Chapter 329 - Floor 2: The Bloodroot Tunnels

Samuel's POV

The moment I stepped onto the second floor, the air changed.

No longer stale and stone-cold—it was humid, heavy, laced with a coppery stench. The narrow tunnel ahead was crawling with thick, pulsating roots that looked almost alive, as if the entire dungeon floor was breathing through them. Glowing red veins pulsed underfoot, leading deeper into the darkness.

"Alright, Bloodroot Tunnels... let's see what nightmares you've been cooking."

I cracked my gauntlets together—my favorite pair, reinforced with the Fangshard Sigil—and the kinetic energy snapped through the space around me like thunder.

A voice echoed from the shadows ahead. Low. Whispering. Hungry.

"The fangless trespasser descends. Will you howl or be consumed...?"

I raised an eyebrow. "You know, I'm really starting to love the creepy dungeon narration. Adds flavor."

[System Notification – New Objective: Defeat the Brood Nest Keeper]

Optional: Burn 10 Bloodroot Cores to weaken the Nest Keeper before battle.

----

"Burn first. Punch later," I muttered with a grin.

----

Midway Through the Tunnels...

Bloodroot Cores turned out to be disgusting, oversized heart-like organs embedded in the walls. Each one I punched exploded in a burst of corrupted ichor and screams—literal screams.

I was down to the ninth one when a cluster of crawling beasts erupted from the ceiling—six-legged things with rotting fur, spiked jaws, and root-covered eyes.

"Ah, finally! I was getting lonely."

I surged forward with a wild grin.

WHAM — First strike, a clean right hook with Fangshard ignition. The spectral hounds erupted from my gauntlets and leapt at the enemies, snarling with black fire.

THUMP — Spinning heel into the second beast. The crunch echoed beautifully.

"Come on, come on, more of you freaks!"

SLAM — I caught one mid-pounce, grabbed its jaw with both hands, and ripped it open with a roar. Blood and roots splattered the walls. My adrenaline surged higher than ever.

By the time I hit the final Bloodroot Core, the entire tunnel was coated in gore and embers.

Nest Keeper's Chamber

The walls opened to a wide chamber, where a grotesque cocoon pulsed at the center. Root-like umbilicals fed into it from every direction. Then—

Crack.

It hatched.

The Nest Keeper emerged, twice my size. A malformed, horned hybrid of beast and vine. Its face was a mask of bone. Its breath stank of death.

It roared.

"You dared weaken my bloodline... I shall bury you in screams!"

"Buddy," I cracked my neck, then raised my fists, "I've fought gods. You? You're just a punching bag with bark."

---

The Fight

It came at me like a freight train, vines slashing, claws hammering the floor. I ducked, rolled under it, and unleashed a full-body uppercut that sent flames bursting up its spine. It shrieked and retaliated—piercing vines erupting from its back like javelins.

One grazed my cheek.

I smirked. "Nice. I'll return the favor."

My gauntlets pulsed. Fangshard Sigil activated. The ghostly hounds appeared again, tearing into the beast's back. I dashed forward, using them as cover, and unleashed a flurry of punches into its ribcage, shattering bones and igniting flesh.

It tried to grab me. I twisted under its arm, leapt onto its back, and drove my gauntlet straight into the back of its skull.

"BURY THE LIGHT!"

CRACK—BOOM!

The head exploded like a rotten fruit. The beast collapsed, its body twitching.

---

Aftermath

I stood in the middle of the chamber, heaving, covered in blood and sap.

Then—

I wiped my face and stared at the whispering thorn in my hand. Its presence crawled into my ears.

"He waits at the summit of hunger... the Lord of Fangs watches."

I smirked.

"Good. Let him watch. I'm coming for him."

And with that, I stepped through the next gate—ready to face what the Maw had to offer.
