The Kingmaker System-Chapter 68 - 67. Angel Wings (2)
Chapter 68: 67. Angel Wings (2)
"Would you... like to see them?"
I asked Davian hesitantly and his eyes grew even wider and he leaned forward.
"A-Are they also because of some magical device?" He asked.
"Yes, right. I have them because of a magical device." I lied and he blinked, clearing his throat.
"Let’s finish the breakfast first and then, talk about it."
Maybe it was because he was going to see something that would be humanly impossible for anyone else. He was but a kid, and any kid would be curious when he heard that they would get to wings on another person.
We finished our breakfast and the maids cleared everything before Davian and I were the only ones left. I walked over and closed the windows and drew the curtains.
"Why are you closing them?" Davian asked and I walked back to him.
"You’ll see."
I inhaled before I activated my wings and felt them unfurl from behind me in the two sets. Davian’s gasp was quite loud as he stood in his place with his eyes as wide as saucers and jaw hanging.
The brightness from the angel wings had illuminated the dim room to the point that it would put the sun rays to shame.
"Tho-Those wings..."
"Quite beautiful, aren’t they?" I asked as I turned.
"They... look real." He spoke and I chuckled.
They were, just not attached to my physical body.
"They are not attached to my body, Your Grace." I said and he hesitantly walked closer to me.
"They’re not." He mumbled as he saw them poking out through my clothes.
"How are they even there?" He asked and I shrugged my shoulders.
"And there are not two but four wings. But, why are they glowing so much? They almost look like the real wings." He asked eyeing them carefully.
"They are called Angel’s Wings, Your Grace, of course they glow also, they are quite efficient when I have to go for my night patrols or strolls."
"So, on that night... you were in reality flying over the towns." Davian deducted and I smiled sheepishly.
"Yes."
"But Sir Adler and others didn’t see your wings when you flew in front of them."
"Oh, that’s because that have a feature to be invisible. I keep them invisible all the time so, it’s also my third time that I’m seeing them like this."
"They will easily attract a lot of attention."
I nodded and turned to him, "You could touch them."
Davian looked at me, "Really?"
"Yes."
He hesitantly reached out and placed his fingers over the feathers, his cheeks at once went red and eyes grew radiant.
"Th-They are so soft, like real bird’s wings."
He was delighted to touch and feel them, strangely enough I could feel his warm touch despite my wings being attached because of the system.
"Oi, system... these wings... Why can I feel Davian touching my wings?" I thought.
[Defender of Divine Glory explains that those wings are a part of your being now, so you will feel any sensation that is cast to them.]
"So, if harmed them then, I will feel the pain?"
[Defender of Divine Glory nods.]
I would need to be careful with them then.
Davian brushed his hands against my wings like am excited child for a few more minutes, before I deactivated them.
"The devices that Mage’s Tower makes are really astounding, Sir Ocean." He spoke, "Do the other Mages also have wings like this?"
"No, only I do."
"Why?" He asked.
"Because, I made them." I lied and his eyes widened.
"Really?"
I smiled, well, I had earned them and that wasn’t a lie.
"You are quite perplexing person, Sir Ocean." He said and I chuckled.
We settled down after a moment and Davian picked up a paper from the nearest table.
"Ah... There are many stray papers lying around..."
Davian’s expression that was filled with the child’s radiance was now gone as he faced me with the look that would suit the Grand Duke of Frosthail.
"About your... investigation. When are you going to restart it?" He asked.
"You said you will find something and there was hope."
"I’m tracking those people who managed to escape that day."
Davian’s eyes grew hard.
"I’m sure they know something about the whereabouts of former Archduke and Archduchess."
"But, Archmage said that it would be impossible to track them down since they used the teleportation spell. They might have teleported far away."
"Teleportation device is a device that uses magic as its fuel, Your Grace. If I have to explain it in simpler terms then, it’s as long as a horse can go with the amount of power and food that it was provided. It’s limits cannot be exceeded. They couldn’t have gotten too far but, far enough for us to lose track of them."
Davian looked stressed and I reached out and placed my hand on his.
"I have promised you, so, I won’t just say that I lost."
Davian was quiet for a few minutes before he sighed.
"Do you think someone from the Royal family might be involved in this?" He suddenly asked making my eyebrows jump.
He was suspicious of the Royals, or if I would be openly at point then, he was suspecting that the Queen had something to do with it.
"There could be a possibility."
I wasn’t ruling anything out for him. But I wasn’t willing to let him know of what I had found.
He was still a child and he didn’t even have much fighting experience so, if I said something wrong and he took it over himself then, he might just end up in a greater tragedy.
"So... there is a possibility..." He mumbled and then looked at me.
"But, if the Royal family is involved then, you couldn’t do anything." He told me and I shrugged my shoulders.
"I’m but a detective who is investigating this case, Your Grace. The rest lies up to you."
[Goddess of Wisdom watches you with a derisive smile.]
"Hey!"
[Defender of Divine Glory is shaking his head at you unbashedly lying to the child.]
"Will you two stop with the criticism? He’s the King candidate, and yes, I have selected Eric but he needs to be safe until Eric gets the throne and even after that..."
[Goddess of Wisdom wonders why you are keeping everyone at an arm’s length when you care about them.]
"Figure it out yourself."
Davian asked me a some more questions and I gave him a few white lies before he left and I was left alone.
I walked up to the reports that I had covered with the books and picked up the papers watching the insignia mark on it.
It was only faint when I had seen it for the first time but since my sharp dragon’s vision had caught it so I wasn’t dubious about it. It had to be this mark that I saw on the brooch that Clyde was wearing. It was also seared on Drac’s chest.
Nobody else seemed to have noticed it because of the dark and the bewildered surroundings. Besides that, none of us were expecting a Dragon species to show up as our opponent.
Regardless, of him being weak, he was still quite a strong opponent sent by the enemy. His roar was capable of breaking the thick wall in one attack. If it weren’t for the skill of Shield of Invulnerability then I’d be a goner too.
I folded that piece of paper and started making a plan about how I would deal with this situation. It was too big to handle alone but too dangerous to include a lot of people.
I would have to be careful on whom to take along or to go alone and assess the situation and investigate.
[Goddess of Wisdom advices you to be careful.]
[Defender of Divine Glory prompts that you have better chances at going alone because of your espionage skills.]
"Agreed... I don’t even have earpieces or any way of contacting with a team."
I was deep into my thoughts when the sudden dizziness hit me. I gripped the arm of the chair close to me and popped down as my vision went blurry for a moment before I saw the images flash before my eyes.
I blinked through the tears before my vision was restored and I sat in my spot completely disoriented before the notification popped in front of my eyes.
[Congratulations! You just received your first prophetic vision.]
"Prophetic..."
I suddenly recalled the reward that I had gotten after completing the task of saving the Second Wall from being destroyed.
I hadn’t checked its description because of the other things that required my attention but this thing seemed like I would take some time to get used to it.
I clicked on to the Prophetic Insight description and read about it.
[Prophetic Insight is the future vision that helps the host to see the glimpse of what is going to happen. It serves as a warning of the upcoming calamity so that the host can be warned beforehand and devise a plan for their advantage.
The prophetic insight also helps in anticipating the moves of the oppenent during battles so that the host can counterattack without receiving any damage.
There is but one drawback and that is that the visions are random, they can be of near future or of distant future. The Host cannot control the frequency and the period of time that the visions display.]
It sounded too-good-to-be-true but the vision from now really did make me feel as if I had gotten quite a high leveled skill.
Because, the images that had flashed before my eyes were that of a pair who could just make things way easier for me.
