The Obsessive Tycoon Claims the Deserted Heiress-Chapter 47 - 046: The Repairman Who Can’t Speak
Chapter 47 - 046: The Repairman Who Can't Speak
The person who opened the door was evidently his bodyguard, with a massive build and the air of a trained fighter.
His sharp eyes scrutinized Yu Zhi up and down, his voice cold: "What do you want?"
Yu Zhi raised a box in one hand while pointing at the air conditioner behind him with the other hand. Worried he wouldn't understand, she pulled out a wrench from the box to show him.
"Can't you talk?" The bodyguard stared at her suspiciously, as though trying to bore holes into her with his gaze.
Yu Zhi nodded slightly. While under his piercing stare, she casually swung the wrench at face level toward the interior of the house.
"Are you a repair technician?" The bodyguard retreated two steps discreetly, bombarding her with questions: "What are you fixing? Work ID? Who asked you to come?"
At those words, Yu Zhi tightened her grip on the wrench. A glimmer of impatience flashed through her eyes, hidden beneath the shadow of her cap.
Just as she resolved to take action and smash the wrench across his forehead, a heavy voice echoed from inside the house: "Who's here?"
"President Meng, it's a repair technician," the bodyguard immediately answered, turning his head.
While his attention was diverted, Yu Zhi seized the opportunity to slip past him and walk straight into the house.
With her head lowered, she moved directly forward without looking to the sides, stopping at the air conditioner.
Spotting this, the bodyguard quickly followed and stood in front of her, blocking any movement.
He then bent over slightly in the direction of the voice: "President Meng, my apologies. I didn't anticipate her barging in like that."
"No problem."
Meng Zheng held a cup of tea in his palm, taking a small sip before glancing indifferently at Yu Zhi: "Fixing the air conditioner?"
"She's mute," the bodyguard interjected before Yu Zhi could gesture.
"Is that so?" Meng Zheng's discerning eyes sparkled for a moment, and then he sighed lightly, "That's a pity."
He remained silent for a while, handing the cup toward the back right and waving the bodyguard to come to his side.
As for Yu Zhi, who was busy tinkering with the toolbox, he hadn't given her a second glance, let alone paid her any attention.
The faint sound of movement arose, and Yu Zhi's small ears twitched as she sensed the positions of everyone inside the room.
Without drawing any attention, she tapped her watch face until the Yellow Star light shifted to red.
"Bang——"
She swung the wrench at the chandelier above, plunging the room into sudden darkness.
Ear-piercing screams mixed with the sound of shattering glass resounded like a haunting, stormy symphony.
**
Meanwhile.
Shi Wei lounged lazily on a recliner, his long legs propped up on the table, his expression indifferently watching Xu Linchuan seated opposite him.
"So you're saying they're playing the thief crying 'stop thief' game?" He turned the circular base of his lighter and lit the cigarette perched between his fingers.
Xu Linchuan responded with a faint affirmative: "I specifically went to inspect the Meng Family. Though the imitation is quite good, the carved force is heavier compared to the Prince of Divine Thief's technique."
As he finished speaking, Jin Yunzhi leaned forward with curiosity.
He moved closer to the two, his face filled with confusion: "Why would someone do that?"
"No idea," he admitted, equally puzzled.
Master Meng has only two children and maintains harmonious relations with the extended family.
If someone within the family took the heirloom, why go to such lengths to frame the Divine Thief?
But if it wasn't an insider, he couldn't figure out their reasons or objectives either.
Shi Wei raised an eyebrow: "Did you tell the Meng Family about this?"
"No," Xu Linchuan sighed helplessly, "I lack evidence; even if I told them, they might not believe me."
"Hmm, this matter you should first——"
"Knock knock knock——"
A gentle knocking abruptly interrupted Shi Wei's words.
The room fell into a momentary silence as everyone directed their gazes toward the source of the sound but refrained from making a move.
As the knocking persisted, Jin Yunzhi promptly stood up: "I'll go."
Walking up to the door, he opened it, bending slightly to meet a pair of clear, luminous almond-shaped eyes.
The stranger at the door was unfamiliar to him, Jin Yunzhi hesitated briefly, then politely said: "Hello, can I help you?"
His voice carried a gentle warmth, like a mountain stream, invoking a sense of comfort.
Yu Zhi took a moment to catch her breath before pulling out an array of colorful elongated products from her backpack: "Interested in buying e-cigarettes? Every flavor available."
Jin Yunzhi blinked, slightly surprised that someone at Lanting Square was actually selling things door-to-door.
He glanced at the items in her hand and declined with a smile: "No need, thank you."
Yu Zhi pressed her lips together. She glanced at the right-hand veranda, calculating that she still had time, and prepared to leave for the next private suite.
But just as she turned to move, a familiar voice from inside halted her: "Wait a second."
The instant the voice reached her ears, Yu Zhi's crystalline gaze froze, before ripples of subtle emotion reflected within, akin to a sudden spring warmth after a prolonged winter chill.
Shi Wei had already recognized her when she first spoke. As she approached, he also stood up.
"Why are you here?"
He naturally grasped her wrist, guiding her to sit on a chair.
Yu Zhi placed her items on the table, slightly bowing her head: "I'm here to sell stuff."
Her voice was hoarse, her breathing uneven, as if she had been moving around vigorously before this.
Shi Wei's gaze swept over her once more, something flickering in his mind, but he chose not to address it.
"Drink some water first." He handed her a glass, watching as she gulped it down without hesitation.
Jin Yunzhi was completely baffled by this exchange. He cast a glance at Xu Linchuan, silently asking what was happening.
Xu Linchuan responded with a quiet smile, then turned to Yu Zhi: "What a coincidence, we meet again."
"Yes, quite the coincidence."
Yu Zhi gently curled her lips. She placed the cup back down and settled her hands on the straps of her backpack resting on her knees, her posture exuding both ease and a hint of obedience.
Shi Wei gave Xu Linchuan a quick look, his tone casual: "You've run into her recently?"
It sounded like an idle remark, devoid of any noticeable emotion.
Xu Linchuan took a sip of tea and replied softly: "Last night, near her neighborhood. We just chatted for a while."
Upon hearing that, Shi Wei understood exactly which 'neighborhood' he was referring to.
A place even he himself had never visited.
Not wanting to continue the topic, Shi Wei casually picked up a blue e-cigarette on the table and glanced to her side: "What flavor is this?"
Yu Zhi: "..."
Her eyelashes trembled visibly. She hesitated before answering uncertainly: "Blueberry?"
Shi Wei opened the cigarette cap and sniffed, a light chuckle escaping his lips: "It smells more like grape to me."
Yu Zhi's lips moved slightly, deliberating how she could recover the situation, when the sound of hurried footsteps resounded from outside.
Within mere seconds, someone knocked loudly on the door of Meiyue Pavilion.
"Who could it be now?" Jin Yunzhi grumbled under his breath as he walked toward the door.
