to Director Sun, "A debt is a debt. As long as it’s paid off on the last day, isn’t that enough?"

[Director Sun, can you have more self-awareness? When has Sang Ning ever taken your words seriously?]

[Director Sun: Should I just leave? You can have my director’s seat instead.]

"Mom, Xiao Chuan, help me carry these peaches to the pickup truck."

Sang Ning said as she walked over to the large scale and grabbed two baskets of yellow peaches, heading forward.

Sang Chuan and Hu Zhi didn’t know what she was up to, but they still picked up the remaining peaches and followed her to the pickup truck.

Li Sulan saw the trio walking off with the peaches and quickly asked, "The peaches aren’t all picked yet. Where are you planning to go?"

Sang Ning looked up at the sky and replied, "While it’s still early, we’re driving the pickup truck to sell peaches."

Director Sun sensed something was wrong and hurriedly stepped forward to block Sang Ning’s path. "Sell peaches? Where exactly do you plan to sell them?"

"To the city, of course. You won’t let us do livestreaming to sell, and with Yuan Village being full of yellow peaches, no one would buy them here even if we begged. So we’re going to the city," Sang Ning replied nonchalantly, then resumed moving forward with the yellow peaches.

Director Sun thought her explanation made sense. But the thing was, he never intended for them to actually sell the peaches in the first place!

Upon hearing Sang Ning was taking the pickup truck to sell peaches, Song Shiye ran off to discuss plans with Qin Kai.

"Brother Kai, how about we also let Sister Sangsang take the peaches our group picked to the city to sell?"

Qin Kai then consulted with Qin Jiaxiang, who agreed it was a good idea. They’d picked so many peaches, but trying to sell them in the village probably wouldn’t work.

The pickup truck couldn’t fit everyone. At most, they’d send one person from their group to tag along with Sang Ning to lend a hand.

Thus, they followed the Sang Family and carried their group’s peaches over to the pickup truck.

"Xiao Sang, we’ll entrust our group’s peaches to you. You don’t mind helping us sell them, do you?" Qin Jiaxiang asked Sang Ning, smiling ear to ear.

Qin Jiaxiang was the first to load a basket of peaches onto the truck. Qin Kai and Song Shiye immediately followed, adding four more baskets.

Sang Ning twitched the corner of her mouth. These three didn’t even ask before piling the peaches onto the truck, and then asked if she minded. Wasn’t it a bit late for that?

Thinking about it, she still replied, "I don’t mind." After all, the pickup truck had plenty of space. However, whether their group could repay their debt to the production team today, that wasn’t her problem.

Chuyun saw Song Shiye and Qin Kai’s group handing their peaches over to Sang Ning, and she too was tempted. She quickly ran to ask Shen Yi for his opinion.

"Xiao Shen, Director Qin’s group just handed their peaches to Sang Ning. Shouldn’t we do the same with ours?"

Chuyun also thought selling peaches in the village was tough. Since Sang Ning knew how to drive the pickup truck, it’d be better to let her pave the way for them all.

Shen Yi was the main contributor in their group when it came to picking peaches. As long as he agreed, it was a done deal.

"Whatever, I’m good either way." Shen Yi remained as aloof as ever, with a casual air about him.

"Then what are we waiting for? While Sang Ning hasn’t left yet, let’s quickly load our peaches up!"

Chuyun said to Shen Yi, then turned to call out to Chu Wei, "Sweetie, come help us carry the peaches over to Sang Ning."

Director Sun saw all the guests loading up their peaches onto Sang Ning’s truck and immediately flung himself in front of them, spreading his arms to block them.

"Wait! Sang Ning slacking off is one thing. Now you all want to follow suit? The goal was to pick 400 pounds today, and the task isn’t complete yet. If you don’t finish the task or repay the debt, you’ll all be punished!"

Shen Yi shrugged indifferently: "Even if we didn’t slack off, we wouldn’t complete the task. Might as well slack off together. If we’re punished, at least it’s as a group. No loss there."

[Haha, this truly is the spirit of family—stick together, no matter what.]

[Director Sun wanted the guests to compete and strive harder, but they’re all about unity and collective rebellion instead.]

Shen Yi carried his basket of peaches and dodged around Director Sun. Meanwhile, Chu Wei was dragging a basket of overly heavy peaches, too exasperated to dodge. She bumped Director Sun’s arm out of the way and snapped, "Director Sun, please step aside. Don’t block the path, alright? These peaches are so heavy, I’m dying here!"
