When morning came, Harlow had woken up the the usual fresh smell of roses. She was scared that roses might become extinct in Halkhalls if Alanis continued gifting her so many like this.
She pushed the sheets out of her body and sat up when her cell phone rang. It was a strange number and Harlow contemplated who was calling her and why. But she picked it up anyway.
"Miss Harlow, I’ve been trying to get to you since yesterday." The man’s desperate words rang from the other end and she knew who it was immediately. She frowned.
"What is it Paius?"
"It’s master Frank Miss Harlow. Your father had been hospitalized last night." Paius said.
"What happened to him?"
"He had a heart attack after your stepmother and sister’s visit yesterday." Harlow smiled. She had no idea his heart attack would come this fast. It seems she had underestimated Claudia and her mother.
Both women were more materialistic than she thought. She had been a little scared of them actually loving her father and not wanting to leave him. But they had both been the same people to kill him in her past life.
They have already started poisoning him in this life too.
"Is he dead yet?" Harlow asked.
"No... No miss. Please do check up on him, you’re the only one he has now." Paius said. He had seen Elisa and Claudia’s wickedness the previous day. All of the servants in the mansion were stunned by their brutality.
Everyone knew Frank loved the duo more than his own child. After faking being his real family, the least they would have done was to be grateful for everything Frank did for them, but they still took everything he owned.
Elisa has robbed Frank of every dime leaving him with nothing. She took the mansion and all of his estates. The contract was not for 80% of his properties. Frank had given everything to both her and her daughter.
"Why do you say that? Doesn’t daddy have stepmother and Claudia?" Harlow mocked.
"I’m afraid not miss. Don’t bother going back to the mansion, I’m afraid it no longer belongs to your father. Madam Elisa has taken everything your father owned. And also claimed your sister, is not your sister." Paius had expected Harlow to be shocked but the girl shocked him.
"That’s nothing new," Harlow said nonchalantly.
"You knew?" He asked. It was no wonder Harlow always fought with the duo, had she always known they were not her family?
"M... Miss Harlow, why didn’t you say anything to your father? A lot would have been avoided." He said.
"If I told you Claudia wasn’t my sister would you have believed me?" Paius swallowed his words at her question. She was right. No one would have believed her. Besides they all already saw as the useless bad egg in the family, while Claudia was the golden child.
"Send me the address of the hospital he’s in, I can help clear his bill at least."
"I’ll do just that Miss." She hung up before Paius could. This was the best revenge for her father, at least now he knows he cannot trust those people anymore.
It’s a good thing she had taken the most important part of his inheritance, Elisa and Claudia can share whatever garbage they got from him. As for the mansion, she’ll retrieve it back because it doesn’t belong to her father.
"Who’s that?" The deep voice from behind her startled her a little and she turned to look at the man standing across from her. No matter how hard she tried to deny it, she had fallen back in love with this man again.
Maybe this life is different. It was clear this Alanis is different from Alanis from her past.
What if Alex and her other children want this? What if peace is all they want from her?
Maybe her second chance isn’t necessarily about revenge. Maybe it is a second chance to find happiness again.
"I’m talking to you." His words dragged her from her thoughts again.
"My plans worked. Father had been admitted to the hospital." Alanis took a step closer wrapping his dark robe around his body as he approached her.
"So are you going to tell him the truth about her?" He sat next to her. Harlow shook her head turning aware of his presence. She had loved this man for more than ten years, and now, in this life. She loved him again.
Alanis had earned her love again this time. She wanted to trust him again, but she would never be stupid to love blindly again.
"He already knows." She said.
"How so?" Alanis asked a little surprised himself.
"Claudia and my stepmother already told him. They took everything he owned and dumped him." Alanis chuckled.
"What’s funny?" Harlow asked. This was a serious matter, those imposters had stolen everything her mother worked so hard for.
"Your father is so stupid to give everything to them. How can he trust blindly?" Alanis shook his head.
"Does that mean you’re stupid too because you gave everything your family owns to me?" Harlow shot back and that wicked smile that graced his lips gently fell but not completely.
"We’re married under a contract sweetheart. Plus I didn’t need the company again. If you know me well, you’d know I don’t like the office work. I only did it because grandma forced me to." He shrugged.
It is no wonder he hadn’t argued or even fought her taking over the company. But in the past, he has also taken the company to an even greater heights, (with her help of course).
But if Alanis doesn’t like the company work, what does he like? Harlow wondered as she stared at him.
Who is this man?
"What did you want to do instead?" Harlow asked. She could recall in the past, Alanis went missing for a few years, she knew because that was the time Garth had taken over. But he got back the moment the company was about to crash.
"I wanted to be a pilot. Or maybe in the military." He said. "I wanted a life outside of the company and my family drama."
