Chapter 667: Fishing is an activity to test your patience and tenacity

Every day, all I did was listen to the reports coming from the Human Realm.

Natha told Heraz to report back on anything. Even if there was nothing to report, he told them to send an update at least once a day. I told Zarfa the same things.

The problem with not being there to do it was the constant anxiety of not knowing shit. I felt like I would just walk around unable to do anything if I didn’t have a clear grasp of what happened over there, that was why I requested such a system.

Even if that means a huge amount of mana stones had to be spent for communication...so what? My husband was the wealthiest of them all, and I no longer had mana deficiency.

The first few days, as our anniversary month came to a close, were filled with nothing but travel logs. Shapeshifted could move fast, but not Tsalinade. We also didn’t want her to waste mana in teleportation, so they had to move swiftly by land.

Meanwhile, the Hero and his companion also started to move secretly out of our base city, toward the next one with a Midas branch. They would show themselves to the public entering the next city but before then, they would move in the shadow.

"We’ll follow the route toward the Holy Empire too," Natha explained for a few times already. Not because I wasn’t focused before, but because hearing the explanation made me calmer. "Since our objective is to be ’captured’, it would be ideal to have it happen as close as possible from the central."

"And...Qu’en will escape right before entering the church, right?"

"Yes, since we can’t have them get exposed as a demon," Natha nodded. "Besides, we might get them in even more panic seeing ’you’ vanish like a mist."

And he said it literally. As I had witnessed so many times in Heraz, shapeshifted could turn into mist or blend in the shadow. They would be very hard to detain, even if the church put on a mana-suppressing cuff.

After all, shapeshifter’s shifting ability was their natural trait; there was no need for mana.

However...

"The ’spear’ would remain, and they would be able to feel the Goddess’s essence inside the green jewel," I muttered the plan myself. "Hopefully, they’d bring the spear to where the bead is to match the essence."

"Hopefully," Natha nodded.

My only concern was them scrutinizing the remote control formation inside the spear, but that was a risk we had to take. Hopefully, there wouldn’t be any high-rank magicians working for them, who could decipher Lesta’s high-quality works.

I put my hope in the hidden resentment that the magic tower association held for the church because of their constant suppression.

Phew~

Like a student on the verge of a final examination, hearing the plans over and over again was like heading the answers to the questions. It lowered my anxiety well.

"Thank you for getting calmer, Shwa," I kissed my son’s cheek and hugged him. "I’m sorry that Papa is so distraught."

"Waah!"

The tiny hands had became stronger and moving well, patting my chin in response. Perhaps because I had been staying for a long time, Shwa no longer had separation anxiety. He didn’t have to sleep on the same bed as me anymore, and as long as I looked in on him every now and then, as long as spending a lot of time with him, he would stay calm like he used to be.

Unfortunately, he would be restless if I was too far away. Anywhere he couldn’t feel my mana anymore. I tested it by going to the Lair, checking on Neel for any improvement in her golem study. When I returned, I heard his loud cry already the moment I stepped out of the portal.

It was fortunate that he was still a baby. If he was bigger and could crawl on his own, I felt like the Angwi would have to use all six of her limbs to restrain the wild trashing and prevented him from jumping off the nannies’ hold.

What a rascal.

"But Shwa...I might have to leave for a bit later on," I sighed and pressed on his cute pink nose. "Can’t you let Papa go for a few days? Mm? Don’t cry and make the nannies worry, okay?"

"Waa!"

"I don’t know what you’re saying but pleaseee?" I pleaded on his plump stomach, and he only giggled in response. "Your daddy will probably have to go to, so be a good boy at home, okay?"

"Aaahh!"

"Eeh, at least you’re responding."

Let’s just hope for the best, and if Shwa still acting difficult...just leave it to Angwi! I would probably have to be confined by this little tyrant for a year, but if it meant I would get full custody of him, then it would be a worthy sacrifice.

