The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 322: Little prince
Chapter 322: Little prince
"Have another," Edgar said, pushing a cup full of rum toward Tobias. "Is this what I am in for?" Edgar questioned, trying to drown out the sound of Hazel screaming in pain.
His wife Alessandra would give birth to their first child any day now so Edgar got a glimpse of his future.
Tobias took the cup from Edgar and drowned the rum. He needed something to keep him relaxed since they wouldn’t allow him inside the room to see Hazel. He was told that he would get in the way or make Hazel stressed out.
Though he was the king and they should listen to him, the servants tending to Hazel refused to let him inside. Tobias gave up trying to push his way in so he wouldn’t worry Hazel. She had enough to worry about now.
The rum was to keep him relaxed so he wouldn’t change his mind and enter the room when he heard her screaming. What fool came up with the idea that a husband was not to be at his wife’s side during this time?
"Her mother is inside. She will not let something happen to Hazel and you are not called. It was all happiness when looking forward to a child and now you are in this state. You look old already."
Tobias chuckled. "That’s funny coming from you when you are also expecting a child soon and you are older than me. Imagine how much older you would look then. I hadn’t thought a lot about the pain she would be in. Is it honestly worth it?"
Tobias was afraid as he knew the stories of women dying during childbirth. He did not want to lose Hazel or the baby. He had to walk into that room and find the two of them alive.
Edgar noticed Tobias’s leg shaking again. He took the empty cup from Tobias and poured water instead of rum. He had been secretly going back and forth between the two drinks and Tobias was too focused on Hazel to notice it.
"It will be fine. You have the best people in there with her and you did enough threatening that if something happens to her, you will have their heads. Where are the gifts you kept annoying me about? The ones you had prepared for the baby to have though it wouldn’t use them now?" Edgar asked.
He had not gone through months of hearing Tobias speak of these gifts not for them to be present when the moment was finally here.
Tobias covered his face with his hands. "I rushed here when they said it started. I left them in my private room."
"I will get them," Edgar volunteered, wanting to get away from the crowd that was forming. He was here to keep Tobias occupied while Hazel was inside, but he wasn’t interested in talking to others. "Try not to worry yourself too much. Hazel is the one doing all the hard work. What would it look like for you to go in there looking a mess?"
"Your mother is coming," Edgar informed Tobias. Edgar made a quick exit so he did not have to speak with Tabitha.
"Tobias. Duke Collins," Tabitha greeted the pair. "He always moves so fast when I come around. What news have you received from inside? Is she close?"
"I have not heard anything other than Hazel being in pain and that I must sit out here. Rum?" Tobias offered the cup Edgar had changed to water. frёewebnoѵēl.com
"Are you certain you want to drink while this is happening? Will you be able to stand when it comes time for you to go inside?" Tabitha questioned, worried he might miss meeting his baby when it was finally here because he would be drunk.
"I can handle this much and Edgar has been switching it with water. I wouldn’t sit here and drink to the point that I cannot go to my wife. I just needed a few to bear with hearing the pain she is in," said Tobias.
Tabitha looked at the door where Hazel was on the other side giving birth to the next prince or princess of the kingdom. "She is strong so nothing will happen. I came to look for Sofia. She may be curious about what is happening. Excuse me."
"If you came because you are concerned about her safety, I will not send you away. It is your grandchild that is inside. Stay if you wish," Tobias said.
Now was the time for him to be dwelling on the past and sending away someone who was concerned for Hazel and the baby. He needed everyone who was keeping Hazel in their prayers around as there was always a high chance he could lose his wife.
Tabitha cleared her throat, excited to stay. Their conversations had been few over the months and she had to enjoy the times when he would speak to her. They were getting better and hopefully, the arrival of this child would put them back to how they once were. "Very well, I shall stay here."
Tabitha sat down where Edgar had been sitting. "I hope it is not a big child. I was struggling because you were that way."
"Mother, can we speak of something more positive instead of the fact I might have placed a big baby in my wife?" Tobias asked.
"Right. It sounds like she is almost done. I can hear them yelling for warm water. Are you ready to become a father? Reading books and planning is one thing, but when the baby is here, you always seem to forget what you knew before. Have you found a wet nurse already?" Tabitha questioned since she was clueless about the matter.
"Hazel wishes to do that herself but we have someone in mind if she cannot produce-"
"King Tobias!"
Tobias stood as soon as the doors opened.
"Congratulations on a prince."
Tabitha smiled, relieved that the next king was already here. She went to congratulate Tobias but he was already heading inside. She could wait until he returned since there was much to celebrate.
"Thank you," Tobias said to those inside as he made his way to Hazel. They had kept their promise that he would walk into the room and see his wife still alive.
Still, his worrying did not stop because of how drained Hazel looked. She was deserving of any gift she wanted in return for what she endured.
Tobias sat on the bed, leaning over to kiss her forehead not minding the sweat. "You did well."
Hazel smiled, feeling better now that she could finally see Tobias. She had been thinking of him all through it and wished to see him. "Thank you. Honestly, they lied about the pain. It is far worse than described to me, but he is here."
Renee brought the now cleaned-up small prince to the bed for Tobias to hold. She would have everyone leave for a moment so the two could bond with the baby and then return so they could finish cleaning up Hazel.
Tobias held the baby as he practised. The loud cry made him smile as his son was making his entry into the world known.
Hazel enjoyed the sight before her. Now she had two boys she loved. "We must decide on a name."
"I think we should go with your pick. Tyrion Castro," Tobias decided. "Our little prince."
