Chapter 84 - 083: Did you arrange the birthday party?
Yu Zhi suddenly laughed, her gaze mocking as she looked at her: "Then why are you still sitting with me?"
"I don't believe what they're saying." Qin Huai furrowed his brow, seething with anger. "It must be someone slandering you again in secret. It's just despicable!"
The last incident was the same; clearly, she had done nothing, yet the students on the forum exaggerated it beyond recognition.
Yu Zhi snatched the tightly clutched phone from her hand. She glanced briefly at the title and the poster, then exited the page.
"They're just clowns, not worth paying attention to." Her demeanor was as calm as ever, as if she hadn't given the matter any thought at all.
Qin Huai slumped over the desk, leaning closer to her. "But now the whole school is talking about it. Aren't you going to clarify?"
"What they posted on the forum is true."
"I think—" Qin Huai cut herself off mid-sentence, her eyes widening belatedly. "Wha... what is true?"
Yu Zhi propped her chin on one hand, her smile enigmatic. "Unlucky Star."
Qin Huai: "..."
She stared blankly at Yu Zhi's profile, as if struggling to digest the words she'd just heard.
"Could there be some misunderstanding?" Qin Huai still found it hard to believe.
Yu Zhi deliberated for a moment, a shadow passing through her eyes. "Perhaps."
Seeing her open a book and begin writing, Qin Huai decided not to press further, though her inner worry only deepened.
Not long after the first-period bell rang, Yu Xinman appeared alone at the door of Class Seven's classroom.
She walked straight to Yu Zhi's seat and tapped on the desk. "Come out with me."
Yu Zhi's almond-shaped eyes lifted slightly. Seeing her once-vibrant face now pale and haggard, drained of all color, a trace of interest flickered in her gaze.
Unhurriedly, she stood up. Just as she was about to follow her out, a male voice reached her ears.
"Where are you taking her?" Lu Li, who had approached at some point, now stood in front of Yu Zhi, his expression wary as he stared at the other girl.
His unfamiliar gaze stabbed at Yu Xinman's heart, and she let out a self-deprecating laugh. "Of course, I'm taking my sister to discuss family matters. What are you so worried about?"
She wasn't even trying to appear feeble, yet this image of her was more pitiful than ever.
Lu Li was momentarily choked by her words but maintained his guarded stance, making it clear he wouldn't let her pass without a satisfactory explanation.
Yu Xinman clenched her palms tightly, shifting her gaze to Yu Zhi. "Are you coming?"
"Yes." Yu Zhi agreed, signaling Lu Li with her eyes to reassure him.
As the two stepped forward together, Yu Xinman and Lu Li brushed past each other. At that moment, he whispered in a voice only they could hear, "You better not have any designs on her."
The open warning halted Yu Xinman's steps for a moment. As crescent shapes formed in her palm from clenching too tightly, her fingers turned white. She nodded briefly before continuing.
The small grove.
The breeze was cool, rustling softly through the surrounding shrubs.
Two girls of similar age sat opposite each other at a stone table, their skirts lifted gently by the wind, forming faint ripples.
Yu Xinman lowered her gaze, concealing the hatred in her eyes. Her tone was devoid of emotion. "It was you, wasn't it?"
"What?"
"The incident on the night of the birthday banquet."
"What exactly are you referring to?" Yu Zhi raised an eyebrow, her smile full of disdain.
Yu Xinman abruptly looked up, her rounded eyes now pitch-black, like a bottomless abyss.
Her expression twisted slightly. "Yu Zhi, I never thought you could be so ruthless."
"Is that so?" Yu Zhi crossed her legs, casually observing her. "You're the one who drugged me, who orchestrated the kidnapping. So, who's the truly ruthless one here?"
"Hah." Yu Xinman let out a cold laugh, her fists trembling as if suppressing something. "But you didn't suffer any harm, did you? And me? Do you even know what I've been through these past two days? Aren't you afraid I'll tell Dad everything?"
Just thinking about being knocked unconscious, only to wake up in the Nightclub surrounded by a roomful of ugly men staring at her with lecherous eyes and whispering amongst themselves, made her feel nauseated to the point of vomiting.
"No." Yu Zhi cast her a sideways glance, her attitude incredibly arrogant, as though she didn't take anyone seriously. "Do you think I care about Yu Baisheng?"
These words completely broke the last vestiges of Yu Xinman's rationality.
She stood up and moved to Yu Zhi's side, her eyes bloodshot. "The photos! Give me the photos!"
Just as she reached out to grab her arm, Yu Zhi slapped her hand away with a sharp "smack."
"I don't have the photos you're looking for." Yu Zhi gave her a gentle push, causing her to fall to the ground.
Frowning, she dusted off her arms lightly, as though she'd been touched by something filthy, full of disdain.
"That's impossible!" Yu Xinman shrieked, her voice sharp. She staggered back to her feet and lunged towards Yu Zhi again. "Give them to me—give me the photos!"
She raised her hand, aiming to slap the face she both envied and despised. The so-called elegance and gentleness of a "socialite" had long been discarded.
Yu Zhi caught her wrist, and with a crisp "crack," her arm bent at an unnatural angle, completely limp.
"Try it again, and you won't be this lucky." Yu Zhi shoved her away forcefully, gazing down at her from above. Her eyes were filled with icy contempt, like blades slicing through to her very core.
Screams and sobs echoed through the small grove, carried by the wind.
Watching Yu Zhi's retreating figure, Yu Xinman's hatred grew larger and larger, consuming her from within.
Clutching her twisted wrist, cold sweat dripped from Yu Xinman's forehead. Her pale lips curled into a sinister, chilling smile.

Lu Li stood at the classroom door, repeatedly glancing towards the end of the corridor. With his hands in his pockets, he tapped his foot on the floor impatiently, his unease evident.
"Brother Lu, what are you looking at?" Lin Chengyu patted his shoulder, following his line of sight.
"Nothing." Lu Li's response was indifferent, even his tone carrying a hint of perfunctory dismissal.
The moment that familiar figure appeared in his line of sight, he straightened his posture, shaking off Lin Chengyu's hand with a quick shrug of his shoulders.
Lu Li briskly walked towards the girl, looking her over anxiously. "Are you okay? Did she trouble you?"
Ever since Yu Xinman confessed to him, he had been worried that she would cause trouble for Yu Zhi.
Nobody knew how worried he'd been the moment the two had left the classroom together.
Worried she might be bullied. Worried she might be humiliated.
Yu Zhi shook her head, her expression calm. "The one who has problems is her."
