Chapter 72 - 071: Kiss me and I will tell you

Yu Zhi's cheeks flushed as she gently pushed his shoulder, "Move over a bit."

The warmth at her waist seemed to seep into her heart, a sensation she'd never experienced before. It left her feeling uneasy, yet stirred a trace of secret delight.

Looking at her enticingly pink cheeks, Shi Wei couldn't resist the urge to lean forward and take a playful bite, leaving a mark that was exclusively his.

His hands tightened slightly, holding her firmly in his embrace, leaving her no room to move. "Zhizhi, be good. Don't be angry," he said, his slightly hoarse voice tinged with indulgence.

"Hmm." Yu Zhi's hand slid down from his shoulder, her lips pressing together as she lowered her head to avoid his gaze.

Honestly, even she didn't quite understand what she was upset about. If it was about the small daisies, that hardly seemed to warrant it.

Shi Wei seized the moment when she wasn't paying attention and placed a kiss on the top of her head. Then, he picked her up and carried her out of the bedroom.

Startled by his sudden action, Yu Zhi instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.

When she realized what she was doing, she quickly let go, muttering softly, "I can walk."

Shi Wei pretended not to hear her as he made his way downstairs at a brisk pace.

Only when they reached the villa's front door did he set her down.

Covering her eyes with one hand, Shi Wei leaned down and whispered against her ear, "No peeking."

He wrapped an arm around her waist as they walked along the cobblestone path leading to the backyard.

"Where are you taking me?" Yu Zhi's lashes fluttered as she tried to sneak a glance through the gaps in his fingers.

Her butterfly-like lashes moved enticingly with each blink, tugging at Shi Wei's heartstrings.

"You'll see soon enough." As they reached two steps, Shi Wei tightened his hold on her waist and lifted her effortlessly.

The air was filled with the fragrant scent of flowers mixed with the earthy aroma of soil, a smell so familiar that Yu Zhi's heartbeat inexplicably quickened.

As the hand covering her eyes moved away, the backyard filled with small daisies unfolded before her eyes.

Yu Zhi's gaze brightened, her earlier disappointment vanishing entirely, replaced by uncontainable joy.

She crouched down, gently brushing her fingers against the petals of a daisy before tilting her head up to look at him. "When did you buy these?"

He hadn't mentioned it when he returned, and she'd thought he'd truly forgotten.

"Want to know?" Shi Wei crouched down beside her, his eyes fixed on hers, which sparkled with ripples of emotion. He pointed to his left cheek. "Kiss me, and I'll tell you."

Yu Zhi's eyes flickered with surprise as she realized he wasn't joking. She suddenly felt at a loss.

"I don't want to know anymore," she murmured, her voice as soft as a mosquito's buzz, her blushing cheeks betraying her embarrassment.

Shi Wei chuckled silently, leaning closer as he cupped her face. "But I want you to know."

As she lifted her head, Shi Wei planted a kiss on her cheek, and, dissatisfied, he decided to gently suck on the spot that carried a faintly sweet fragrance.

Caught completely off guard by his actions, Yu Zhi lost her balance in her panic, falling backward.

Shi Wei quickly reached out to stabilize her, but instead, she ended up pulling him down with her.

The two of them landed amidst the sea of daisies. A cool breeze brushed past, lifting a strand of her hair that tangled itself with the button on his shirt near his collarbone.

His hot breath caressed Yu Zhi's face as she glanced at him, her eyelashes fluttering nervously. "You... you need to get up."

"My leg's asleep," Shi Wei frowned, appearing slightly discomforted.

"Then—"

Shi Wei cut her off, burying his face in the curve of her neck. "Stay still for a moment, let me recover."

Pressed so closely together, the lingering gap between them vanished entirely.

Yu Zhi turned her head away, focusing on the daisies in an attempt to calm her racing heart.

After nearly two minutes, she spoke softly, "Are you okay now?"

"Not yet, give me a little longer." Shi Wei savored the moment, a subtle smile curving his lips where she couldn't see.

Her fingers, resting against the soil, curled slightly. "There are small stones on the ground."

"Then let's shift a bit."

"I can't move..."

Shi Wei shifted them to the side as he held onto her. "Does this feel better now?"

"You're pressing against me."

"I'm not."

"You are... Don't move, it hurts."

Shi Wei raised his eyebrows and glanced down. "I'll get rid of it right now."

Yu Zhi waited for a moment, growing impatient. "Why haven't you moved it yet?"

"Done. Does it still hurt?"

"No, it's okay now."

"Sorry about that, I'll be more careful in the future." Shi Wei tossed the troublesome belt aside.

As he readied to lean in again, the ambiguous exchange from earlier replayed in his mind.

Shi Wei's body stiffened instantly. He glanced at their somewhat compromising position and cleared his throat awkwardly.

The pretense of his numbed leg couldn't hold up any longer. He grabbed Yu Zhi's wrist, pulling her up. Noticing the dirt on her back, he gently brushed her off.

Yu Zhi, still reeling from the earlier intimacy, pointed at the daisies to ease the tension. "Why are there so many purple ones?"

Previously, at Elder Wu's place, she'd only seen yellow, white, and red varieties.

Shi Wei's eyes flickered at her question, his expression calm and composed. "I specially ordered them. Do you like them?"

"Mm." Yu Zhi nodded enthusiastically.

Among all the colors, the purple ones were indeed the most striking, blooming more vibrantly than the rest.

"That's good." Shi Wei's lips curled slightly, but he didn't immediately tell her the meaning behind the purple daisies.

He would wait—wait for her to understand his feelings.

After lunch, Yu Zhi greeted Shi Wei before retreating to her room for a nap.

Leaning against the bed's headboard, she reflected on the day's events, her thoughts swirling into a chaotic mess.

She couldn't quite pinpoint the reason, but when dealing with other matters, she was always calm and composed. Yet, when it came to Shi Wei, she often found herself at a loss.

Just as her face showed signs of worry, her wristwatch began to vibrate incessantly.

She retrieved the laptop from her bag and placed it on her lap. After pressing the connect button, an exquisitely beautiful face appeared on the screen.

Yu Zhi looked at the screen, "Did you receive the package?"

"Mm." Ruan Yuan blew a kiss at the camera. "Thank you."

She looked noticeably more spirited compared to last time.

Yu Zhi curved her lips into a faint smile. "Not busy today?"

"So-so." Ruan Yuan held a coffee mug and walked over to the window as she spoke, "How about you? How are things lately?"
