Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon's Might-Chapter 34 - Major Discovery
34: Chapter 34 Major Discovery
34 -34 Major Discovery
Leon swung the three-headed flail a few times in the air, finding it extremely awkward to use and feeling it was worlds apart from wielding a sword.
This was not surprising, as a dragon’s forelimbs were not suited for grasping, and although they could hold objects, they were far from precise enough to wield weapons like swords.
The reason he could wield a sword was because the Sword Control Technique gave him proficiency with all kinds of swords, but he had no such expertise with axes, hammers, or anything of the sort.
Continuing to fiddle with the three-headed flail, Leon suddenly began to wonder whether this was a weapon bestowed by the Demon Lord Yenogu to the cultists, and whether Yenogu could potentially communicate with him through the flail, promising him great power on the condition of pledging faith to him.
After some thought, he decided Yenogu wouldn’t do such a foolish thing.
Knowing the temperament of a Red Dragon, even if the Evil Dragon Queen Tiamat herself treated him with disdain, he believed that one day, when the time was right, he too would become equally powerful, and he would never submit to a mere Demon Lord.
Putting away the three-headed flail, Leon began searching for loot.
He found a purse on a cultist’s body but nothing else on the other Gnolls, including Yenogu Poison Fang…
Of course, he disregarded the chipped daggers and pitchforks that, even though they might fetch a few coins if sold, were of no interest to him.
He had never considered that hyena ears might be used in alchemy, but even if he had known, he likely wouldn’t have cared, as he did not practice alchemy.
This goes to show that one should not misuse Samadhi True Fire; otherwise, there won’t be any loot to collect.
In any case, after searching for loot, Leon had lost any interest in soaking in the water.
Holding the three-headed flail and purse in his mouth and grabbing his sword, he flapped his wings and flew back to his lair.
Back in his lair, Leon placed the three-headed flail and the purse into a box, alongside the loot scavenged from the Annis Hag, and for some reason, he wasn’t a bit tired.
For a normal dragon, the desire to establish a hoard is a psychological drive, and it can even be considered a biological one, much like hunger.
It’s like when Dragon Sister found a silver coin and immediately created her hoard, occasionally bragging about it in front of Leon but never inviting him to visit, and being very secretive about the location of her treasury.
Leon had never been conscious of that, and paid no attention to building a hoard, but today, after getting the three-headed flail, an unusual thought of establishing his own hoard occurred to him.
It was hard not to admit it was influenced by his body, just like how humans are slaves to their hormones.
Without hesitation, Leon got to work, but since the cave was mostly rock on three sides, and he lacked any spell that could turn stone to mud, he struggled a while before he could carve out a small room.
Leon put the box into the small room, set the three-headed flail in place, lined up several jars and vials of unclear purpose, and scattered all the gold coins, silver coins, and copper coins in his sleeping area.
Having done all this, Leon looked at his hoard with satisfaction.
It was at this moment, after several years, he heard a familiar ding-dong sound and almost forgot what that sound meant.
“Shiny Treasure—Acquire a valuable Magic Item or work of art to establish one’s own hoard.”
Disregarding the useless things.
“Regular Reward: Heavenly Eye Technique.”
Leon jumped up.
Heavenly Eye Technique, that sounded like a familiar spell; Leon thought of the folk tales from before he crossed over to this world, where it was said that one could see ghosts by rubbing cow’s tears on their eyes.
So, did this spell allow one to see through invisibility?
Leon couldn’t wait to try it out.
First, he squinted his eyes, then extended a claw to swipe in front of them, and when he reopened his eyes, he looked around but saw no different from the usual world.
Maybe it was because there were no ghosts or spiritual creatures around, or any invisible entities, so naturally, he couldn’t see anything.
He didn’t know where there was a cemetery with ghosts wandering around.
Although he was sure that after activating the Heavenly Eye Technique, he could see ghosts and see through invisibility, he wanted to prove it through actual evidence.
Blinking his eyes, Leon saw a circle of black mist seemingly swirling around the Three-headed flail.
So, the Heavenly Eye Technique can not only see through invisibility but also detect magic?
Like a Spell detection of magic, it allows one to sense the existence of all magic within a certain range, the faint Magic Spirit around a creature or object, and incidentally understand the type and strength of that Magic Spirit.
Leon planned to stroll around with the Heavenly Eye Technique activated, but then he thought that now it was broad daylight, it might be better to take a nap and go out at night, when definitely many demons, ghosts, and monsters would be out.
Leon lay down again, wildly guessing what the deal was with his Golden Finger and if there was any pattern to the appearance of rewards.
The first reward from the Golden Finger was the Breathing Skill, which he got after eating a ton of food.
The second reward from the Golden Finger was the Sword Control Technique, which he got after building a nest.

Then the third reward came after he fought and defeated Dragon Sister; he obtained a quite practical Control Magic, the immobilization spell.
The fourth reward was obtained after he killed a certain adventurer…
Leon suddenly stood up, he remembered in DND settings, a dragon’s life can be divided into four stages, during the baby dragon to teenage dragon stage, the goals include—
Finding a good spot for the first independent lair.
Establishing dominance over the other dragon siblings in the same brood.
Acquiring a valuable Magic Item or artwork to start one’s own hoard.
Now that he thought about it, every time he received a reward, it seemed to coincide with those goals.
Does it mean that to receive rewards, he must complete the various goals a normal Red Dragon has from baby dragon to Ancient Dragon?
As for the fact that he has a Red Dragon’s body but his soul is that of a son or daughter of China, and rewards change every time, that’s a different matter altogether.
Leon got excited all at once, then remembered he was not a DND enthusiast.
He hadn’t read the entire setting book.
Although he had read some parts sporadically, with several different versions having different settings, it was often hard to distinguish, and he liked to mix up official settings with private novel settings…
Otherwise, he would not have made so many jokes at the beginning.
In his memory, the setting book also specifically emphasized that a dragon’s goals are formed by many other factors, including allies, aspirations, bonds, and flaws, and every dragon is different.
Thinking this, Leon suddenly became a little down, but soon cheered up again because he knew that dragons definitely have goals like acquiring minions and servants.
Now as long as he turned back to those Kobolds he had encountered before, if he took them in as minions, he could definitely obtain a new reward, or at least prove whether his guess was right or wrong.
The problem now was that he had refused those Kobolds countless times, and there’s a saying, “a good horse doesn’t eat the grass behind it.”
Leon only cared about his own dignity and never considered how eagerly those Kobolds were looking forward to it.
