"So, do you like it?" Alanis finally asked the question he had been meaning to ask. He knew she couldn’t deny her feelings this time because he could see in her eyes that she loved it so much.

"No." Came Harlow’s nonchalant words.

"No?" He repeated surprised at her words. He had put more than enough money, days of sweat, and pain into this only for her to reject it. He should be angry, but he wasn’t. He would do anything to please this woman before him.

"You still have until after grandma’s party to change your mind and then after, I’ll sell it off." He said calmly and she finally met his gaze, her green eyes staring into those black ones. And then slowly, a smile crept up her lips.

"I think my answer would remain the same even after three days."

Harlow didn’t care if he spent money building this mansion, she cared less about his feelings. Though she loved it, but she couldn’t see herself living here. She refuses to be tempted. She couldn’t forget her revenge which is making life a living hell for both Garth and her children.

She’ll do back everything they did to her. She would make them pay dearly for hurting her in the past.

"What about the mansion do you not like? We can make changes to your liking." Alanis said. He thought he did everything right, he thought he had finally pleased her. But it seems not.

"Everything." She said.

"If you can change everything again in three days, then I might consider living here with you." Harlow knew that was impossible. Alanis isn’t all that wealthy to refurnish this large mansion. Telling him to change everything is like trying to dry out the specific ocean. Which was humanly impossible.

"If I do it, you wouldn’t have to say no anymore right?" She nodded with confidence. This was truly amusing, seeing this man make his family poor because he’s trying to please her.

"Alright." Alanis stretched his hands again, but Harlow didn’t take them this time, she rather walked past him. Alanis smiled and followed closely behind her.

The drive back home was long and Alanis felt so bored. So, he decided to tease his wife a little. He stared at the woman whose gaze was on the streets as she stared at it in silence.

He wondered what was going on in her head, but then he thought she could never even think about him and even if she did, it would be something evil. Hurting him has been Harlow’s number one priority. freёnovelkiss.com

He had made the mistake in the past of not knowing who his wife was, but in this life, he would never make that mistake again.

Alanis moved closer to her as he rested his head on his shoulder.

"What are you doing." Came her words which was surprisingly soft this time. Alanis said nothing and just shut his eyes as he rested on her.

Harlow couldn’t push him off, she was truly tired of always fighting him all the time. Though she had promised to never let him get this close to her, for the first time, Alanis looked genuinely tired.

The road back to the Villa was truly long, just like traveling to another city entirely. Letting Alanis sleep on her shoulder for a while, wouldn’t hurt. Right? She sighed at her thoughts.

She has truly gone soft on this man. Maybe because he’s the only person who changed in this life. The only person who has treated her right now matter what she does.

She turned to look at him, her gaze lingering longer on his handsome face. "Have you fallen for me yet, or do you need more time?" Alanis suddenly asked, his dark eyes meeting her gaze, and as if being caught doing something wrong, Harlow pushed him away.

"You were pretending to be asleep?" She asked furiously.

"Resting on my villain’s shoulder doesn’t mean I’m pretending. That’s why you’re mine. So answer my question, have you fallen for me?" He asked again desperately this time. "Even if it’s a little. Maybe something you wouldn’t notice. Maybe a heartbeat." At his words, her heart started beating so fast again, but she refused to admit it.

"Keep dreaming Alanis, even if you know the reality is your nightmare." She said coldly.

"Surely, your heart must have skipped for me." Alanis was desperate. He needed something to hold on to, just a little sign. He suddenly grabbed her shoulders and Harlow’s eyes went wide.

"What are you doing?" She asked turning surprised by his sudden change of attitude.

"I’ve decided not to believe your words anymore. Call it whatever, nightmare of delusion, I will accept it." Alanis pegged her lips and leaned down to place his ears on her chest and there it was. The fast abnormal beating. As if realizing what he just did, Harlow pushed him with all of the strength in her body.

"I knew you had fallen for me," Alanis concluded, his words only angered her. She refused to believe she had fallen in love with this man. It’s not possible. Yes, she’s pitied him a few times, but that isn’t love.

"There’s a thin line between love and hate Alanis."

"But your heartbeat says otherwise." He argued. Harlow blushed. This man truly is crazy, how dare he listen to her beating heart.

"T... that’s how fast my heart beats." She didn’t mean to stutter, but she did anyway.

"When you’re around me?" He asked and she rolled her eyes. "Stop flattering yourself, Alanis. I will never be in love with you." He nodded gently.

"Alright, but there’s something you’d have to help me with tonight. And you can’t say no." He said.

"What is it?" Harlow asked. She couldn’t trust Alanis’s words yet, if he was demanding something, then it must mean it was something bad or illegal. But what exactly could it be?