After three days, finally, the Hero team arrived at the next Midas branch. It was in a neighboring kingdom, and one kingdom away from the Holy Empire. They had to ride nonstop, and I bet Aina was groaning all the way. But I had bestowed upon her Arta’s prized portable bathtub with heating stone, so she should be comfortable enough during rest.

We chose that city because it was the second-largest branch of Midas, and Zarfa said if they were going to make their debut, they might as well do it spectacularly. It was a kingdom that more or less acted like the Realm of Greed--the realm’s biggest marketplace. There was an auction every month, and a grand auction every year. They were too early for the grand one, but it wasn’t like they truly looking for a relic in the auction, so...

[The auction here always happened on the day with the same number of the month, so we would have to wait until the fifth] Zarfa explained. [But we’ll make sure to go as flashy as possible]

"Just say you’re itching to shop."

[Isn’t it great that we can do what we love while working?] Zarfa laughed. [While saving the realm, no less! Hahahahaha!]

Perhaps you shouldn’t sound so villainous while saying that, my friend.

"Well, at least you’re enthusiastic," I laughed. "Still, please be careful since you are essentially baiting for danger."

[Eyy~do you think I’m just doing this yesterday?] Zarfa scoffed. [You even gave us teleportation scrolls for emergencies, so don’t worry too much. Just...prepare well for the next step."

"Even if I don’t prepare well, Natha will--no, he is preparing as we speak," I shrugged. "Anyway, good luck! Oh, and have fun!"

[Leave it to me! Auntie will keep an eye for shiny things, Shwa!]

"Waaah!"

I raised my brow at my son, who was moving his arms energetically as if he knew what Zarfa was talking about. "What? You like shiny things too? You’re really your daddy’s child."

"Aah!" the small hands smacked mine repeatedly. "Aah! Waah!"

"Mm? Are you saying you’re my child too?"

"Waah!"

Okay, okay--I laughed and nuzzled on his stomach again. Meanwhile, my other son was feeling dejected because he couldn’t see Shiny, who was going back to the ruin to accompany Stan. Moreover, Shwa was kind of monopolizing me, so he spent more time with Vrida now, even sleeping with her in his bird form.

Ah--at least he didn’t feel like I was ignoring him. What a good boy.

And then, two days later, we finally got a confirmation that Tsalinade and Qu’en had arrived in a city near a ruin. The ruin was one of the biggest ones. Allegedly, there was still a quarter of unexplored areas, and the information network stated that the church agents were still going back and forth inside this ruin.

So, even if the agents specifically looking for Valmeier couldn’t keep up, the one who had to explore the ruins probably had been warned about Valmeier and would be able to identify his figure.

There was no need to delay anymore. After making sure Tsalinade had a full mana capacity, the team entered the ruin. Of course, people would only see the disguised Qu’en entering the ruin. We had arranged so that the spear could be miniaturized into a bracelet charm--so it would look like vanishing into Qu’en’s arm. However, we wanted to show off, so the moment Qu’en stepped inside the ruin, ’he’ summoned the ’spear’.

Meanwhile, hidden with stealth, Heraz and Tsalinade followed Qu’en from behind. The plan was to only make the spear act when there were eyewitnesses.

Unfortunately, the place was truly, truly big. It was basically an underground city--or probably several cities--based on their accounts. The first day passed without any result; only several adventurers asked if Qu’en wanted to join their group. Based on the report from the team watching from outside, however, those people weren’t from the church.

Still, they played the ’sentient’ spear while saving them, with the hope they would let the people outside know about ’a sentient spear-wielding man’ inside the ruin.

To make it easier for the church, the group stayed inside the ruin. Of course, separately. Qu’en made a tent like any regular mercenary and adventurer would, while Heraz and Tsalinade stayed hidden in a vantage point, watching for anyone who might approach our actor.

The next dawn, we got a whisper transmission from the outside team’s leader--someone called Sore.
