Chapter 219: Ch 219: Now, tell me the truth- Part 2
’We cannot stay here for long. I should start moving now.’
Selene’s patience was wearing thin.
"Follow me to the bathroom in a minute,"
Selene instructed Heera in a low voice, her eyes scanning the restaurant for any signs of trouble. She couldn’t afford to let anyone notice them leaving together.
"We’ll start implementing the plan to keep you safe."
Heera’s eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"Why the bathroom? Shouldn’t we sign the contract first? I don’t feel comfortable proceeding without—"
She asked, her tone hesitant.
Selene cut her off with a sharp look.
"If you want us to protect you, you’ll have to trust me. There’s no time for contracts right now. We need to move."
She said, her voice cold and unyielding.
Heera bit her lip, her expression conflicted. Selene could see the wheels turning in her head as she weighed her options.
Finally, with a reluctant sigh, Heera gave a small nod.
"Fine! I’ll do as you say."
she muttered, her pride clearly taking a hit.
Selene’s shoulders relaxed just a little.
Good.
"Wait a minute after I leave."
Selene instructed before turning on her heel and walking toward the washroom. She kept her pace steady, her expression neutral, blending in with the other patrons as she moved.
Once inside, Selene leaned against the sink, arms crossed, and waited.
Minutes passed.
One minute. Two. Three.
By the fifth minute, Selene’s patience was running out.
’Where the hell is she
Selene’s jaw clenched as frustration bubbled beneath the surface.
A pang of disappointment hit her chest, though she quickly shoved it aside.
She shouldn’t have expected anything different.
Heera had been acting suspicious from the start, and Selene had taken a risk by trusting her this far.
With a sigh, Selene pushed off the sink and moved to open the door, prepared to head back to the table—
Only to freeze when she saw Heera standing on the other side, fidgeting nervously.
"Uh...I... I was just about to come in."
Heera’s eyes widened in surprise when the door swung open.
Selene raised an eyebrow, unimpressed.
"You’re five minutes late."
Heera’s cheeks flushed slightly as she looked down.
"I was... gathering my courage."
Selene didn’t buy it, but there was no time to argue. She grabbed Heera’s arm and yanked her inside before anyone could notice.
"Okay. Let’s do this."
Selene said, locking the door behind them.
She reached into her bag and pulled out a bundle of clothes, along with a small makeup kit.
Heera stared at the items with obvious confusion.
"What’s this?"
"Your disguisE."
Selene replied flatly, holding out the clothes.
Heera blinked, her nose wrinkling as she took a closer look. The clothes were plain, worn, and several grades below the designer outfits Heera was used to.
"You want me to wear... this?"
Selene’s patience was hanging by a thread.
"If you want to stay alive, yes."
Heera’s expression was a mixture of disbelief and disdain.
"These clothes look... cheap."
she murmured, her lips curling slightly in distaste.
Selene’s eye twitched.
"That’s the point, Heera."
"But they’re so—"
"Low-quality? Uncomfortable? Welcome to life outside your luxury bubble."
Selene interrupted, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Heera’s mouth opened as if to argue, but one sharp glare from Selene made her think twice.
"Look. You need to blend in. Right now, anyone who looks at you knows exactly who you are. If the Vales have people watching, they’ll be on you before you can blink. So unless you want to be a sitting target, put these on and quit complaining."
Selene said, her voice softer but still firm.
Heera’s lips pressed into a thin line, but she didn’t argue this time. Instead, she reluctantly grabbed the clothes and moved to the corner of the bathroom to change.
Selene leaned against the sink, arms crossed, watching the door while Heera changed.
Minutes passed in silence, broken only by Heera’s occasional grumbling.
"This fabric is so scratchy..."
Selene rolled her eyes.
"Why does this shirt smell weird?"
Selene clenched her jaw.
"Do people actually wear this stuff?"
’That’s it.’
"Would you rather be dead?"
Selene snapped, finally losing her patience.
Heera fell silent.
"Exactly."
Selene muttered, shaking her head.
A few minutes later, Heera emerged, her expression a mix of discomfort and embarrassment.
Heera tugged at the collar of the shirt.
"This is... awful."
She muttered under her breath.
Selene arched an eyebrow.
"You’ll live." freewēbnoveℓ.com
"Barely."
Heera mumbled, but at least she didn’t complain any further.
Selene pulled out the small makeup kit next and gestured for Heera to sit on the counter.
"Sit. I need to change your look."
Heera obeyed, though her expression showed she wasn’t thrilled about it.
"Why do I feel like I’m being punished?"
Heera mumbled as Selene applied a light layer of concealer.
"Because you’re used to having everything handed to you," Selene replied without missing a beat.
Heera blinked at her reflection, clearly surprised by how different she looked.
"This...I don’t even recognize myself."
She trailed off, her tone quieter now.
"That’s the point."
Selene said, her voice softer this time.
Heera met Selene’s eyes in the mirror, and for a moment, her usual arrogance faded.
"Do you think this will work?" Heera murmured in an annoyed voice as she looked at herself.
"It should....if you behave your part right." Selene said, stepping back and giving Heera a once-over.
It wasn’t perfect, but it would do.
"Now, we need to get out of here without drawing attention."
Selene said, her tone all business again.
Heera nodded, her expression more serious now.
Selene opened the bathroom door just a crack, scanning the restaurant. No immediate threats.
"Stay close. And don’t speak unless absolutely necessary."
Selene murmured, her voice low.
Heera nodded again, her earlier attitude finally replaced by quiet determination.
As they slipped out of the bathroom and re-entered the restaurant, Selene’s mind was already working a mile a minute.
Step one, complete.
But this was only the beginning.
The Vales wouldn’t let Heera slip through their fingers so easily.
And Selene knew that the real danger was just beginning.
