It was a sunny day with birds chirping in the sky. Harlow was still fast asleep, stretching her slender form as she rolled on the bed. The sweet scent of roses filled the air and she inhaled deeply.
The sweet scent of roses?
Roses?
Flowers?
Wait a minute. Her eyes flew open immediately and as she took in the view of her bedroom, Harlow frowned. There’s only one person that can do this in the whole world.
But how had he found her?
"Alex." She muttered and hurried out of bed. Harlow draped her night dress jacket over her body as she moved between the roses placed everywhere and stepped out of the room.
Who could have betrayed her this way?
Harlow wrapped the light jacket around her body as she ran. As she approached the grand lounge she could hear Alex’s laughter from afar. She sighed in relief, that meant her son was saved. But what could explain the flowers scattered in her room?
Her steps were fast as she ran through the grandstairs only for her to freeze at what, or rather who she saw.
Alanis was seated there in flesh and blood, Alex in his hands as he giggled. Harlow paled as she saw him. This must be a dream, she must be in another world. There’s no way this man must have found her, she had made sure to hide her identity and that of her child.
"Alex." She called and both people raised their heads to look at her.
"Mummy this is my frie..."
"Step away from that monster right now!" Harlow yelled for the first time and Alex quickly stepped away from him. He hurried to his mother’s embrace. She hid her son behind her, green eyes as clear as the sky.
Alanis rose to his feet, his dark eyes on the woman by the stairs. "You must be Harlow, Alexander’s mother." He smiled.
"He’s a g..."
"What are you doing here Alanis?" Harlow went straight to the point. She had no idea what game this man was playing this time, but she was not in the mood for it.
"I had an accident a few years back and since then I’m lost. I’m only trying to regain my memory." He said.
"My doctor said the only way for me to regain my memory is if I stay with the things I used to stay with while I was normal." He added.
"According to Grandma, I spent my good days with you. You have nothing to worry as I am not attracted to you in any way." Harlow stared at him in silence. Her heart clenched as she listened to his words.
She was hurt that Alanis had lost his memory due to the accident. But why was she hurt he had forgotten her, isn’t that what she wants? For him to forget her forever.
Harlow opened her mouth to give him her response and at the same time, Lia walked into the scene.
"Brother Alanis?" She called, eyes wide as she stared at him. She couldn’t believe it. Her big brother had found his family, but how did he do it?
How did he find them?
"Who are you?" Alanis asked. He looked so lost, so simple, so weak. He looked like he didn’t have a purpose, like an innocent person that needed help.
Harlow fought the urge to feel any form of sympathy for him. She refused to pity the same man who had been cruel to her in her past life.
A man who lied about having no idea of his past just to be with her again.
"What do you mean big bro, don’t you know who I am?" Lia asked.
"He apparently had lost his memory and is asking to stay here to regain them again," Harlow said calmly.
"Why what happened?" Lia asked. Of course, Harlow hadn’t told her Alanis was involved in a fatal accident when she came here. She couldn’t tell her she had left the family in their worst form, a form she had caused.
"He had an accident that has made him lose his memory," Harlow answered each answer cold as she stared at him.
"I would have loved to help you Mr Hamilton, but your story is not convincing enough. I just cannot trust you no matter what you say."
"What part can you not trust? That I’m not attracted to you?" Alanis asked.
"I must be a terrible person for you to hate me this way. I’m sorry for whatever pain I must have caused you. But I need help. I promise, once I’m fully recovered, I’ll leave." He said.
"Harlow you need to help him, please. Brother Alanis needs our help, we can’t ignore him at a time like this." Lia rushed up to her sister-in-law holding her arms.
"I... I’ll see to it that he’s out of here once he regains his memory," Lia added.
"While you’re here you’re forbidden to come close to my son. You’ll be in your room and be fed in there." Harlow said, holding Alex’s hands as she headed towards the stairs.
The little boy turned to look at the mister who looked just like him. Then he smiled at him. He liked him. The man seemed so cool.
Alanis’s eyes followed them till they were both out of his sight. Before him was his world, his purpose to live.
"Come this way, brother Alanis, let me take you to your room." Lia’s voice rang in his ears and he turned to meet her gaze.
"Don’t worry, I’ll help you regain your memory again." She smiled.
"I have my memory, Lia. How have you been." Alanis suddenly asked shocking the woman before him.
"No one has to know. Not my wife or my son." He said.
"B... But how did you find us?"
