Chapter 650: Chapter 372 Shen Jingxiu of the IF Line: Time_4
Wenyan could no longer hear what the young girl was saying behind her.
The wind rushed past her ears, deafening.
She took one step at a time towards the old man in front of her, across the span of fifty years.
With every step, it seemed as though a part of the memories and images in her mind were collapsing.
A parting that had lasted fifty years.
In her memory, her big brother was so young and striking. Fifty years had passed, and now that he was old and haggard before her, she hadn’t recognized him at all.
He had aged to such an extent.
Was Mother Su still around, was Mr. Shen still alive?
What about the others?
Wenyan felt as if she were walking on the fragmented ruins, each step taken with great difficulty.
Only when the elderly man turned around did Wenyan finally wipe away her tears.
"Hi, big brother."
Just like she had fifty years ago when she first appeared before Shen Jingxiu, she forced a smile and waved at him.
Differently this time, she was not holding a glass of orange juice with something extra added to it.
For her, returning to her original world had only taken a few short years.
But upon this reunion, everything had changed.
The ill Shen Jingxiu did not recognize the person before him, and it did not stir his emotions to hear Wenyan call him big brother.
However, he did remember the promise made to Wenyan just fifteen minutes earlier.
"Oh, the person picking me up is here, I’ll take you to my place, and you can call your friend."
"Alright."
Wenyan looked at Shen Jingxiu’s wrinkled face, and suddenly the pain burst from a specific point in her heart, filling her chest in an instant and making it hard for her to breathe.
She held back from crying and asked for his opinion, "Is it alright if I support you?"
He shook his head in refusal and slowly walked towards his horse: "I’ll lead Forty-six, Forty-six needs to follow me."
The young girl quickly walked up to Wenyan: "Mr. Shen and Forty-six both walk pretty slow; each time I come to take Mr. Shen home for a meal, I consider it a walk. Look how beautiful our scenery is here."
"Yes."
"You seem to have become upset all of a sudden. What’s wrong?"
"Fifty years, it’s been too long."
"Oh, you mean about Mr. Shen’s situation? Yes, it really has been too long."
"What about Mr. Shen’s family? Aside from the sister you mentioned he might be waiting for, his other family members? Haven’t they come to see him or persuaded him to leave this place?"
"They’ve tried; I’ve even met Mr. Shen’s niece and nephew, and they are both big business owners. There are also Mr. Shen’s brothers and sisters; they have all tried to persuade him, but he simply won’t listen to them. They are very busy, though, and don’t visit him often; some seem to have settled abroad too."
"And his parents?"
"Mr. Shen’s parents? Well, Mr. Shen is already so old, and his parents seem to have passed away over twenty years ago. I might not have been born then, or I was very young; I never met them, but my mother probably did. However, I heard that Mr. Shen’s mother was very beautiful, and their family all had a special affection for this tree. Everyone who came would come to see the tree."
The answer had been within Wenyan’s expectations all along.
Yet, upon confirmation that Su Yang and Shen Yuan had passed away over twenty years ago, Wenyan still felt immense distress, as if a lump of cotton was stuck in her throat, unable to be swallowed or spat out.
She didn’t know what to say and could only remain silent.
But at that moment, Shen Jingxiu gently touched Wenyan’s arm.
Wenyan turned her head to look at him, and he handed her his cellphone.
"Here, make your call."
Wenyan’s eyes were blurred with tears as she subconsciously took the phone from him.
Yet the young girl said: "Mr. Shen, you forgot to turn on the phone; you can’t make calls like that. You need to use your fingerprint to unlock it."
Shen Jingxiu seemed not to have heard the young girl at all and continued to lead Forty-six forward.
But Wenyan, holding the phone, skillfully entered a string of numbers.
With a ’whoosh’, Shen Jingxiu’s phone unlocked.
The young girl was flabbergasted: "How did you know how to unlock Mr. Shen’s phone? Did he tell you this as well? He still remembers his unlock code??"
Wenyan gave no reply.
Shen Jingxiu had told her the unlock code for his phone a very long time ago, or more precisely, in her timeline, just a few years prior.
But in his timeline, it had been fifty years ago.
Wenyan opened the photo album, and aside from numerous pictures of the Wind Chime Tree and a few sparse landscape images, there was no sight of him at all.
