The SSS Ranked Villain's Return-Chapter 343: Going Back
"I doubt that," Evangeline chimed in. "Everyone has weaknesses. Even the most perfect beings, such as angels, have weaknesses. If you clip their pigeon wings, they become helpless children trying to fight."
"Does it look like I'm a puny being such as an angel?" Lagus asked with a chuckle. "Angels and demons are nourishment to me. They're pretty weak creatures, with the strongest being a Primordial. Though, I can't say I know much about the Archangels. Those pesky birds don't show themselves even to the higher beings."
"Right. Then what are you?" Neraxis asked. "You're clearly not human."
"Wow. What a hard thing to figure out, isn't it?" Lagus tilted his head. "For your information, I've grown tired of having this chat with you two. So prepare yourselves. I will be attacking now."
The moment his words fell, Neraxis dashed backward, and so did Evangeline.
The two immediately summoned several pairs of shields around themselves. And as for Neraxis, he tried something.
He saw there was a light source at the very top of whatever place they were currently in. So even if they were underground, maybe, just maybe, he could exploit the HP regeneration.
So that was exactly what he tried doing. He extended his blood into the air and formed a sort of thin barrier that acted as a mirror.
He refracted the little bits of sunlight off the mirror, directing them straight at his forehead.
And to his surprise...
[HP +500! 2,430/8,750]
[HP +500! 2,930/8,750]
[HP +500! 3,430/8,750]
Each second, he was regaining 500 HP, which was extremely overpowered. Because of that, Neraxis was able to tap into a bit more of his blood manipulation powers.
He could make constructs, but most importantly, he could utilize the sun, which just so happened to be real.
Neraxis brought little bits of his blood into the sky, then directed the sunlight toward each one of them. Bit by bit, the blood began boiling, and only then did he throw the blood at Lagus.
Just as the boiling blood was about to reach Lagus, he vanished.
In the very next moment, Neraxis heard a groan from his side, and when he turned toward it, he saw Evangeline being sent hurling toward the ground.
He frowned, trying to react by pushing his sword upward. However, Lagus simply grabbed the tip of his sword and proceeded to simply shatter it again.
<Ancient Holy Arksteel Sword (Legendary) has been broken!>
<Anomaly detected!>
<Durability: Infinite>
<Restoring: Ancient Holy Arksteel Sword (Legendary)>
[Back off a bit, I think I know how to deal with him,] Evangeline said, and since he had no choice but to back off, that was what Neraxis did.
However, it seemed like Lagus wouldn't just let him go, since with a mere thrust of his arm, he grabbed Neraxis's wrist.
Neraxis tried sending blood out to combust around his wrist, possibly take Lagus's arm alongside his own.
Yet as the blood traveled through his veins, a cold sensation suddenly enveloped him.
It was almost as if he had lost connection to his own hand, causing it to go completely limp.
But just as he was about to cut off his own arm and retreat, Evangeline did it for him.
She summoned her sword, and to Neraxis's surprise, she sent out a vertical slash.
He knew for a fact that she hated vertical slashes. It was the main reason why none of her skills even contained any.
However, he never understood why she avoided them.
But as the invisible arc traveled toward him, cleanly cut off his hand, then proceeded to carve into Lagus's flesh, he realized what might've been the case.
She didn't like vertical slashes because they made her too overpowered.
In the end, it was only a theory. Neraxis truly had no idea.
Nonetheless, he snapped out of his stupor and stepped back, arriving right beside Evangeline.
"Are you okay?" she asked, glancing at his arm, which slowly began to regenerate.
"Mhm... just a scratch, don't worry," Neraxis replied with a chuckle. "So what's that plan you came up with?"
She nodded and spoke inside his mind. [There's no plan, I was just trying to make him think there was one. I honestly have no idea how to kill this thing.]
Neraxis sighed. Figured... Run?
[Yep.]
With that, Neraxis dashed away, making sure to gesture Jane to follow as well.
Evangeline followed along too, glancing back at Lagus from time to time.
It seemed like he wasn't chasing them, but even so, Neraxis felt a bit off about running away.
But what choice did he really have? If he stayed, then he'd simply be overpowered.
Without his main body here, Neraxis couldn't do anything.
Yet that same thought lingered in his mind the farther away he ran, until finally, he halted.
"What are you doing?" Evangeline asked with a slight frown. "You're not thinking of going back, are you?"
"Sort of..." Neraxis replied flatly. "I think now's as good of a time to find out his weakness as ever. Plus... if I do die, Jane can revive me, right?"
Jane's brows furrowed. "I'd rather not waste my revival when we can just run away."
"I know, but this is very important to me," Neraxis stated. "That guy is someone I will have to deal with very soon. If I can find out a weakness or two, I'll be able to actually stand a chance against him."
"Neraxis..." Evangeline sighed. "You're being reckless again, you know that?"
"Yes, and I'm serious about this. You two go on ahead. I'll try to extract some information from him," Neraxis replied sternly.
"Go on ahead...? So you don't want us to revive you then?" Jane asked, puzzled. "Do you have a screw loose?"
"You won't have to revive me. I'll make sure of that," Neraxis said and began taking slow steps back to Lagus.
Evangeline tried to follow him; however, he merely waved his hand, causing a small blood fence to appear.
He looked at her, his face set with determination.
"I want to do this alone."
