The Kingmaker System-Chapter 52 - 51. Blow That Wig Off (3)
Chapter 52: 51. Blow That Wig Off (3)
Davian returned to his work while I stepped out of his study to start mine.
I found Ethan outside who didn’t bother to greet me and entered the study without a word.
I didn’t take it to heart as I went over to my room and changed my clothes before putting on the brooch of invisibility and jumped out of the window.
I flew towards the town and landed near the alley before walking straight towards the entrance of Izkar.
I followed the usual procedure and went straight to Kyrell’s guild. Kyrell seemed a little taken aback to see me there right after what I did the other night.
"Do-Do you need something?" He asked and I smiled as I leaned ahead and gave him the instructions.
He seemed wary at first but then he relaxed a little and listened carefully.
"I understand, I will get it done."
I smiled, satisfied with his answer. It wasn’t a hard task for an assassination guild but too time consuming if I or Lyall were to do it.
"Report to me when you gather everything."
"Yes, Master."
With that done, I returned to Frosthail castle and started putting my other plan into action.
I had told Davian to do anything he wanted but Charlotte was still in Grand Duchess’s room so I guess he was going to take his time.
Kids should be a little childish and selfish when they had adults to fulfill their demands. I wished to give Davian this teaching that was why I was going out of my way to become his strength.
I didn’t do so much for Eric since I had others who were willing to but for Davian there was no one.
He was only supported by a handful of nobles who were loyal to Grand Duke Alarice but the rest who sought that position were like hyenas waiting to prey on Davian.
That made me question again that whether Alarice and Dahlia were dead or alive.
A long time had passed by since their disappearance.
There was no funeral held since Davian was hoping to find them but everyone else believed that they were dead. It would be a miracle if the two were alive.
During dinner, I wished that I had earplugs as Charlotte and her father were talking non-stop and most of it was complaints or demands.
Davian didn’t respond to any of them as he sat and ate quietly while I was trying my best to not hurl the contents of the huge dining table on their faces.
"Sir Ocean seems like someone who would do that."
My ears perked up as I heard my name, it was Roderick who had mentioned me.
"Pardon what?" I asked.
"I was telling my daughter about the kind of fraudsters who charm the innocent young ladies, your face seems like the men who can seduce women."
I rolled my eyes at Roderick’s words.
Why was he trying so hard to try to rile me up?
"I’m offended, Lord Thompson." I said as I placed my elbow over the dining table and cradled my chin in my palm.
"Oh, don’t be I didn’t-"
"No, no, I mean, I don’t think my face can only charm girls, I’m pretty sure I can make a man’s heart race as well." I smirked.
The servants who were around coughed and covered their mouths to hide their laughters while Davian paused, his shoulders bobbing a bit before he continued eating.
Roderick stared at me for a moment as he didn’t expect my answer and Charlotte cleared her throat.
"You are quite funny, Sir Ocean."
"Ah, one should know their assets, Lady Charlotte. Your father told you about men who can charm ladies, I’m just telling about my beauty which can work on anyone."
"It doesn’t work on me." Charlotte said haughtily and I smiled at her as she sat across me.
"Is that so?" I asked leaning slightly ahead making her stare at me.
I knew the effect of a handsome face, especially of a person who looked androgynous, the mixture of the best aspects of both sexes.
Roderick cleared his throat and Charlotte turned away with her cheeks flushed red.
[Goddess of Wisdom wonders if it is all right to let you do what you want.]
"What do you mean?"
[Defender of Divine Glory worries of the same thing.]
"Wait, what?"
I sighed as the two didn’t comment anything else and I looked at Davian who had isolated himself from this conversation.
"Speaking of beauty then, His Grace would grow up to be quite a handsome man too." I commented making him look at me as if to ask, ’why would you drag me into this?’.
"His Grace is already very handsome– the most handsome man in the kingdom!" Charlotte added excitedly making Davian sigh.
"Aren’t you going to go to the Fourth Wall tomorrow, Sir Ocean? Please finish your meal and go rest."
"I wonder if he’s of any help at all." Roderick mocked and I smiled.
"Then, why don’t you and Lady Charlotte come along to see how I work?" I suggested.
"Hah? And why would we?"
"You’re a noble of the Northern territory so, shouldn’t you also see how the Walls are being protected and if the knights are working properly or not?"
