“Hey, what’s going on? What’s with this crowd?”

A man with a large saber on his big asked, as he walked towards the crowd gathered in the center of the street.

“That person bump into Wu Kai but even after an apology, Wu Kai wasn’t going to let him off easy and decided to attack him. However, that burly fellow then stepped in and actually caught Wu Kai’s sword! From the looks of this group's clothes, they're Mainlanders, probably from some academy on the Mainland.”

An ordinary-looking man immediately replied to the man’s question. This person seemed enthusiastic about the potential fight that was about to break out between Mu Fan and Wu Kai.

The ordinary-looking man was all smiles as he turned to the man with the large saber on his back to continue speaking, but upon seeing the man’s appearance his body stiffen, and shock covered his face.

“Y-Your…” 𝗳r𝗲𝙚w𝐞𝚋𝘯𝚘ѵ𝗲l.𝑐om

The ordinary looking-man stuttered but the man with the large saber on his back didn’t pay him any mind. Instead, he was looking at where Mu Fan and Wu Kai were squaring off.

“Ho?”

Sensing the saber aura around Mu Fan, the man with the large saber on his back raised an eyebrow while scratching his chin. 𝙛𝚛𝙚ewe𝗯𝓃𝗼ѵ𝚎Ɩ.𝒄o𝐦

“What a dense saber aura, he’s even suppressing it somewhat but it’s still so potent.”

As the man mumbled, his gaze looked from Mu Fan to Wu Kai. He then made his conclusion.

“Wu Kai isn’t his match, interesting.”

The ordinary-looking man was trembling not daring to open his mouth, but he was carefully listening to the man’s words. When he heard that Wu Kai wasn’t this unknown youth's match he thought he must have heard wrong.

Who was Wu Kai?

He was this generation’s most outstanding genius of the Winged Tiger Battalion. Only four people in all of the Southern Border City outranked him on the Southern Border beast rankings.

Even among the four border cities combined, he was a prominent figure.

With all of that being the case, it was of course shocking to hear this man’s judgment. He didn’t doubt this man’s words because he knew full well of this man’s identity.

The ordinary-looking man then looked back at the center of the street where Mu Fan and Wu Kai were.

‘To think captain Kong would say something like that about a Mainlander. I suppose with the number of resources and high-quality training grounds they have they were bound to groom someone of Wu Kai’s level.’

Meanwhile, in the center of the crowd, Mu Fan's anger hadn’t subsided because of Wu Kai’s attack on Jun.

He didn’t bat an eye at Wu Kai’s sword aura and his saber clutched in his arms like a lover began to tremble as if it was eager to be released.

Jun was standing there not knowing what to do as Mu Fan stand up for him, but he suddenly felt a stinging pain on the back of his head. Without turning around he knew that it was from Lihua glaring two daggers at them.

“Mu Fan!”

Jun yelled rather nervously and didn’t waste time grabbing a handful of Mu Fan’s robes and pulling him back without much effort.

“Huh? Why are you stopping me? Didn’t you see how viscous this bastard was to attack you from behind? If I don’t lop off his head then he’ll go around thinking it’s okay to sneak attack people from behind!”

Hearing Mu Fan's shouts, the people in the surroundings sported dumbfounded expressions.

‘If Wu Kai was being vicious when he attacked that youth from behind, then what are you when you want to lop off someone's head in broad daylight??’

“Don’t be stupid you big idiot, I was the one that bumped into him so it’s partly my fault.”

Mu Fan hearing that paused before exhaling a small breath of air through his nostrils like a bull.

“Are you sure? I can lop off his head to teach him a lesson for you. It's really no problem and it’ll be over before you know it.”

Jun took a step back because Mu Fan's face was getting too close. He was really insane talking about lopping off someone’s head so casually.

He knew Mu Fan was joking, but with the dead serious look on his face, Jun can’t imagine what the people in the crowd were thinking.

Sigh

Jun smiled and patted Mu Fan’s shoulder.

“Don’t lop off his head, I said I’m fine. And do you think I need someone as weak as you to fight my battles?”

“Huh? What’s that bastard?”

