The SSS Ranked Villain's Return-Chapter 329: Entering The Bone City
It didn't take them long to enter the bone city. After all, they had already been right in front of it. However, the melody that had reached their ears was way too pleasant to ignore.
Yet the moment Neraxis halted to take in the sound, Jane whacked him over the head with a pillow she had brought.
"No falling for the enchantment. I told you already," Jane said flatly. "You too, woman. You've been twitching ever since earlier. I appreciate that you're trying to resist, but it's a bit creepy."
"She's aroused," Neraxis pointed with a shrug. "I'm guessing the melody reflects what we want to feel. I'm feeling attraction, and she's... well, you know."
He turned to Jane. "But what about you? What do you feel when you hear the melody?"
She looked on in silence before letting out a sigh.
"I can't hear the melody. But I know it's there. I guess you could say I feel it?"
"Right..." Neraxis rolled his eyes at her dismissal and returned his gaze toward the dead streets ahead.
Each house was made out of bones, and even the streets were paved in some sort of bone-like dust. It felt strange to walk on, but what was even more strange was the fact that the melody seemed to travel through the bones.
Almost like it was targeting them, which it likely was.
He wouldn't know since the person beside him was hiding everything from him.
Though I can't say I like how quiet it is... Where are all the monsters?
The moment he had those thoughts, Jane suddenly grabbed the back of his shirt and yanked him backward.
He was about to lash out at her in annoyance, but when he noticed a fiery arrow zip past him and impact the nearby wall, he shut up immediately.
"There are skeleton archers everywhere. You should be careful moving forward," Jane said, but upon seeing their unconvinced gazes, she continued. "Fine. We entered the inner part of the city. The church where the melody is coming from shouldn't be far. We might be able to destroy it. However, the skeletons will guard it tightly as they are doing now."
"Thanks for the heads-up, small tits," Evangeline said teasingly, then turned to Neraxis. "We're going to make a run for it. Okay?"
"Uhh... you sure?" Neraxis asked, startled. "You do know one arrow will probably kill us, right?"
A soft smile appeared on Evangeline's face. "But that's the fun of it, isn't it?"
"Not really," Neraxis replied, but before he could dissuade her, Evangeline suddenly grabbed him by the hand and dragged him out in the open.
Immediately, a faint zipping sound echoed in the distance. Just as he thought the arrow would hit, he leaned down, holding both of Evangeline's hands as their bodies leaned into each other.
The arrow flew past her back and embedded itself into a wall.
"Ohhh... a dance. We never danced together, did we?" Evangeline remarked with a cheeky grin as she turned her head sideways, avoiding yet another arrow that flew right in between them.
Neraxis was stunned at her recklessness, and without even replying, he stood upright and swiftly dragged her behind cover.
"What are you doing?" Neraxis asked with a frown. "That was really dangerous. You nearly got yourself killed."
"Nah, it wasn't dangerous at all," Evangeline replied. "I knew you were going to save me if I was about to get hurt. Am I wrong?"
"...You're—"
His words were cut off as two arrows suddenly flew straight at their heads.
And just as they were about to hit, Neraxis leaned in, and so did Evangeline. Their faces were so close to one another that he could feel her warm breaths on his lips.
It felt arousing, yet just as she closed her eyes and puckered her lips, Neraxis grabbed her and tossed her over his shoulder before running out the other end of the alley.
"H-Hey... our dance..." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"The dance can wait, Evangeline," Neraxis replied with a sigh, dodging incoming arrows as he neared the source of the melody.
In the distance, there was a tall bone spire, and it was in the shape of a cross. If he had to guess, that was where the church was.
"Put me down already," Evangeline said, squirming on his shoulder, but still unable to escape his grasp.
His stats were higher than hers in this world, so he was able to easily overpower her, making sure she didn't do anything stupid.
Finally, after a couple more minutes, he arrived in front of the bone church, though he could already tell something was off.
The skeletons had stopped attacking a few streets ago, making him wonder if they had ever existed at all.
After all, no matter how many arrows flew at him, he didn't see even a single skeleton.
Nonetheless, while he was pondering that, he gently set Evangeline down on the ground.
She pouted. "I won't cuddle with you for three nights now... No... maybe two."
Neraxis rolled his eyes as he reached for her head, patting it. "We'll get home by tomorrow most likely. So make it only one day, okay? After all, after I'm out, I'll have to finally deal with the Eternal Sin."
"Oh right..." Evangeline facepalmed. "I did see that he was lingering around in your memories. You were learning how to defeat him, right? Is that why you had to see your past memories?"
"Hmm... I guess you could say that." Neraxis nodded and began walking toward the bone church, Evangeline trailing close behind.
"I was kind of forced into watching them all. But I can't say I didn't learn anything," Neraxis replied as a slight smirk formed on his face. "He loves drama, but he also has ties to his past. If I can exploit the ties during our confrontation, then I'll win."
Evangeline remained silent for a few moments before grabbing his hand, causing him to turn and face her.
She had a worried expression, a stark contrast to the playful grin she had moments ago.
"But... how will you react when he does the same?"
