Chapter 244: Ch 243: The Lab- Part 3

Selene’s wrists throbbed as she struggled against her binds.

Her breathing was uneven, her muscles strained, but no matter how much she fought, the ropes refused to budge.

The rough texture bit into her skin, leaving raw marks, but Selene didn’t stop.

’No... I can’t go back to the family. The doctor will never let me leave if he gets his claws into me.’

She kicked and squirmed, but the grip of her captor remained unyielding.

"Stop struggling, girl. You’re only wasting your energy. It will be better if you take a deep breath now."

Madam Verta’s smooth, mocking voice echoed beside her.

Selene glared at her.

"I’d rather die than let you drag me into hell’s pit. Let go of me right now. And you should run as well. Do you think you are safe in here?"

She hissed, her voice full of venom.

Madam Verta chuckled softly.

"Oh, don’t be so dramatic. You’ll live... for now."

Selene’s heart pounded in her chest as the familiar, sinister building loomed ahead.

’No...’

Her blood ran cold as she recognized the place.

’Doctor Aedric’s lab.’

Her breathing quickened, her eyes darting around frantically.

’I have to get out...’

But before she could think of another plan, her captor dragged her inside.

The air was heavy.

The stench of chemicals burned her nose.

Her stomach churned as flashes of her past life hit her all at once—

The cold metal tables.

The screams.

The endless pain.

Selene clenched her jaw, forcing her mind back to the present.

She couldn’t afford to break down now.

And then—

"Ahhh..."

A chilling voice echoed through the dimly lit room.

Selene’s body went rigid.

Him.

Doctor Aedric stepped out of the shadows, his thin frame barely filling his oversized lab coat.

His beady eyes gleamed with excitement as they landed on Selene.

"Selene..."

He murmured, a twisted smile curling on his lips.

Selene’s stomach twisted in disgust.

"Still as beautiful as ever. But I see that you’ve gotten festy why I was not looking."

He chuckled, walking closer.

Selene’s muscles tensed.

"Put her on the table."

Aedric ordered, barely sparing Madam Verta’s partner a glance.

The man dumped Selene onto the cold, metal surface.

Selene winced as the chill seeped through her clothes, sending a shiver down her spine.

’No. No. No.’

Panic clawed at her chest, but she fought to stay calm.

’Think, Selene.’

She had to get out of here.

Now.

Her eyes flickered to Aedric.

’Distract him.’

"Get your filthy hands off me!"

She lashed out, aiming a kick at his face.

But—

Aedric didn’t even flinch.

Her foot barely grazed his arm.

"Tsk, tsk..."

He shook his head, his smile never wavering.

"Such spirit. Don’t worry, Selene. Everything will be... better... when you wake up."

He murmured, his eyes gleaming with amusement.

Selene’s heart pounded violently in her chest.

’Wake up?’

"Don’t—"

But before she could finish—

Stab.

Aedric jabbed a syringe into her neck.

Selene’s body went rigid.

A cold, numbing sensation spread through her veins.

’No...’

Her vision blurred.

Her limbs grew heavy.

’No, no, no!’

She fought to move.

To speak.

To do anything.

But her body betrayed her.

Her consciousness began to slip.

’Damn it...’

The last thing she saw was Aedric’s smug grin.

"Sleep tight, Selene."

Madam Verta watched from the sidelines, her arms crossed.

"Will she be trouble later?"

She asked, her tone carefully neutral.

Doctor Aedric didn’t even look up.

"She’ll be useful."

He said, his voice filled with sick excitement.

Verta’s eyes narrowed.

"What do you mean?"

Aedric glanced at her, his smile widening.

"I’ll put her to good use."

His tone sent a chill down Verta’s spine.

"And..."

His eyes gleamed as he turned back to Selene’s unconscious body.

"Bring me more test subjects. I’ll pay double for ones like her."

Verta’s expression hardened.

"Absolutely not."

Aedric raised an eyebrow.

"Our deal is over, Doctor. I’ve done my part. I’m done."

Verta said firmly.

Aedric’s grin didn’t fade.

"Done?"

Verta nodded, her jaw clenched.

"I’ll follow my destiny, as the system foretold."

She said, her voice steady.

For a moment, Aedric was silent.

And then—

He chuckled softly.

"Oh, Verta..."

The sound sent a chill through her.

"You think you can just... walk away?"

Verta’s instincts screamed at her.

She took a step back, her muscles tensing.

But—

"I’m very interested in your power,"

Aedric murmured, his eyes gleaming.

"And now that the Vale family isn’t protecting you..."

Verta’s heart skipped a beat.

"I can finally see what’s inside that head of yours."

Her blood ran cold.

No.

"Don’t you dare—"

"Grab her."

Aedric ordered casually.

Verta’s partner stepped forward.

"Wait, what are you—"

CRACK.

Pain exploded in her skull.

Her vision blurred as her knees buckled.

She hit the ground hard.

"Traitor..."

She whispered, her voice barely above a whisper.

Her partner stood over her, his expression void of emotion.

’Damn it...’

Her body refused to move.

Her limbs felt like lead.

"You..."

Aedric crouched beside her, his smile full of wicked delight.

"Thank you, Verta."

He murmured.

"For your... contribution."

Verta’s vision dimmed.

But she heard his laughter echoing in her ears.

Selene’s mind was trapped.

Floating.

Drifting between reality and oblivion.

’Move...’

Her body didn’t respond.

’Come on...’

She was aware—

Barely.

A distant, hazy awareness.

Her senses were dull.

But she felt it.

Pain.

Desperation.

And—

A flicker of something else.

No...

Her vision swam.

But through the haze—

She saw it.

Verta...

Lying motionless.

Aedric standing over her.

And Selene—

’I have to...

MOVE.’

But her body refused.

Her mind screamed, but her limbs remained heavy.

’Damn it!’

She was stuck.

Trapped.

’No...’

Aedric’s laughter echoed in her ears.

Selene’s pulse pounded louder.

’I can’t...

I won’t...’

And then—

A spark.

Faint.

Distant.

But growing.

’I won’t let this happen.’

Her core stirred.

The foreign energy inside her pulsed.

Stronger.

Louder.

Selene’s eyes fluttered.

’Move...’

A faint glow shimmered beneath her skin.

’I won’t let him win.’

Her mind sharpened.

’Wake up.’

Her fingers twitched.

The spark grew stronger.
