The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter-Chapter 1023: SIDE STORY (WILL): I AM GLAD YOU ARE HERE
Chapter 1023: SIDE STORY (WILL): I AM GLAD YOU ARE HERE
"Jace!" Penny screamed when the beast managed to get to him and threw him to the ground. Out of instinct, Penny wanted to approach him, though it was also a dangerous thing for her to do, since she couldn’t help the beta in any form.
However, she was desperate. There was no way that he would be able to sit her and do nothing when Jace was in danger.
But, as if the beta knew her intention, he took the monster away from her, the brick color beast actually lured the monster into the mountain. He took the fight further away from Penny.
"Damn it!" Penny cursed under her breath. Why would they be attacked by a monster at time like this? She had come to this part of the mountain countless times, but she had never encountered one.
Her luck must be running so low at this moment.
Penny wanted to leave and ask for help, but her leg wouldn’t allow her to do so, she must have twisted her ankle in her attempt to get away from the beast, because right now, a simple move from her leg would send her an excruciating pain. This was almost unbearable.
However, she couldn’t stay here like this. Penny looked around her and saw a big branch that she could use as a support.
The healer then crawled toward the branch and got it to help her to walk, but still the pain filled her eyes with tears.
It was quite an irony that a healer couldn’t heal themselves and had to rely on the other healer to do so.
Penny didn’t walk far when the branch snapped and she twisted her ankle even more. She bit her lip so she wouldn’t scream in pain, because she didn’t know whether there would be more monsters that would come here or not.
Her heart was thumping wildly and her ears were ringing, but the only thing that was in her mind right now was Jace.
She needed to get some help before something really bad happened to the beta. More so, he still needed his treatment because of his previous injury.
Bracing with the pain, Penny tried to stand up, but it was hard to do, thus she resulted to crawl. She didn’t know how long she would find the nearest warrior, but this was the only thing that she could do to help Jace.
Time flew by very slow and when there was no sign that Jace had returned and tracked her down, she cried out of frustration.
Penny wanted to move faster, but her body didn’t allow her to do so. Now, the pain was not the problem.
However, when she thought she was losing it, she heard a footstep and this comforting voice called her name.
"Penny!? Are you, okay?!" Jace immediately approached her and knelt down to check on her. "Are you hurt?"
The beta immediately gave a brief check up on her body until he found her injured leg. He clicked his tongue in annoyance and immediately focused on it.
"If your leg injured, you shouldn’t move. I lured the monster away, why would you need to go this far?" Jace could feel that Penny broke her bone and this upset him, because by crawling this far, it only aggravated her wound.
"I tried to look for help, because I couldn’t help you," Penny replied truthfully, she wiped her tears that kept streaming down her cheek. She felt this sense of relief and didn’t think much about her broken leg, because she was already very grateful that Jace was not injured.
It was not only the beta, who checked on her, but Penny did the same to him.
"Come, hop on." Jace crouched down in front of Penny and gave his back to her.
"But..."
"Do you want to crawl to get back to the palace?" Jace asked impatiently.
He was right, but the problem was, Penny felt this was inappropriate for her to do this. She felt... embarrassed.
"Come on, it’s getting dark."
Leaving with no other choice, Penny immediately got on Jace’s back and hugged his neck. It felt... weird, but not in the bad way.
"Next time, bring warrior with you."
This time, Jace didn’t say it nicely, it almost like a warning for her.
"Yes, I understood," Penny replied. After what happened, she would listen to his suggestion. "Thank you. I am glad you are here with me."
Jace nodded, but he didn’t say anything. He was also glad that he came here to fetch her, or else, he couldn’t think what would happen to her.
And the thought of it filled him with anger.
"Let’s go back to the palace first," he said.
He had Penny on his back and the two of them looked in a mess, of course, all the people that saw them started to ask question about what was going on.
"Monster attack.’
That was the only answer that the bet gave to those people, who were curious about what was going on.
After that the two of them went into Penny’s study room, where Ania had been waiting for them, but the girl didn’t expect this at all. ƒreewebɳovel.com
"What happened?! What happened to her?!" Ania looked worried, while Jace put Penny down to the bed.
"You need to help to clean up her wound and she got her ankle twisted," Jace said to Ania. He gave the same answer like he gave to the other warriors.
"Okay, okay, I will do it," Ania said in panic.
And after gave some instruction to the young girl, Jace turned around and was about to leave.
"Where are you going? You have not yet gotten your treatment," Penny said, stopping the beta from leaving.
"Forget about it, you need to get your treatment first," Jace said. "We can do it next time. I need to inform this to the other warriors. Take some rest."
The beta didn’t look angry, but his calmness was concerning.
After that, Jace left the room and Ania started with her treatment on Penny’s leg. She also concocted a medicine for her.
The girl looked very sad.
"Don’t cry. I am fine." Penny put down the empty bowl of medicine and caressed her head. "I should have scolded you for sending Jace to the mountain and forget about what I told you to do, but I think I should thank you instead."
Ania wiped her tears. "The beta is right, you are very reckless, you should have brought some warriors with you if you wanted to go to the mountain."
This time, Penny didn’t argue. "Yes. I will listen next time."
After that, Penny fell asleep in the bed in her study room and Ania didn’t want to wake her up, thus she put a blanket to cover her body.
But, later on in the evening, Jace came to visit and find Penny was still there.
"How is she?"
"I think she will not be able to roam around for a few days until her bone is fixed."
The beta nodded. "You can leave, I will stay here to take care of her."
Ania wanted to refuse and tell him that she would stay, but on the second thought, there was this mischievous smile on the corner of her lips and then she nodded.
"Okay. Please, take care of her," she said rather cheerfully and then dashed out of the room, as if her tail was on fire.
Jace indeed stayed the night to look after Penny. He actually brought a few documents that he had to check and used Penny’s table to work.
Only when the first ray of light filtered through the window, the healer finally woke up and found the beta on her desk.
"What are you doing here?" Penny asked, she immediately became self aware because she just woke up.
"Ania left you to me." Jace stood up and stretched his body. "She told me to look after you."
Penny frowned. "You can just leave me here you know. It’s not like a monster will be able to sneak into the palace." She could feel her blushing when he saw Jace was on a simple shirt and pants, he looked homey and relax.
"Yeah, you are right." Jace agreed without another argumentation. "Let’s have something to eat," he said. "What do you want to eat? I will get it for you from the dining hall."
"It’s okay. Ania will be here shortly. I will ask her."
"I am already here, why would you need to ask for Ania?"
Penny widened her eyes and pushed herself into a sitting position, which made her winced a little because the pain on her legs was a bother. "Are you taking care of me?"
"Isn’t it very obvious?" Jace replied, which made Penny bit her lip. "What do you want to eat?"
"Something spicy."
"Okay."
Jace then stepped out for a while to get the food that she wanted and they had their breakfast together.
Meanwhile, out there the sky started to turn gloomy and the rain started to pouring down, the smell of it was very refreshing.
"This must be the first rain this year," Penny stated. She stared at the beautiful pattern that the rain left on the window.
"Yes." Jace nodded.
"A lot of things have changed in the capital city and I found that I am glad that I am here and to be part of the people."
Jace smiled softly. He agreed with her too. "I am also glad that you are here to be with us."
