Chapter 170: Ch 170: Exploding Tension- Part 4

The intruder ran as fast as she could to get out of the danger zone.

’I need to get out of here. If I am caught, then I will never be able to repay my debts.’

Rize Spencer sighed heavily, her mood growing worse by the second as she reflected on the series of unfortunate events that had completely ruined her day.

First, her damn superior had assigned her to infiltrate a base she knew absolutely nothing about.

The mission? Steal whatever secrets she could find.

No prior research, no blueprints, no insider information—just a vague command and an expectation to succeed.

Worse of all, she had no backup or support. If she was caught, then Rize would be done for.

She would have refused, if not for the hefty sum she had been promised.

But just as she had signed the deal and sealed her fate, the economy decided to betray her.

"Money’s losing its value. If you want to stay ahead, you’ll need to earn more—a lot more. I need to get rid of the debt before money is replaced by something else entirely."

She had been told that a new method of payment and value would be put in place soon.

Rize had almost punched the wall in frustration when she first heard that.

She had been trapped. Forced into this ridiculous job, and even then, it wasn’t enough to settle her ever-growing debts.

Rize gritted her teeth, but there was nothing she could do about it.

So, she gave in.

She entered the base, hoping she could get in and out before anything went wrong.

But of course, her luck was absolute garbage.

The very day she sneaked inside, a riot broke out.

She had nearly gotten caught in the middle of it, dodging fists and stumbling through the chaos as people screamed and fought around her.

’Unbelievable.’

She had barely made it out alive, escaping the worst of it only to run straight into someone while trying to reach the central zone.

She could still feel the sting of frustration from that moment.

She had spent months training for stealth missions, honing her ability to blend in, yet somehow, she had been unlucky enough to collide with a random stranger like some clumsy idiot.

It all felt so unfair.

She cursed under her breath, stalking through the base, trying to blend into the crowd and disappear.

Her best bet now was to wait until the day ended before attempting to slip out unnoticed.

The base security had been too tight, and with all the chaos earlier, she knew that trying to escape now would only draw attention.

She hated it, but she had no choice.

Rize sighed in defeat.

This meant she would have to try again another day.

It wasn’t a total failure—she had gathered some information, mapped out potential escape routes, and even managed to see a few places where she could possibly break in later.

But still, she hated having to leave empty-handed.

As the sun began to set and the day’s tension finally eased, Rize felt it was safe to sneak out.

She casually made her way toward an exit, keeping her head low, her posture relaxed but ready to bolt if necessary.

But then—

She felt eyes on her.

For a brief moment, the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end.

’Is someone watching me?’

Her instincts told her to stay alert, but when she quickly glanced around, she saw nothing out of the ordinary.

A few people looked in her direction, but that wasn’t surprising—she was good-looking, and people tended to stare.

She scoffed.

Probably just some idiot checking her out.

She rolled her shoulders and continued walking, ignoring the feeling.

But in the shadows, Selene was watching her.

Recognizing her.

Selene’s heart pounded in her chest as she watched Rize Spencer move through the crowd.

She hadn’t expected to see her here.

Rize was someone Selene had once been close to—a pitiful barrier maker, one Selene had spent so much time searching for in her past life, only to find Orion instead.

And now, suddenly, Rize appeared here?

It was too suspicious.

Especially since she was someone who could do anything for money.

Selene’s gaze darkened as she turned to Ethan and Zara, lowering her voice.

"Follow her. Don’t get too close, but watch her movements. I need to know why she’s here."

She instructed.

Ethan and Zara exchanged a glance before silently slipping into the shadows, tailing Rize without a word.

Rize, completely unaware, continued toward the outer perimeter of the base.

She walked quickly, avoiding eye contact, her movements calculated but jittery.

Ethan frowned as he whispered through the comms.

"She looks nervous."

Zara hummed in agreement.

"Yeah. She’s definitely on edge. Either she knows she’s being watched, or she’s just naturally like this."

They watched as Rize hurried toward a parked black car, the emblem of the Vale family displayed prominently on its side.

Ethan’s eyebrows raised in interest.

"Well, well. Looks like she has some high-profile connections"

He muttered.

Zara clicked her tongue.

"Want to follow her?"

Ethan turned to Selene, waiting for her decision.

Selene hesitated.

The Vale family.

That name alone was enough to make her pause.

It wasn’t just any noble family—it was one of the most powerful, with deep ties in business, politics, and underground dealings. frёewebηovel.cѳm

If Rize was working with them, then this wasn’t just some random infiltration mission.

But should they follow her?

Selene clenched her fists, thinking fast.

Rize had once been someone she admired—but now? She was a potential threat.

If she was really working for the Vale family, then following her could expose them.

It was too risky right now.

Selene took a deep breath before finally speaking.

"No. Let her go."

She said.

Ethan and Zara both looked surprised but didn’t argue.

As they watched, the black car pulled away, disappearing into the night.

Selene’s eyes narrowed.

This wasn’t over.

She would figure out why Rize was here—and if she was an enemy or not.
