The Demon Lord's Bride (BL)-Chapter 712: When you finish the big quest and dozens of side quests start to show up
Chapter 712: When you finish the big quest and dozens of side quests start to show up
One of the best feelings in the world was having a soft, clean sheet to sleep on. Even better if your blanket was a pair of familiar, sturdy arms and your pillow was a pair of nice chests.
Ahem.
No--seriously, though. Even after opening my eyes, I didn’t want to get up or leave. I just lay there, drowsily, holding on to him while listening to his heartbeat. I knew he was already awake from it, perhaps way earlier than me. But I loved that he let me just lie there like that for at least five minutes without saying anything, just stroking my messy hair.
"It’s so nice to wake up in your arms again," I whispered to his chest.
"And it’s so nice to wake up with you in my arms," he whispered to my hair.
I giggled because it felt so silly, and snuggled up to his neck, inhaling the unique scent of intermingling cold and burnt aroma. "It’s also been a while since I didn’t wake up to you feeding Shwa."
Most of the time, I would wake up alone with him on the balcony taking our son for a dose of morning sunlight and a bottle of milk. Not that I was complaining; sometimes I could hear him conversing--one-sidedly--with Shwa, and it was adorable. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
But sometimes, I just wanted him to be there with me on the bed, so I wouldn’t have to take a few seconds to realize that I wasn’t alone.
"The kid is behaving well this morning," he chuckled. "Didn’t cry and scream for you at all."
"Maybe he knew his Papa needed his Dada this morning," I raised my head and gave him a morning peck on the lips.
"What a filial child."
My laughter ended up inside his mouth as we kissed each other’s good morning. Oh, it was cheering just to hold his face and look at his silver eyes under the trickling sunlight coming from the window. Haa...my husband was so beautiful.
"Ah...I didn’t want to leave," I whispered to his neck as I hugged him tightly.
He mischievously rubbed my waist with his cold thumb. "This bed or this place?"
"Both?" I shrugged. "I think I’m getting sick of going there, talking about people’s business."
Natha smirked. "You’re the one who started it, sweetheart."
"I know," I pursed my lips and grumbled. "That’s why I’m sick of it."
He chuckled and instantly made me feel better by peppering my face and neck with kisses--which honestly was half the reason I didn’t want to leave the bed. Maybe I felt tired of constantly doing something too. Maybe I just wanted to get lazy and rotting in bed with people I loved.
That being said, I knew I wouldn’t be able to have a clear, serene mind before I took care of things. The fact was...I still felt anxious about Shwa’s hundredth day, and if I just rolled around lazily, I wouldn’t be able to distract myself from that anxiety.
"But, hey--" I got up and grasped Natha’s face. "That means we’ll go ’work’ together, right?"
"That--" he took my hand and kissed the back of it. "--is correct, Your Highness."
Oh, I shuddered a little bit. Not the bad kind. "Hmm...it doesn’t feel so bad hearing it as seduction."
"Does it work?" Natha tilted his head, already looking seductive without the need to utter a single word.
I glanced at my pocket watch on the table. "Do we have time?"
"Maybe in the shower."
"Let’s hurry, then."
I eagerly climbed to his lap, and he carried me to the bathroom with a laugh. It was like last night, but gentler and slower. Just enjoying the time we had before joining the rest of the world. While soaking ourselves in the bathtub, he told me what happened on his side before he arrived at the Plaza.
It was rather funny. If I had gone over just three minutes later, I would have received his message about him returning. But, oh well. He immediately used the teleportation link to one of the warehouses and gave direct orders to the other demons to enter the Holy Empire.
That was how they could arrive on time to help the templars subdue the Archbishops and prepare the screens to show the citizens what happened inside the plaza.
Needless to say, I was gobsmacked.
"You were doing all that in twenty minutes?" I gasped, staring in awe at Izzi and Zia who joined us for breakfast.
To cross the border and get the screen up, not to mention setting up the ’drones’ around the plaza and projecting it...I could only clap in response.
"I know, right? I need a raise," Izzi scoffed.
"We still need to edit the recording and project it to the Demon Realm and the Realm of Nature," Natha said.
The elf groaned openly, something he avoided doing in front of Natha before. But he was no longer under contractual debt, and we were more in cooperation rather than subordination now. Not to mention, once he got married to Zia, he basically became our extended family.
So yeah--all was well among cousins.
"Ah, so that’s why you said you still had a lot of work to do," I clapped as I remembered.
