Chapter 385: I guess you’re right

Alice couldn’t understand why Carl forfeited the match. Why would he give up his chance to kill her?

Was he messing with her or did he suddenly decide that it would be best to get rid of her in secret and not in front of the entire country?

She perked up her glasses feeling annoyed.

Yes, she wanted to end the match quickly so she could go sleep, but not with the price of letting a demon, who could potentially cause chaos, go free.

"Where is he?" Alice finally lost the trial of her friends, who congratulated her on her victory and told her how cool she was.

Of course, she tried to be positive about their cheers, but her mind was not at ease.

She decided to go after Carl before he did anything.

She followed the demon stench that was still lingering in the air and finally found him in the parking lot.

He stood in front of a rounded body, a middle-aged man, Elizabeth, and a group of elite guards.

’Ah, so that’s the one who’s been sending assassins after me. As much as if like to settle the scores with him,’ She glanced at Carl. ’I have no evidence on me right now to accuse him of sending assassins.’

"Why did you forfeit the match?" Mr Hart asked Carl.

"Why, you ask? For someone who even your outstanding daughter could not beat, I already knew I had no chance." Carl said.

"You lie!" Mr Hart yelled. "The energy you released was way more violent and monstrous compared to my daughter’s, so I’m certain you possess capabilities higher than my daughter, who is still at the green stage."

He was trying to say his daughter only lost because she was still quite new to powers and though she might already be a prodigy, awakening as an S-class, she was still inexperienced.

So, Carl, who had a mysterious background, should’ve been able to do what she could not.

"Well, you’re right about that." Carl said. "My energy was way more fierce than hers and yet... My opponent did not bat an eye."

"What do you mean?"

"I released my energy for show to get a reaction out of her and know my chances of winning but she simply showed, unimpressed and unafraid. Did you think I had a chance to win someone like her?"

They went silent and Carl sighed. He was putting on such a good act from Alice’s perspective.

"So, instead of letting her defeat me and bringing shame to my employer, I decided to throw in the towel. She won, but it’s not exactly an honorable win since she did not fight for it."

"I guess you’re right." Mr Hart said. "But I still can’t let her go. She has thrown dirt on my beloved daughter’s face for the second time. She needs to pay. Just look what she did to my beloved Elizabeth? She won’t even talk to me."

Alice shifted her gaze to Elizabeth whose gaze was on the floor. Her countenance was low and it looked like she had lost all reason to respond.

She wasn’t exactly the type that smiled or made ideal chats but from where she stood, Alice could tell that her spirit was broken.

She deserved it for being so full of herself. She needed a wake-up call. The world didn’t exactly revolve around her so she had no right to exert her position when she had never faced a single hardship in her life.

’Hm, I feel I should be recording this conversation,’ Alice thought. ’They might say something worth using against them.’

Since she was wearing her jacket, she could get closer without them realizing or even noticing her presence.

’Okay, you guys just need to keep talking.’ Alice thought and patted her eyelids slowly. ’Boy, I’m sleepy.’

"None of the assassins I sent after her came back." Mr Hart said. "It’s as if they ran away or something. Is she that formidable?"

"Haha, she is, of course." Carl said. "But don’t worry, since you’ve been such a good business partner and a huge help in distributing the ’miracle potion’ to different distribution sights, I’ll do this for you for free."

’Ah, just my luck.’ Alice thought.

"What do you mean?" Mr Hart asked.

"Don’t worry. The matter here will be taken care of in no time. So, I’d advise you to leave and cool down your temper. The girl was lucky now, but she won’t be lucky forever."

Mr Hart looked skeptical but he could only click his tongue and listen to what Carl had to say.

Sure enough, Carl was not a normal person, and for him to mention the miracle potion...

’Leo, how do I put a tail on someone?’ Alice asked, and Leo, who was keeping their friends at bay, turned around, wondering what she was up to.

*You can’t.* He answered. *Why? Do you need to tail someone?*

’Yeah, and it’s pretty urgent too.’

*Unfortunately, you don’t have any skills or items to help you tail someone. And if it’s the demon, you’d need something extraordinary so...*

’Haa, I get it. I guess I’ll just have to look for Mr Hart if I do want to track down the demon.’ Alice thought and then yawned as silently as she could.

"Alright, we’ll get going for now." Mr Hart said. "Make sure you take care of things."

They all got into their expensive cars and left.

Alice stood up and stretched after that was done. Though, she did not understand what Carl meant when he said he would take care of things but no matter what they planned for her, she would be ready.

"Alice?" Alice heard Mark’s voice and turned around. "What are you doing out here?"

"Well, I was..." She paused, pondering whether to let Mark know or not. "Getting some fresh air." She said.

"Oh, did the attention from the crowd make you feel uncomfortable?" He asked and she yawned. "Something like that."

"You seem tired," he said, reaching his hand towards her and touching her forehead. She didn’t have a fever.

It would be weird if she did and he ended up laughing to his own thoughts.

"What is it?"

"It’s nothing." He said. "Do you want to take a nap?" He asked and she nodded right away. It was cute. "You don’t have anything else you’re doing, right? You can to one of the classes and take a nap. I’ll let your friends know not to disturb you."

"Thanks, Mark. You’re so dependable." Alice laughed. "I’ll go now."

She did not waste time taking a roundabout route towards the school building in order not to get spotted.

Mark watched her as she left and then blushed, after holding it back for a while. He rolled his eyes to the floor and thought,

’She looked really cute in that outfit.’
