Chapter 103: Ch 103: Rose Grayson- Part 2

In the end, Selene was not able to shake off Zara fully and she ended up dragging the other female to a cafe.

Selene sat in a small café with Zara. She held a warm cup of coffee in her hands. Zara looked at her, a bit confused.

"Coffee? You rarely drink coffee. Tell me truthfully - something is stressing you out, right? Just the fact that you agreed to spend money on coffee is proof enough."

Zara said, raising an eyebrow.

Selene gave her a small smile. She almost flinched when she was reminded of the coffee price she had purchased. frёeωebɳovel.com

’Shit is expensive during the apocalypse. I wonder how much I will spend on everything once this fall starts. Thankfully, money is starting to lose it’s value so I don’t feel as depressed running out of it.’

It was hard to reason, but thinking all this was enough for Selene to be able to distract herself.

"I felt like trying something new. You should try it too."

Zara shrugged.

"Okay, I guess. If you don’t want to say, then I won’t force you to."

She ordered a coffee as well, even if it was not her usual choice.

They sat by the window, and Selene’s eyes kept darting around.

She took small sips of her coffee while keeping her Insight active.

Truly, the standard of coffee had fallen. She surely had better before-

’Fuck! I am slowly becoming more and more like a complaining lady. I need to stop finding faults in everything.

So Selene distracted herself with someone else instead of thinking and complaining.

Her senses stretched out, searching for any sign of Rose Grayson. She wanted to make sure he was not nearby.

After a while, she relaxed. She did not feel Rose’s presence. The tightness in her shoulders eased.

But Zara was watching her closely.

"Selene, what’s going on? You look... weird."

Selene forced a laugh.

"Nothing. I’m fine. You don’t need to worry."

Zara did not look convinced.

"Well, I am worried. You’re acting strange."

Selene sighed. She knew Zara would not drop the subject.

"I’m just... avoiding someone. The leader of ’Justice.’ I can sense him in the area."

Zara’s eyes widened.

"Rose Grayson? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?"

"I didn’t want to worry you."

Selene said, looking down at her cup.

Zara frowned.

"You should have told me. We could have made a plan."

Selene bit her lip. Maybe Zara was right. She should not have tried to handle this alone.

They finished their coffee, and Selene stood up.

"Let’s go. I want to check the site again."

Zara nodded, and they left the café. As they walked, Selene kept her Insight open. She reached out with her senses, searching for Rose’s presence. But there was nothing.

"It’s clear."

Selene said. She let her guard down a bit, feeling a small sense of relief.

They walked through the quiet streets, heading toward the site of the future help center. The sun was lower now, casting long shadows on the ground.

But as they turned a corner, a hand shot out and grabbed Selene’s wrist. She spun around, her breath catching in her throat.

Rose Grayson stood behind her. His face was flushed, and beads of sweat dotted his forehead. His grip on her wrist was tight, almost painful.

"Miss Shadow, I finally found you."

He said, his voice rough.

Selene tried to pull her hand back.

"Let go, Mister Grayson."

But his fingers only tightened around her wrist. His knuckles turned white.

"Please. Just listen to me."

He whispered, stepping closer.

Zara moved to Selene’s side.

"Hey! Let her go!"

She reached out, but Rose did not even look at her. His eyes were locked on Selene.

Selene forced herself to stay calm.

"Mister Grayson, you’re hurting me. Let go."

He shook his head.

"I can’t. I won’t. You keep running away."

"I’m not running. I’m just... living my life. You need to stop this."

Selene said, keeping her voice steady.

Rose’s expression twisted.

"But you don’t understand. You belong with me. I’m the only one who truly understands you."

Zara shot Selene a worried look before she whispered.

"Selene, what do we do?"

Selene took a deep breath. She needed to stay in control.

"Mister Grayson, this isn’t the place for this. You’re causing a scene."

Around them, a few people had stopped to watch. Their curious stares made the situation worse.

Rose seemed to notice them too. His grip loosened, but only a little.

"Then come with me. Just for a moment. We need to talk."

Selene knew going with him would be a mistake. But if she pulled too hard, he might react badly. She needed to find a way out.

"Okay. But not here. Let’s move somewhere quiet."

She said softly.

Rose’s face brightened.

"Yes, yes. That’s all I ask."

She nodded, then glanced at Zara. Her friend looked ready to fight, but Selene gave her a small shake of the head.

As they took a step forward, Selene shifted her weight. She twisted her arm, slipping out of Rose’s grasp. The movement was quick and sharp.

Rose’s eyes widened.

"Miss Shadow—"

Before he could finish, Zara stepped between them.

"Stay back!"

Selene backed away, her pulse racing. "Mister Grayson, you need to leave. This isn’t right."

His face fell. He looked lost, his hands reaching out but finding nothing.

"I... I just wanted to talk."

Selene’s voice hardened.

"Then ask, don’t grab. You crossed a line."

He opened his mouth to argue, but the looks from the gathering crowd seemed to weigh on him. He took a shaky step back.

"I apologize. Perhaps, we should talk about this later after all."

He whispered. But his eyes still held that unsettling light.

Selene stood next to Zara, her body tense as Rose Grayson lingered nearby.

The dream from last night still clung to her mind, filling her with an uneasy chill. She did her best to hide it, but Zara noticed.

Zara moved slightly in front of Selene, her stance protective. Her expression turned sharp as she glared at Rose.

"Is there something you need?"