"There’s no choice," Natha shrugged. "It was impossible to broadcast it across the border. The mana sequence between each realm is still too much."
Yeah, that made sense. Even broadcasting across one realm would be hard, so getting it to another realm would be impossible. That was why Aina’s trans-realm communication orb was so groundbreaking. Natha still gatekept this device because he wanted to be the only one to use it--you know, for spying and such.
After this, however, he would probably release the invention to the public to foster cooperation between realms. At least, the committee we would create to uphold the New Covenant would need this device.
But wouldn’t it be better if we could also do a trans-realm broadcast?
"Hey, look!" I turned toward the elf. "You found your next homework."
"I haven’t even finished the phone?!" Izzi looked at me dumbfoundedly.
"Isn’t it nice to have work lined up?"
"You demon!" he hissed. "You’re more demon than the demon!"
"Oh, my..." I clutched my chest. "I am now a part of three races!"
"Oh, shut up!"
Indeed, teasing someone felt good. I grinned as Zia patted the elf lightheartedly. "So, are you going to come with us today, Zia?"
"Uh-huh," the succubus nodded and gave me a wink. "I have nothing to do while they are working anyway."
The elf shot an incredulous look at his fiancee. "Traitor."
Curling her eyes, Zia leaned to the elf and kissed Izzi’s cheek. Look at this girl? The elf grasped his cheek and looked at Zia in flusters.
"That’s cheating!"
And all he got was a wink.
"Oh, for fuck’s sake," Izzi hissed and gulped down his fruit juice as if he got thirsty suddenly.
Heh. Maybe she learned more than clan affairs in her hometown? But then again, it was the clan affairs of lust demons. Maybe flirting and seduction was part of the curriculum.
Did Natha learn from them too? Hmm...
"Anyway, what are you going to do with the Druid’s territory?" Zia asked, ignoring her fuming fiance who was suddenly focused on eating more breakfast.
"Hmm..." I looked to the space between me and Natha, where our son was sucking on his little mittens inside his portable baby cot. "I guess...what I had been planning to do?"
Zia straightened her back in attention. "Oh-ho?"
"I’m thinking of making it a neutral territory," I told her, stroking my cheek shyly--because honestly, everything was still in the conceptual stage.
I mean...until yesterday, I didn’t know that it was possible to get the territory back without extensive planning and a lot of violence.
"Neutral?" Izzi looked up from his plate and returned to us. "You mean..."
"Where everyone from all races could live in harmony together," I shrugged.
"Even if the border is to be opened for trade, it will take time until people can comfortably interact with another race," Natha said. "Having a place to prove that it could be done might fasten the process."
"I sure hope so," I smiled wryly.
And Zia voiced the concern behind this plan of mine.
"It will be hard, though..." the succubus muttered. "Especially regarding the security."
"Yeah," a sigh left me as I stroked my son’s cheek. "The patrol guards will need to be extra, extra keen to watch and investigate for any conflicts and discrimination."
I wasn’t naive--at least, compared to how I was in the past. Realistically, placing communities who had been hostile to each other in the same place might do more harm than good. Natha said it could fasten the process of harmony--but that only in the case that the city I pictured in my head came true.
If this city ended up getting filled with chaos and conflicts, it could conversely be used as proof that cooperation and harmonious living were impossible.
"And you have to consider the balance of power," Zia also sighed, probably recalling the situation in Lust. "Technically, it’s the druid territory, and the druids have any right to take the authoritative position, but..."
"That will defeat the purpose of the city," Natha said.
"Yeah..."
"You’ll need to involve all races in the administration," my husband continued. "But it might also be prone to conflict."
"Nothing is easy," I leaned back and exhaled slowly. As if sensing my worry, a small gloved hand tried to clutch my finger. Looking at my son, who was staring at me with clear eyes, I couldn’t help but smile. "But also...nothing will change without trying."
Like how we got this little guy, and how we tried to keep him with us.
Zia grinned and held my other hand in support, telling me with her eyes that she would help me as much as she could. Well, I didn’t know the steps I should take yet to fulfill this, but I wouldn’t say no to a friend’s help.
"So, the Prince staying there needs to go, right?" the purple eyes narrowed.
"Naturally," I shrugged.
"What about the citizens?"
I grimaced. "That’s...trickier."
"Yeah..."
I mean...I couldn’t build a utopia of peace by shedding blood, could I? That being said...
"Well, I’m actually thinking of something..."
