Done, Neraxis thought in satisfaction.

He wasn't sure how he measured up by this world's standards, but if he was killing supposedly powerful monsters, he figured he was doing fine.

Even so, he turned to Evangeline, who, after a few minutes, finally finished adjusting her stats as well.

"Did you put yours into stamina as well?" Neraxis asked.

She shook her head as a mischievous smile spread across her face. "Mana Capacity. The more mana I have, the stronger I can be."

His brows twitched. "And if you get hit?"

"Then I just won't get hit," Evangeline replied with a shrug. "Not too hard to do when you have the experience for it. After all, not only am I... old... I also fought a copy of myself an hour ago. I'm plenty ready."

"Old, huh?" Neraxis commented, which earned him a glare from Evangeline.

"I'm old, but not that old. By your standards, I'm only 23 or so. I'm still young," she added with a pout.

Neraxis raised a brow. "23,000?"

"Ugh..." Neraxis recoiled back, enduring the pain of his abdomen being struck. "Come on... I was only joking."

"You know... on the topic of age, aren't you millions of years old?" Evangeline asked, wiping away the smug look off her face. "Not that I want to bring back any bad memories, but from what I saw... you went through your former memories before entering the Astral Tower, right? I can't tell how many there are in total... but there are a lot."

"You're not exactly wrong... but I don't remember most of them," Neraxis replied with a shrug, but upon noticing that she wasn't convinced, he simply let out a sigh. "Fine... I'm older. Are you happy?"

"Yep." Evangeline giggled and stepped forward. "We're ready, yeah?"

Neraxis stared at her back for a few moments before nodding. "We are."

With that, they began walking forward. Jane trailed close behind, seemingly disinterested in their not-so-subtle flirting. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Nonetheless, not many monsters were present, which was a bit worrying considering the terrain was starting to even out.

That also meant they were no longer descending.

"So uhh... is that temple really here? I don't see how anyone could live here," Neraxis asked flatly.

"It wasn't always a chasm," Jane remarked. "It used to be a city in the skies. It was very pleasant to the eyes, and the strongest people lived there. But once again, they fell, a chasm formed, and the rest is history."

"Right..." Neraxis sighed. "I guess that's that then. We'll try to clear it somehow."

"Yep, and when we do, you'll show us to an obelisk, right?" Evangeline chimed in. "With those teleportation powers of yours, you can get us out easily. I'm sure of it."

"You want to get out through an obelisk...?" Jane tilted her head. "I suppose that's possible. I don't mind helping you if you help me."

"Naturally." Evangeline smirked, glancing at Neraxis. "See? You should've asked that earlier."

Neraxis rolled his eyes at her antics and took the lead ahead.

The path was gradually becoming clearer, and the darkness no longer enveloped them. It was almost like a ray of moonlight shined through the skies, which seemed a bit strange considering they were deep underground by now.

But yet, the light was definitely unmistakable.

A few trees were illuminated, and even a couple of dozen ruined structures. It was clear these were the ruins of some kind of city. Even so, since Jane wasn't reacting, that meant this wasn't exactly the city they were looking for.

"So how far are we from the temple?" Evangeline asked. "And don't say we're not close."

"We're not close," Jane replied flatly. "We just entered The Chasm. Don't expect this to be so easy. The monsters are going to grow much stronger, and you two will face even more difficulty than you can imagine."

She turned to Neraxis and flashed a puzzled look.

"You know... I overlooked it earlier since I thought you were just trying to mingle with the girl here. But why are you so weak? You reversed time when we were together before. And now you're struggling to kill a monster? That's not like you."

"I might be the same person as last time, but due to certain circumstances which even I don't know about, I can't exactly use my powers here," Neraxis replied. "But if you're so curious, why don't you bless me with your powers? That might awaken a skill for me or something."

She seemed like a very important being, and if she had the powers of revival and teleportation, then it was highly likely she could also grant him something minor like that.

After all, even Neraxis himself could grant his powers to others by turning them into vampires. Why couldn't she do the same?

Still... Neraxis looked at her reluctant expression. It doesn't look like I was convincing enough...

"Why don't I bless you instead?" Evangeline offered, puffing her chest. "I'm a vampire here, and unlike you, my race is set to vampire, not my class. I can turn you into a vampire, and that might actually change something for you. So, what do you say?"

"No." Jane immediately cut both of them off. "No one's being turned into a vampire here. No blessings either. Limit your mana usage especially."

"Or a bad evil being will gobble us up?" Evangeline added teasingly. "Look, all I want to do is give him my blood. It shouldn't cause much of a stir."

Jane stared back at her for a few moments before letting out a sigh.

"Fine. I'll show you what I mean."

With those words, she extended her hand, summoning a faint golden flame.

And to Neraxis's and Evangeline's surprise, some kind of shadowy insect-like beings appeared, immediately eating the fire, causing it to fully dissipate.

"Now if you were to turn his body into a vampire, he'd have an influx of mana. Because of that, he'd turn into food. Understand?" Jane explained, causing both of them to gulp in unison.

"Y-Yeah... maybe we hold off on that for a bit? Or maybe go back and do it?" Evangeline said. "The way we came from is still... it's gone?"

"No way out until we clear this," Jane added. "Get comfortable."

Neraxis let out a sigh as he watched the two women begin to bicker.

This is not sketchy... not sketchy at all...
