Chapter 83: Chapter 83 Redefining the Family

Director Sun saw that everyone was okay and finally let out a sigh of relief. Worried about causing a blockage in the cabin, he quickly directed the guests to disembark in an orderly manner.

Outside the airport, the bus arranged by the program team in advance was already waiting at the entrance. The guests got on the bus and headed to the next location.

[I’ve heard of military-style tourism, but I’ve never heard of military-style filming a show. Is Director Sun rushing the guests to reincarnate or what? So hurried.]

[If this happens again, I swear I’m going to send knives to the program team. Can’t they show some care to elders like Grandma Song?]

[Honestly, I think the one who needs care is Sang Ning, not Grandma Song. Grandma Song seems full of energy the whole time—her spirit and vigor totally crush the other guests. Meanwhile, Sang Ning looks like she hasn’t had a good night’s sleep in her life and falls asleep whenever she gets the chance.]

When the bus started, the sky was still dim and dark.

Director Sun, still rattled by Sang Ning’s earlier scare, saw the irritated looks on the guests’ faces and quickly began to console them.

"I genuinely apologize to everyone. The program team didn’t expect you to complete the task early, and this was the only flight available when we booked. I promise this will be the only time. Next time we change locations, we’ll make sure you’re well-rested before departing."

"Additionally, our destination this time is Anazhen. From the airport, it’s about a three-and-a-half-hour ride, estimated to arrive around 8:30 a.m. Feel free to rest a bit on the bus."

Director Sun was shouting this through a loudspeaker in the bus cabin, but no one paid him any attention.

Li Sulan snapped impatiently, "Enough! Shut up already! Stop disturbing my sleep!"

Director Sun pouted, obediently put the loudspeaker away, and stayed quiet.

After driving dozens of kilometers out of the airport, the bus entered a winding mountain road. Though the ride was bumpy, Sang Ning surprisingly fell into a deep and sweet sleep.

When Director Sun finally called everyone off the bus, she felt like her entire body had been revitalized from the inside out.

The bus stopped at the foot of a mountain. Looking ahead, there were sprawling fields stretching far and wide; looking up, there were towering peaks that seemed to pierce the clouds.

After getting off the bus, the guests collectively raised their heads toward the mountain top. With an incredulous expression, Sang Chuan stared at Director Sun and asked, "Director Sun, what kind of nonsense are you planning this time? Don’t tell me you want us to do wilderness survival or something?"

Sang Chuan’s words pulled everyone’s attention back to Director Sun, who cleared his throat and began introducing the filming location for the day.

"Dear guests, the path leading from the foot of the mountain to the summit will take you to today’s destination—Anazhen.

Anazhen is located at the top of Luoqun Mountain and is an important astronomical research base in China, earning the reputation of the nation’s ’first astronomical town.’

The theme of this second episode is to explore the mysteries and romance of astronomy. We hope more viewers will discover and fall in love with this fascinating town and help boost its tourism industry!"

Director Sun delivered his speech with rousing enthusiasm, only for Sang Chuan to splash cold water on it: "Cut the crap, Director Sun. Why don’t you first tell us how we’re supposed to get up there?"

"The road is right in front of you. Obviously, you walk!" Director Sun replied as if it were the most natural thing in the world, pointing to the mountain trail.

Sang Chuan clenched his fist and raised it as if to threaten Director Sun. "It’s so high—how about you walk up there and show me first? Don’t forget we have Grandma Song with us. Are you trying to kill her by making her walk up a mountain like this?"

"That’s none of your concern," Director Sun retorted dismissively, letting out a cold scoff. "Considering the unique terrain of Anazhen and the fact that Grandma Song isn’t as spry anymore, we hereby officially invite Grandma Song to join the program’s logistics team. She’ll be responsible for managing the guests’ living expenses and won’t be trekking along with you."

"No way!" Song Shiye raised his hand to interrupt Director Sun. "If you recruit my grandma to the logistics team, then what about me?"

"Don’t worry," Director Sun quickly motioned for Song Shiye to lower his hand. "The program team will immediately assign you a new guardian."

At that moment, staff members brought out a box for drawing lots, and Director Sun continued explaining.

"Excluding Grandma Song, there are currently six parents and seven children. Next, the program team will restructure the families and divide everyone into six new family groups. Parents and children who draw balls of the same color will automatically form a new family. Over the coming days, you’ll complete the tasks assigned by the program team as a family unit."

Sang Ning raised a question about this. "What if we draw lots and still end up grouped with our own parents?"

"Well, that depends on your luck! If you manage to draw the same color as your parents, you’re clearly your mom and dad’s Chosen One!"

Director Sun chuckled as he spoke. "With Grandma Song now part of the logistics team, either your dad or your mom will inevitably fill her spot. No matter how you draw, you can’t end up in the same group with both of your parents simultaneously."

"Oh, Director Sun, thank you so much," Hu Zhi quipped, jumping in to tease. "I’ve spent half my life wishing I could be rid of my partner. The program team finally fulfilled my dream—I get to separate households, even if it’s just temporary!"

Hu Zhi’s remark triggered a round of laughter from the guests. Mr. Shen noticed the pitiful expression on Sang Youming’s face and patted his shoulder in sympathy, saying, "Brother, let’s face it—our household leaders have been dissing us for ages. It’s just a show; don’t overthink it."

After the guests finished drawing lots, Director Sun began announcing the results.

"The members of the first new family are: Chuyun, Sang Chuan, and Chu Wei."

Chu Wei, thrilled, hugged Chuyun tightly and rubbed her face against her. "Mom, this is amazing! I guess I really am your Chosen One, staying together even after the redraw."

While the two were hugging, Sang Chuan walked up to them and interjected, "Mom, Sis, nice to meet you both—I’m joining your group."

Chuyun: "..."

Chu Wei: "..."

[??? Sang Chuan adapted way too fast—is he already calling her Mom?]

[Sang Chuan: A son is a son; calling someone else Mom makes no difference.]

"The members of the second new family are: Mr. Shen and Chu Xi."

Chu Xi looked regretful and hugged Li Sulan tightly. "I’m really sorry, Mom. I didn’t want to separate from you either, but the program rules are what they are—I have no choice but to follow them."

Though Chu Xi looked sad on the surface, she was grinning wildly inside.

Teaming with Mr. Shen meant she’d have the perfect chance to learn more about Shen Yi. Plus, she could win Mr. Shen’s favor and transform him into an ally!

[Can Chu Xi control the corners of her mouth while pretending to be upset? I think she’s about to burst out laughing.]

[I used to think her bond with her mom was pretty deep, but now it seems like pure plastic parent-child affection.]

Li Sulan felt a little sad about not being grouped with Chu Xi. But amidst her sorrow, there was a hint of relief—and even a glimmer of anticipation.

She was relieved not to be matched with the troublemaker Sang Chuan, but she couldn’t help but wonder... could she end up joining Sang Ning’s group?