Quickly, the friendly air around Mu Fan and Jun became hostile. The switch was too abrupt leaving one to contemplate whether they were friends or not.

“Are okay?”

Fei Yin cut in and asked Jun.

Jun knew Fei Yin was referring to his dazed state previously. In response, Jun only released half a smile.

Jun would be lying if he said no, so he opted not to answer.

“Let’s talk about it when we find somewhere to settle down and wait for Li Wen, let’s go.”

With that, the group left the area through the parted crowd.

However, Mu Fan didn’t forget to look back at Wu Kai before saying.

“I’ll let you off this time you bastard, but next time you better not try something like that again.”

The parted crowd looked on as Mu Fan and the others left before leaving with disappointed expressions that no battle occurred.

A few people looked at Wu Kai as they left. To say this was unlike the Wu Kai they know was an understatement.

He just let someone threaten him and did nothing when they walked away. If it was about numbers that shouldn’t be a problem, wasn’t he the one who become known to be someone who madly charges into Sea Beast hoards?

Wu Kai wasn’t called the Wild Southern Demon for no reason.

However, it seems he met someone just as crazy as him today.

As the crowd dispersed, Wu Kai had his down, his hair blocking his face from the people’s stares.

“Make me regret it? What an arrogant bastard.”

After saying that, Wu Kai looked at the broken sword hilt still in his grasp.

‘Even though this isn’t my real weapon, I can’t just walk around without a weapon. I need a replacement sword now.’

Wu Kai then thought about the outrageous price of Spirit Artifacts and he contemplated on whether to go after that bastard to make him pay for it right now.

However, he scrapped that idea.

Wu Kai then thought about his previous exchange with Mu Fan with a serious expression.

It wasn’t entirely because of his sword exploding that he retreated. As an early Core Formation Realm cultivator, a mere mid-grade Spirit Artifact exploding wouldn’t injure him.

A simple Qi shield deployed around his body could block most of it.

What made him retreat was the familiar threat of death.

A chill still went down Wu Kai’s spine as he thought about that sensation he got from the veil-hat person. And not only him, he felt immense danger from that other person who carries two swords.

'That girl as well as that green-haired person. Even though he seemed to be peaceful on the surface the instant after he realize I made a move on that white hair youth his killing intent was clear.'

Everyone in that group showed such intense killing intent towards him, Wu Kai was caught off guard so he instinctively retreated.

No one else sensed it because it was only for a split second, but how could he, Wu Kai, who spent his life on the battlefield not be sensitive to the slightest amount of killing intent directed towards him?

‘Those people, they aren’t so simple. They’re not like those other Mainlanders that haven’t experienced life-and-death situations. Their terrifying strong.’

However, Wu Kai suddenly release a wide grin that turned his trembling eyes into crescent moons. He seemed like a predator that had just found a trespasser on his territory.

‘If there that strong, I want to battle them. I want to battle them all at once if that’s possible. I want to battle them, I want to battle them, I want to battle them…’

Wu Kai’s thoughts seemed to be consumed with the thought of fighting Mu Fan and the others. The people who walked past heard his mutters and saw the excited grin on his face.

For you to survive in a place like this where you would have to battle hoards of Sea Beasts every day like Wu Kai, you can’t remain normal.

Beyond that second wall was a place that took the most well-known phrase in the cultivation world, ‘kill or be killed,’ and multiplied it a hundredfold.

‘I need to act fast before those four find out about their strength. I can’t miss this opportunity. I need to get my equipment from the barracks, Captain might not allow me to use it besides hunting Sea Beasts but I’ll just sneak it out stealthy.’

Wu Kai then turned, and as he pushed off the ground it crack before his body sped like a lightning bolt towards the many barracks near the second wall.

Standing with folded arms observing this was the man with the large saber on his back, who was called Captain Kong.

He looked at where Wu Kai ran off to and rubbed his chin filled with unshaven stubble.

“I knew this Chosen Tournament was going to create some interesting situations, but this is more than I predicted.”

After saying that, Captain Kong’s body suddenly flickered away.

If one was able to see his movements, one would realize he was heading in the direction where Mu Fan and the others departed.
