Chapter 108: Ch 108: Found Out- Part 2

Ethan stood between Selene and Isabelle, his stance relaxed but his expression sharp.

Lightning crackled around Isabelle’s hands, illuminating the cave with flickers of blue and white.

She wore a smirk that was equal parts confidence and cruelty, her curls wild and her eyes filled with challenge.

"Run!" frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Ethan said, his voice steady.

He didn’t take his eyes off Isabelle, but his hand moved behind him, a silent gesture urging Selene to go.

Selene hesitated.

Her instincts screamed at her to stay, to help him, but logic won over.

Ethan was right—she would only hold him back. But that didn’t mean she’d leave him without support.

"I will support you from afar. Make sure you come back safe."

Selene told him before she added Ethan to her Amplify spot and then ran.

"Not needed, but appreciated."

Ethan replied back. His tone was light, but Selene could see the steel in his eyes.

With a reluctant nod, Selene turned and sprinted toward the exit. She didn’t look back, knowing that if she did, she might lose her resolve to leave him behind.

The clash of lightning and steel echoed through the cave as the battle began.

Isabelle wasted no time, launching a barrage of lightning bolts toward Ethan. Each strike crackled through the air, the smell of ozone thick and sharp.

Ethan moved with practiced ease, dodging to the side as stone exploded where he had been a moment before.

He was quick—too quick—and Isabelle’s expression tightened as her attacks found only empty air.

"You think you can outrun me, little rat? I’ll shock you to ash."

She sneered.

Ethan chuckled, his voice a smooth drawl.

"Big talk for someone who hasn’t landed a hit yet."

Isabelle’s face twisted in anger. She raised both hands, and arcs of electricity danced between her fingers.

The cave lit up as she unleashed a storm of lightning, the walls cracking under the force of her power.

But Ethan didn’t flinch.

He darted forward, slipping through the maze of deadly light with an agility that bordered on supernatural.

His blade flashed, a silver arc in the dimness, and Isabelle gasped as a shallow cut bloomed on her arm.

"First blood. At this rate, I won’t even need to use any of my abilities on you."

He said, giving her a mocking bow.

Isabelle’s lips peeled back in a snarl. "You’ll pay for that."

While the battle raged on, Selene slipped through the shadows of the cave.

She moved quickly but carefully, every step deliberate.

She knew the guards outside would be a problem, and she needed to get past them without alerting Isabelle to her escape.

The moment she reached the cave’s entrance, a shout went up.

The guards spotted her, their expressions shifting from boredom to determination. They raised their weapons, abilities sparking to life.

"There she is! Don’t let her get away!"

Selene’s heart pounded.

She bolted to the side, slipping behind a large boulder as blasts of fire and ice hit the ground where she had stood.

The heat of the flames singed the air, and frost bit at her skin as she maneuvered through the chaos.

Her small size and quick reflexes worked to her advantage.

While the guards prepared another wave of attacks, Selene darted out of their line of sight.

She slipped between rocks, rolled under fallen logs, and slid through narrow gaps until she was out of immediate danger.

When she finally found a good vantage point, she reached into her inventory and pulled out a small, cylindrical device.

The sleeping gas bomb was a last-resort tool, but it seemed today was the day to use it.

She pressed the activation button and rolled the bomb toward the guards. A soft hiss filled the air, followed by a cloud of pale, greenish smoke.

One by one, the guards dropped, their bodies crumpling to the ground as sleep claimed them.

Selene didn’t waste time.

She dashed to her SUV, throwing open the door and sliding into the driver’s seat. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as she caught her breath, her mind racing with worry.

She gripped the steering wheel, staring at the cave entrance.

The minutes dragged by, stretching into an hour, and still, there was no sign of Ethan.

Her fingers itched to start the car, to go back and find him, but she forced herself to stay put.

The only comfort she had was the lingering glow of Amplify. As long as her ability was still active, it meant Ethan was still alive.

’But what if Ethan is hurt? What if he needs help?’

Finally, the weight of her worry became too much. She reached for the door handle, her mind set on going back for him, when a figure emerged from the shadows.

"Ethan!"

He walked toward her, unharmed and looking as if he’d just come back from a casual stroll. His clothes were a little dusty, his hair tousled, but his expression was as cheerful as ever.

"Miss me?"

He asked, leaning against the open car door.

Selene’s relief was almost palpable.

"What took you so long?"

Ethan shrugged.

"Had to make sure our lightning friend wouldn’t follow us."

Her eyes narrowed.

"Isabelle... What happened to her?"

A mischievous grin spread across his face.

"Let’s just say she won’t be bothering us for a while. Gave her a good reminder that monopolizing dungeons isn’t as easy as she thought."

Selene studied him, searching for any signs of injury or distress, but he seemed genuinely fine. His confidence eased some of the knots in her stomach, and she slumped back into her seat.

"You had me worried."

She admitted, her voice soft.

Ethan’s expression shifted, a rare moment of seriousness crossing his features.

"I wouldn’t leave you hanging, Selene. Not now, not ever."

The weight of his words hung between them, unspoken promises and old wounds lingering just beneath the surface. Selene turned the key in the ignition, the SUV rumbling to life.

"Let’s go home."

She said, pulling away from the dungeon and leaving the dangers behind.

As they drove, Selene couldn’t help but glance at Ethan. She still had questions—about Isabelle, about the fight, about the cryptic look in his eyes—but for now, she let them rest.

They had made it out alive. That was enough.