Roderick stared at me with narrowed eyes for a moment before he smirked, "All right, I will go."
"What about Lady Charlotte?" I asked looking at her.
"Me as well?"
"Why not? If anything happens I’ll protect you."
"We don’t need you to protect us, Seraph Knights are strong enough."
I chuckled.
"It’s dangerous." Davian snapped and then looked at the father and daughter.
"You don’t need to go to the Fourth Wall."
"It’s fine, Your Grace. I trust the Seraph Knights that the Montaire family trains."
That was his motive. To find faults in Seraph Knights to drag Davian’s image down and then take advantage of it.
Davian looked at me and I smiled at him.
"Then, we will be going to see the Fourth Wall?" Charlotte asked.
"Yes, My Lady."
"Will you be coming as well, Your Grace?" She asked Davian.
"I have work."
"That’s too bad, Your Grace. You are the new Commander of the Seraph Knights after your father so, you should show your strength in such difficult times."
There he goes egging Davian.
Still it was as I was expecting, Davian wouldn’t just listen to words that I say to him, he would have to feel it before he could trust himself.
Davian’s fingers clenched over his fork and knife and I waited for his reply.
"... Fine, if I’m not too busy then I will go."
Bingo.
[Defender of Divine Glory finds your manipulative techniques scary.]
"It’s quite simple you know and why scary? I am doing something good here."
After dinner, we all retired to rest except for Davian who went to his study.
I met up with Lyall who reported to me about the whole day and about the small incident where the knights were ambushed but they managed to fare without any casualties.
"Sir Adler was injured, he might not be capable of fighting for a few days so, he asked me to inform you that you are required to come tomorrow.*
I nodded and after a few minutes, Lyall returned to his room while I sat in my room waiting for the night to deepen.
The wind was howling outside the window and the snow had started falling, it was going to be quite an amusing night.
I removed the blue earstud from my ear and went back to my original form of an eleven-year-old Reina. My hair was cut short and now they waved at my shoulders while I was dressed in a white gown with long sleeves.
It had been a while since I last saw my original self, my disguise was becoming quite natural for me that I was getting used to the older body more than my child’s body.
Just after I had checked everything, I picked up the brooch and a strip of bandages before I jumped out of the window.
I activated my Mana Eyes before tying the bandage around my eyes and landed on the stone railing of the balcony where I had work.
The snow had started falling quite heavily now and the wind had also picked pace making the flimsy gown that I had blow around.
I knocked on the door of the window and then banged my fist making the person sleeping inside wake up, I watched as they rose from the bed and looked at the window.
I quickly turned on the invisibility spell of the brooch and waited as the young girl inside walked up to the window. She peeked outside before she turned and went to bed.
I knocked on the door again making her sit up again and stare at the door.
[Defender of Divine Glory condemns you for bullying a child.]
"It’s not bullying, it’s a small prank. Stay out of this."
[Goddess of Wisdom waits in anticipation.]
I had this idea the moment that Charlotte said she wanted the Grand Duchess’s room. A woman who was presumed to be dead and to be sleeping in her room with all her things still in there would make anyone at least once think of a scary possibility.
I was already a fan of horror so, I wanted to try this at least once in my life.
"Charlotte~" I called making the girl flinch.
"Wh-Who... Who’s there?" She stuttered.
"Charlotte~"
Charlotte slowly climbed down from the bed and grabbed the vase from the nearby table before she inched closer to the balcony.
Stupid protagonist who goes to investigate the sourceless voices.
I watched as she stood in front of the closed doors of the balcony while I sat on the stony railing invisible to her eyes.
I didn’t say anything as I waited for her to come out. I stood up on the railing as she inched a bit more closer to the door and opened it letting the cold winds rush into her room.
She seemed ready to fight off anything which made me wonder whether the ghosts also anticipated such a stupid move from humans as well.
I didn’t lift the spell of invisibility as I saw Charlotte looking around and then she relaxed a little, probably trying to make herself believe that she might have misheard or hallucinated the voices.
She turned around and I lifted my invisibility spell.
"Charlotte~" I called and she flinched before she turned stiff.
I was holding back my laughter as she slowly turned and her eyes went as wide as saucers as she saw me.
"Come and play with me~"
I sang making her flinch and her face turned pale.
"Come to me, Charlotte~" I spoke and reached out to her making an earsplitting scream to pierce through the night.
