The Birth of A Volleyball Legend-Chapter 490: A Crazy Day At School!
In the end, the celebration lunch ended up peacefully, and although it was strange to invite the players from the team that they defeated yesterday to join the party, all the Tsunemori players accepted this, not even batting their eye at the group of strangers in front of them. Fortunately, even though the schedule was pretty tight–only seven days before the semifinal game started–Akira was still kind enough to give them a day off, or they would have collapsed on the spot if the coach forced them to train more.
A day later, they were back to the school with the new spirit. Not only were they refreshed by the important day off that the coach gave, but the warm greeting from all the residents of the school was also enough to feed their ego for the next twenty years.
"Good job, Yuki-kun! I know you can do it!"
"Riku-sama! Please, marry me!"
"No, he is my husband!"
"Yuki-kun, may I have a photo?"
"Hey, I am first!"
"Don't push around like that! Yuki-kun is mine!"
Yeah, the reaction was probably a bit… Too much to Yuki's liking. Right when he was still in the corridor before he could even enter the classroom, he was surrounded by a lot of people who wanted to greet him. He could see from the corner of his eyes that Riku also suffered from the same fate here, which somehow, made him glad for it. That meant he didn't suffer alone, and the blonde boy wouldn't be able to tease him about it later.
Yuki kept maintaining his polite smile, responding to every greeting shortly while also trying to get out of the crowd. Unfortunately, the more he tried, the more he was squeezed by the crowd. They didn't have any mercy here, not giving any room for him to breathe.
This happened for another few minutes even though the bell had already rang, signaling that the school had just started. Fortunately, the English teacher arrived soon, and when she saw the commotion around the two volleyball players, she furrowed her brows deeply before shouting, "Why are you surrounding your friends like that? Give them some privacy here! Also, the class has just started! Go back to your seat!"
"Yes, Sensei!"
Yuki let out a deep sigh as he was finally allowed to go back to his seat. He also felt dreadful, not looking forward to face the teasing from Kato. However, the strangest thing was, that the girl didn't even turn around to greet him, just staring at the blackboard intently as if it had just offended her. Yuki tried to pat her shoulder, yet she swatted it mercilessly, throwing away her face from his direction.
'What the hell…' Yuki could feel the corner of his mouth twitching. 'What is wrong with her?' He sighed helplessly, not knowing what should he do. In the back row, Riku giggled furiously when he saw this scene, laughing at Yuki's naivety when talking about girls.
'Oh, Yuki, you still need to learn a lot in this regard. Don't worry, this good friend of yours will be able to help you. Brace yourself, Boy!"
Somehow, even though the atmosphere there was pretty normal, Yuki couldn't help but shudder, feeling like someone had just talked about him. He turned around quickly, trying to find its source. Unfortunately, Riku was quick enough to avoid his gaze while also maintaining his composure too.
"Okay, first thing first, I think, congratulations are in order for the two members of our class, right?" The English teacher smiled knowingly at Riku and Yuki. "Come on, Agostini-kun! Kobayashi-kun! Congratulations to you both for being a part of history! Let's hope that they could go further and continue to thrive in the future, so that we can be prouder than we are right now, okay?"
"Yes, Sensei!"
Yuki and Riku could only smile awkwardly, thanking the teacher for their genuine feeling. Yuki himself didn't mind, knowing that he was one of the top students in the class. Having been praised by the teacher was not a strange thing for him. However, for Riku, the boy who always had trouble in the classroom, this was probably the first time a teacher greeted him so politely like this, and somehow, he was pretty intoxicated by it.
However, this crazy parade didn't end up just like that. Right at the short break in the middle of the third and fourth classes, some of the students from the other classes also barged in, wanting to take a photo or two with Yuki and Riku. They also voiced their dissatisfaction since they didn't have any volleyball members in their class, which made Yuki and Riku's classmates smile smugly at the guests. Some of the senpai also joined the fun, chatting with both Yuki and Riku for a while after they had done bothering the volleyball members of their class.
However, the most exaggerated thing came from the teachers themselves. Out of a sudden, they started to greet Yuki and Riku – well, just Riku, honestly, since Yuki himself was a good boy – more politely as if they both had just won an Olympiad. They didn't even make any comment when Riku accidentally fell asleep in the middle of the class, shrugging it off with the reason that he should be tired after an exhausting game against Kikugawa High, even though some of them wanted to point out that it had been two days already.
Overall, those two teens finally knew what it meant to be an artist, and they couldn't help but give a hat off toward some of them for being able to take advantage of their names without doing any chores without having to bear any responsibility in the future.
"Man, this is crazy…" Yuki sighed helplessly as finally, the exhausting day was over. He leaned his body back against the seat, and when he saw that Kato was about to go, the boy couldn't help but ask, "Hey, are you doing good? Is there anything wrong with me? Why are you ignoring me like that?"
It was just a bunch of basic questions driven by his curiosity and concern for Kato. However, what he didn't expect, though, was to see the girl blush furiously before scampering over the room, not even giving Yuki enough time to react. Yuki was too stunned to react, and right after everything sunk into his consciousness, he could only say one thing here.
"What the hell?!"
