The Spare's Second Chance in Apocalypse-Chapter 205: Ch : What’s the Solution? - Part 1
Chapter 205: Ch 205: What’s the Solution? - Part 1
Selene stood in the middle of the room, her breathing steady but her body tired.
There had been too many, but thankfully, Selene had the additional buff of the Amplify ability which allowed her to borrow other’s powers....as long as she designated them as her targets.
She had just borrowed Noah and Nora’s powers to take down a wave of monsters and it felt a little exhausting.
Ice and fire danced at her fingertips, their raw energy coursing through her veins. The borrowed power felt heavy on her body, but she pushed through the strain.
"Still holding up. Maybe I am more adapt at this awakener thing than I first thought."
She muttered, surprised at herself.
Despite the penalty that came with using powers that weren’t hers, she could still put out a lot of energy. The monsters didn’t stand a chance.
With the area cleared, Selene moved forward, stepping into the next room.
It was another white room.
The cold, lifeless walls stretched out around her, giving her an unsettling feeling.
"This place feels like a hospital room, but somehow even more...depressing. I don’t think I will ever get used to places like these."
For a second, a flash of a similar white appeared in front of Selene’s eyes when she blinked, but it was gone as soon as it appeared.
Selene quickly shook her head to get rid of the white and focus.
In the center stood several rock statues, arranged in a formation.
Selene narrowed her eyes and stepped closer.
As she climbed up to get a better view, she realized the statues were arranged like a chessboard.
On either side of the board were two massive statues sitting in commanding positions. They looked like kings overseeing their armies.
A system popped up as soon as she noticed the state of that board.
[Choose a side.]
Selene’s eyes flicked between the two statues. One side looked slightly more advantageous. The formation seemed stronger, more solid. Trusting her instincts, Selene chose that side.
[Make the first move.]
Selene frowned.
Chess wasn’t her strength. She knew the basics but had never been good at strategy.
As her eyes swept over the board again, a strange feeling crawled over her skin.
Something’s wrong.
Her instincts screamed that she had made the wrong choice. The advantageous position was a trap.
She was already losing, and she didn’t even know how.
Selene’s jaw tightened. She wasn’t going to play a game she was bound to lose.
"Forget this! I need to think of something else."
She murmured.
Instead of making a move, Selene summoned the borrowed power again.
Fire and ice clashed as she struck the statues. The first one shattered into pieces. The force sent vibrations across the board.
[Warning: Incorrect action detected.]
Selene froze for a moment, expecting a penalty. But no notification followed.
"Huh?"
There was no punishment. Nothing happened.
Realizing that her actions were still within acceptable limits, Selene didn’t hesitate. The system was much more lenient in terms of what it allowed.
She unleashed more power and destroyed the rest of the statues. Stone cracked and crumbled beneath her attacks.
One by one, the pieces were reduced to rubble.
When the final piece fell, silence filled the room. Selene stood still, waiting for the next challenge.
But nothing happened.
"Did I... clear it?"
Selene scanned the room. No door appeared. No path forward.
Her brow furrowed. Then, beneath her feet, she felt a shift.
Rumble.
The floor began to slide away. Slowly, the ground split open, revealing a staircase leading downward.
Selene peered into the opening. The staircase was shrouded in darkness. It stretched down endlessly, disappearing into a void.
"Well, that’s not ominous at all. I guess I am supposed to follow this staircase downwards? Man, it sure makes me feel as if I am in a horror movie."
She muttered.
Selene summoned the fire again, using the flame to light her way. A small orb of fire hovered in front of her, illuminating the narrow stairway.
She glanced down. The stairs seemed to stretch on forever. The bottom was nowhere in sight.
"Great."
She sighed.
But she didn’t have much choice.
Selene took her first step down. The cool air brushed against her skin, sending a chill through her body.
Her footsteps echoed as she moved deeper. The walls seemed to close in on her. The flames illuminated only a few steps ahead, leaving the rest of the path hidden in darkness.
Minutes passed. Or was it hours?
Selene’s legs began to ache. She had been walking for what felt like an eternity, but the staircase showed no sign of ending.
"How long does this go on?"
She muttered, frustration creeping into her voice.
The silence weighed on her. The further she went, the heavier the air felt.
It was as if the darkness was pressing down on her, trying to swallow her whole.
Selene’s mind wandered as she walked. The memory of the core flashed through her mind. The strange, glowing eye that had spoken to her in her dream.
"Find me so that we may become one."
Her hand twitched as if remembering the sensation of touching the core. The intense heat, the sharp prick, and the strange power that had surged through her body.
"Was that real? Ugh, I feel like I am walking into a well laid out trap."
She whispered.
Her instincts told her it wasn’t just a dream. Something had changed in her. She could feel it.
Selene’s grip tightened around the flame.
"I’ll deal with it later. My first objective is to clear out this dungeon." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
She muttered.
For now, she had to focus on getting out of this place.
The stairway stretched on. Each step echoed into the void. For a second, it felt like this place would never end.
It was a terrifying thought to die in a dungeon like this, but it was not unheard of....
"Don’t be a fool, Selene. Things will be just fine. You just need to keep going..."
